Overview

Pocket Monsters Advanced Generation: Hiragana Katakana Kakechatta! is an educational Pokémon game for SEGA Pico. It is designed with the purpose of teaching Japanese children to write in both hiragana and katakana. Team Rocket disguise themselves to trick Ash, Brock, May, and Max into catching more Pokémon. Pokémon are caught by correctly drawing Japanese symbols. The player is shown a symbol being drawn, then they must trace the character over a template on the screen using the Pico's pen controller. Pokémon are caught for every five kana.
