Final Fantasy IV: Ultima Plus

Ultima(noun): from the Latin adjective “Ultimus” (“farthest or last”).

Only this word befits the version of Final Fantasy IV that has reached the pinnacle of ROM hacking. For players, “Last” will mean Final Fantasy IV - Ultima is the last version they’ll ever want to experience, while the Developer Team seems to have ignored the game’s titular “Final.” After over a year with no updates, the team responsible for FFIV - Ultima Team is excited to announce the launch of a brand-new edition.

Final Fantasy IV - Ultima Plus!

For the modifications in this version, the original Dev Team went back to the game’s core foundation to incorporate feedback from Ultima’s fanbase—almost 60,000 and counting! Players can still expect to find the equipment, bosses, and dungeons they love, with a host of new features designed to further hone and enhance the experience.

Final Fantasy IV - Ultima Plus includes:

• A fully revised script from start to finish by FlamePurge, the author of the original Project II. The core story remains the same but with improved, richer dialogue that drives character interaction.

• Does the team lean more toward melee or magic? Ultima Plus’ new custom battle formations allow you to place all 5 characters in the front row, back row, or any combination.

• Edward now retains his equipment upon dismissal from the party! No longer must players store his equipment or sell off his early gear

• For those who love to “fast menu,” Ultima Plus incorporates both L/R switching in the Equip/Status Menus, and continuous uses of items/spells from the inventory. (i.e., Each use of an item/spell won’t return to the previous screen. A hugely requested feature!)

• Ever wanted to tackle the game’s most difficult content without the aid of Ultima’s New Game+ mode? There’s now a “Reduced Difficulty” mode when players begin a new game where many monsters have reduced HP and speed, allowing for even the most casual of players to experience the complete game in a single run.

• Think you’re the best of the best? Prove it by showing off the game’s final score upon completion. This score reflects total time, number of chests opened, how much of the bestiary was completed, percentage of the Boss Rush cleared, and the difficulty played (Standard or Reduced).

• Interested in custom sprite work developed by the Ultima community? Try one of the many custom character graphic projects.

• All items and elements now have unique icons which makes the menu feel more robust.
