Overview
Defenders of Ardania is a tower defense game set in a fantasy setting. The plot premise is quickly presented: the player's kingdom is under attack and must defend itself.
The basic gameplay mechanic follows the genre standard: enemies blindly attack in waves and are fended off by towers which the player previously built. However, in this variant, the player also attacks the opponent: the player's resources can also be used to build troops. These resources refill automatically and whenever an enemy unit/tower is destroyed, but this is greatly accelerated when certain key areas on the map are in the player's possession. While the player can't control the units directly (they automatically choose the shortest way to the enemy base), one rally point (basically a waypoint) and an unlimited amount of bounties (marks a single unit/tower as priority to destroy) can be issued at a time.
Alternatively, the resources can be used to cast spells which either directly target enemy units or positively influence the own. Each race has eight towers and eight units to choose from. Towers can be upgraded twice by using resources, and unit classes automatically upgrade when they receive enough experience. When a class has been upgraded enough, one hero unit of this class can be purchased at a time. It costs more resources, but is stronger and has a special ability.
