BioHazard: Gun Survivor

Overview

BioHazard: Gun Survivor (known internationally as Resident Evil: Survivor) is a first-person light-gun shooter/spin-off of the Resident Evil series. Unlike the main survival horror games, which use a third-person perspective, this title places the player directly behind the character's eyes, combining Resident Evil horror elements with arcade-style shooting mechanics.

The game takes place shortly after the destruction of Raccoon City. You play as Ark Thompson, a man who survives a helicopter crash on Sheena Island, a remote island controlled by the Umbrella Corporation.

After the crash:

Ark suffers from amnesia.

The island is overrun with zombies and biological experiments.

He must uncover the truth about Umbrella's activities while trying to escape.

The story connects directly to the Resident Evil universe and includes familiar elements such as:

Umbrella research facilities

Tyrant experiments

Zombies and mutated creatures

References to characters and events from the main series

Gameplay

Unlike classic Resident Evil games, the focus is on shooting:

First-person perspective

GunCon/light-gun support on PlayStation

Mouse aiming on PC

Real-time aiming and shooting

Exploration through environments similar to traditional Resident Evil games

You still have some survival horror mechanics:

Limited ammunition

Inventory management

Puzzle solving

Exploration

Multiple enemy types

The game uses fixed routes with branching paths, meaning your choices can change which areas you visit and how the story unfolds.

Weapons

The arsenal includes:

Handgun

Shotgun

Magnum

Grenades

Other firearms

Aiming is much faster than traditional Resident Evil combat, making it feel closer to arcade shooters like:

The House of the Dead

Time Crisis

Reception

The game is considered one of the more unusual Resident Evil spin-offs. It received mixed reactions because:

Positive:

Interesting first-person perspective

Good atmosphere and Resident Evil lore

A unique experiment for the franchise

Negative:

Repetitive shooting

Less strategic than classic Resident Evil

Awkward controls outside the GunCon version

It has gained more appreciation over time because it represents an unusual period where Capcom experimented with different genres.
