It is partially based on Samurai Shodown 2: Haohmaru Jigokuhen for the Neo Geo, with the music being remade from that game. The character select and in-game portraits are taken from the game as well, except for Heishiro, whose portrait is from the Soul Edge Genesis pirate. A total of eight characters are playable: Haohmaru, Nicotine, Genjuro, Hanzo, Ukyo, Jubei, Cham-Cham as well as Heishiro from Soul Edge, who is referred as "Hei" in-game.
