Published by: Knowledge Adventure Developed by: Playzone! Ages 3-6 Systems Requirements: Windows 98/95 Pentium 133 or higher Quad-speed CD-ROM 50MB available hard drive 32 MB RAM 16 Bit color graphics capability Mouse 16 bit Windows compatible sound card Da Introduction: ‘Bear in a Big Blue House: Bears Imagine that' is a great CD Rom for stimulating your child's creativity. It's based on Jim Henson's TV show 'Bear in the Big Blue House' and incorporates all the regular characters from the show. It's designed to give many options for kids to choose from and a lot of creative licence can be exercised. Your 'host' thru the software is Ojo the softspoken little bear, who like all the characters, is a friend of Bear. Bear presides over the Big Blue House and it's many playful guests. Ojo chooses to rename herself 'Ojoangelo' for this title as she is pretending that she is a 'great artiste' (say it with a French accent for full effect). The set of the software is an exact reproduction of the TV show set, and different characters are waiting to actively engage your child in various creative activities when you point Ojoangelo into the room where they are waiting. Tutter, the hyperactive little blue mouse, is host to a puppet theatre in the living room. With Tutter directing, kids can act out Fairy Tales, but each one has many twists because they contain characters from the TV show and allow for unique options that are not in any traditional Fairy Tales. Tutter also presides over a hilarious ice cream sundae building activity if you visit the kitchen. Tutter starts you out by catapulting scoops of ice cream from the top of the fridge. Before you can build custom sundaes with the host of traditional and bizarre ingredients (i.e. clams) you have to catch the flying ice cream by moving the sundae dish to the right spot on the opposite counter. Make a wrong move and there's a mess! Upstairs in the house you can direct Ojoangelo to visit Pip & Pop, the purple otter equivalents of the co-stars of the movie ‘Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure'. With Pip & Pop jiving in the shower, kids create custom lyrics for a variety of songs. Pip & Pop then comically perform your child's version of the song complete with comments on your children's lyrical choices. Across the hall from the bathroom, kids can accompany Ojoangelo to drop in on Treelo the lisping lemur. Treelo provides numerous sticker and poster backdrop choices for kids to orient, resize and manipulate in countless combinations. Ojoangelo then displays her most brilliant skills by comprising stories to explain what your child has visually created on the screen. Each of the story graphics can be printed out and colored. Go up one more flight of stairs and discover Bear tinkering away in the attic. Bear gently puts your child to work at a workbench covered in various odds and ends with some building suggestions. Ojoangelo has a similar workstation with the same supplies right next to your child. Your child can creatively piece things together and at anytime peek over Ojoangelo's shoulder to see what she has built with the same materials. This is a very stimulating exercise for young kids; our 4 year old can't get enough of it! The activities allow your child to meet all the house's occupants and the experience is playful and encouraging. The software provides in-depth character development and moves easily from one set to the next. The choices provided are refreshingly unique replete with unexpected twists that pleasantly surprise parents and kids. Da Graphics: The graphics come through as clear as watching the show on TV, unless a character is moving quickly whereupon the images become slightly blurred. There's a great mix of colour and creative combinations of real life household items, like furniture mixed together with the animated puppets and props. It provides a unique blend of a children's world with a grown up feel to it. Da Sound: The voices of the characters are always lively and expressive. The sound plays clearly and generally matches up quite well with the mouth movements of the characters. Sometimes the movement of the characters and the sound doesn't completely harmonize. Da Gameplay: Movement between sets is easy. Arrows show up in appropriate spots and make transitions from one room to another rapid and clean. It really feels like walking through a house, entering different rooms and meeting different characters! The play is very similar to the TV show. Da Conclusion: The game does just what the cover says 'enhances creativity'. It stimulates imagination, urges kids to 'think outside the box' and always remains fun and upbeat. It has no sense of winning or losing but rather cultivates a strong sense of adventurous wandering, discovering and learning while you play. The variety of activities and numerous choices within each activity ensures that this CD Rom won't ever stay long on the shelf to gather dust. It's a keeper!
