Overview
Lonestar is a strategy game set in a science-fiction universe where the members of the Bounty Hunter Association track down a galactic roster of fugitives and dangerous felons. Conflicts within this universe operate under strict regulations that forbid surprise attacks, requiring all disputes to be resolved through formal, head-to-head duels. Between assignments, hunters take legally mandated time off to rest and interact with different factions across the galaxy.
Combat occurs on a top-down 2D grid divided into multiple horizontal lanes. During a round, players receive energy resources with specific numerical values and colors. These are slotted into the spaceship's equipped units to generate power. Once the round ends, a shockwave triggers, comparing the power values across the lanes; the ship with less power in a given lane takes damage.
Outside of battles, players customize their ship by acquiring new offensive and defensive units, as well as artifacts with passive functions. A full run spans twelve battles divided into three stages, culminating in boss fights. Players can select spaceships with various specialties and choose from a roster of pilots possessing exclusive skills and randomized talent pools. Between fights, text-based vacation events provide choices that allow players to gain resources, upgrade ship modules, or modify the current run's conditions.
