Midway`s Sportsman

The Sportsman arcade machine is a classic electro-mechanical (EM) rifle shooting gallery game produced by Midway Manufacturing Co. in 1970. Unlike the later electronic video games of the late 70s and 80s, this vintage machine relies entirely on physical components, motors, and blacklight illumination to create its gameplay experience.

Players aim a large, cabinet-mounted realistic rifle or pistol assembly at the mechanical targets to rack up points.

Midway was highly regarded for this era of electro-mechanical gallery games, releasing similar classic units around the same period like Sea Raider (1969), S.A.M.I. (1970), and Wild Kingdom (1971). Collectors today value the Sportsman for its complex internal gear-and-switch mechanics and its iconic early 1970s arcade aesthetic.
