101 Starships

Overview

101 Starships is a minimalist, retro-styled horizontal shoot 'em up (shmup) originally developed by indie creator Zoglu. Built with an arcade-focused mindset, the game strips the space-shooter genre down to its purest, most challenging elements, delivering fast-paced action perfectly tailored for pocket-sized retro handhelds like the Gamebuino and Arduboy. Players pilot a lone starship on the left side of the screen, facing down a relentless, scrolling onslaught of enemy vessels advancing from the right. The core objective is simple: survive as long as possible, blast everything in sight, and rack up the highest score possible. True to its name, the game challenges players to survive waves of diverse enemy starship configurations, requiring quick reflexes and pattern recognition to weave through incoming fire and hazards. Featuring a striking, high-contrast monochrome aesthetic, the game utilizes crisp 1-bit pixel art to display your ship, a scrolling starfield, and distinct pixelated enemy silhouettes against a stark black background. Designed with classic arcade DNA, the interface prominently displays a high score tracker at the bottom of the screen, constantly pushing players to practice, adapt, and beat their personal best runs.
