Overview

Cyber Diver is a multiplayer-focused first-person shooter released in Japanese arcades. It was developed as a spiritual successor to Half-Life 2: Survivor, running on the same engine and featuring the same team deathmatch gameplay. The story takes place in a world where people known as "Cyber Divers" enter a futuristic virtual reality environment created by the GENESYS Corporation to battle each other for supremacy. The game features a multiplayer mode as well as a "Single Battle" mode where one player can fight against AI-controlled enemies. The multiplayer mode is played by two teams of up to 10 players (5 on each team) with the aim being to deal as much damage to the enemy team as possible using an arsenal of weapons, special abilities, and environmental hazards such as explosive barrels. While players can be killed if they receive too much damage, any damage dealt to a player is also subtracted from their team's overall health. Each round lasts 5 minutes and the team with the most life remaining when the timer reaches zero wins. Matches can be played locally with players in the same arcade or with players in other arcades via Taito's NESYS network. Players can also purchase a NESYS card to record their gameplay stats, view their national ranking, save their personal settings across matches, and more. There are six character classes, or "Jobs", to play as: Psychicer, Ranger, Guardian, Sniper, Medic, and Dummy. Each Job is a character with a unique personality and weapon loadout. The game's arsenal will be familiar to any Half-Life 2: Survivor player, containing submachine guns, shotguns, crossbows, and even the SLAM (a throwable explosive device that can be detonated remotely). Each Job also has a certain amount of health, armor, speed, striking force (the attack power of melee weapons), and shooting power (the damage of projectile or hitscan weapons). The Psychicer, Ranger, Guardian, and Dummy are available by default, while Medic and Sniper can only be unlocked while playing with a NESYS card.
