La Retata

Overview

La Retata (Italian for "The Raid") is an extremely rare pinball conversion kit. Released in 1992 by the German manufacturer Geiger-Automatenbau GmbH, the kit was designed to transform Williams’ 1986 High Speed pinball machine. Historically significant to enthusiasts, La Retata holds the distinction of being the final pinball conversion kit ever produced by Geiger before the company pivoted its operations exclusively toward producing arcade and amusement game spare parts.

The visuals of the kit are a bizarre, unauthorized pop-culture mashup created by artist Michele "Mike" Martinelli. Shifting the game's theme into an "L.A. Police" crime aesthetic, the custom playfield and mirrored backglass prominently feature artwork heavily borrowed from the iconic Hollywood films Dragnet (1987) and Robocop (1988). Geiger only produced 100 units of this specific kit.
