Overview

F.E.A.R. Combat is the multiplayer component of the game F.E.A.R.: First Encounter Assault Recon. It was made available for free download on August 17, 2006. The game is a Monolith Productions development, with a multiplayer designed to hold up to 16 players at one time. It contains several new maps and a 100% multiplayer platform to be played online. F.E.A.R. Combat offers three playable modes: "Deathmatch," "Capture the Flag" and "Last Man Standing." Two more game types, "Control" and "Conquer All," were added in a patch released later in the year. Monolith, Punkbuster, Sierra (Activision) and WBGames eventually ended their support for the game, and the game home page stopped offering new CD keys. The F.E.A.R. Master Server was shut down by GameSpy on December 5, 2012, and, without the master server, the game could no longer start or connect to servers, and was effectively unplayable. Since 2012, a group of F.E.A.R. players and supporters have patched the game to enable the use of an alternate community master server, making the game playable again; players can now create and join servers. The F.E.A.R. community patch has also addressed several bugs and a security vulnerabilities, and they are now able to issue new working CD keys. The F.E.A.R. Combat game and community are hosted at https://fearcombat.org/.
