Overview
Geometry Dash is fast-paced auto-runner where a shape needs to be guided through 2D platform levels, similar to The Impossible Game. The shape moves by itself and the player taps or uses a single button to jump. By keeping it pressed the shape keeps jumping. A single mistake means the entire level has to be restarted. Additional gameplay elements are pads that launch the shape by itself, rings that reverse gravity or mirror the environment, and rings that provide short sequences like in Flappy Bird where the shape needs to be kept in the air with short boosts. There is also a rhythm element of the game as jumps are often tied to the background music.
The game was initially launched with seven levels. Levels have a specific difficulty level such as easy, normal, hard, harder, insane and demon. All of the levels, except for the last two, are unlocked from the start. Completing levels is rewarded with stars and a certain amount is required to unlock the last two levels. Up to three secret coins can also be collected per level, unlocking additional elements in the game, such as different shapes and a large amount of primary and secondary colours. Next to the main game mode each level can be played in a practice mode with checkpoints. Players can use automatic checkpoints or place them themselves.
