Final Fantasy VII

The seventh main installment of the Final Fantasy series takes place in a post-industrial fantasy and science-fiction world where advanced technology, magic, monsters, bioengineered creatures, and ancient powers coexist.

The story begins in the city of Midgar, which is controlled by the Shinra Electric Power Company, a powerful corporation responsible for much of the world’s technology and political influence. Shinra’s power is built on Mako energy, a resource extracted from the planet itself. While Mako fuels modern civilization, it is also the lifeblood of the planet, and Shinra’s continued exploitation of it is gradually damaging the natural world.

Like its predecessors, Final Fantasy VII is a Japanese-style role-playing game featuring turn-based battles with a real-time element through the Active Time Battle system. Enemies are usually encountered randomly while exploring hostile areas, and combat is fought by selecting commands such as attacks, magic, items, and special abilities as each character’s time gauge fills. The player recruits multiple characters over the course of the story, usually forming an active party of three. Each character has distinct weapons, statistics, and Limit Breaks, while most magical and command abilities can be reassigned through the Materia system.
