Overview
Tomb Raider: The Times Exclusive Level is a fan-made PlayStation conversion of the standalone Tomb Raider level originally released for Windows in 1999. The original level was developed by Core Design in collaboration with The Times and was built using the Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation engine.
The PlayStation conversion was created by TheBlueFox using the official Tomb Raider IV & V PlayStation development tools and was released publicly on August 3, 2020. The conversion recreates the complete level, including its introductory cutscene, adapting the original PC level to the limitations of the PlayStation hardware.
The level follows Lara Croft as she investigates a newly discovered tomb in Egypt and searches for the long-lost Golden Mask. Gameplay retains the exploration, platforming, puzzle-solving and combat of the original Tomb Raider experience.
Due to the technical limitations of the PlayStation hardware, the conversion contains some differences and minor issues compared with the original PC version, including texture and lighting problems and occasional frame-rate drops. The initial release also had some limitations in its recreated cutscene, which was subsequently updated by TheBlueFox with fixes to camera angles, textures, lighting and missing triggers.
This is an unofficial, non-profit fan project and was not commercially released by Eidos Interactive or Core Design.
