EarthBound Beginnings Remake

EarthBound Beginnings is rom hack that remakes EarthBound Beginnings (NES) within the EarthBound engine. In this what-if scenario, the EBBR team mimics what the actual developers would have done if it was remade on the SNES.

This labor of love was created by over 30 developers and has been in the works, in one form or another, for nineteen years. In August 2021, a community effort to gather and archive all maps, sprites, music, and other assets created over the past decade for the project led Gabbi to start her own iteration. This new development started in December 5th, 2021 and with the help of the entire EBBR team the 1.0 version was released on June 14th 2026.

This prequel story to Earthbound revolves around Ninten, a 12-year-old boy who journeys around the world using his psychic powers to collect eight melodies in order to save the planet from an evil race of mind-controlling aliens.

This remake features numerous conveniences that make it a smoother game to play today. Including:

• Modernized UI with less restrictive inventory management

• No random encounters and lower encounter rate

• Dedicated run button

• Newly arranged soundtrack using the SNES sound chip

• Visual upgrades through Earthbound's engine and newly created sprites
