The Little Mermaid: Co-op Edition

The Little Mermaid, released by Capcom for the NES in 1991, is a single-player game. This hack adds a second playable mermaid, so the whole game can be played cooperatively by two people on one console. A mode where the second mermaid is controlled by the computer is also available, along with a new difficulty setting.

Two-player co-op:

A second mermaid plays from controller port 2. Both mermaids swim, attack, carry shells and open chests independently, sharing the game's original single life bar.

CPU HELPER mode:

The second mermaid is controlled by the computer. She follows the player around, breaks off to chase and shoot at enemies that appear on screen, and works her way around scenery she gets caught behind. She takes damage, but has infinite lives of her own and does not reduce the human player's health.

NORMAL / HARD difficulty:

Hard mode makes every enemy move three times as fast and doubles the lives of every boss. The original game was aimed at all ages, so it is relatively easy, this mode will make it challenging if you play without save states.
