After the Proxima War was won in the far reaches of space, Federation members have now gone back to their planets to defend them. You planet is now under attack from the enemy after they used nuclear photons to break through the Quasar Defence System. In your Taranula C1 Patrol Ship, you must fly over the surface of your planet and destroy the enemy crafts. The game is viewed from a 3rd person perspective behind your craft flying into the screen. You are able to move left or right and blast the various waves of enemy with your gun. If you touch an enemy craft then you lose one of four lives.

Galaxions is inspired by the arcade game Galaxian where you control a spacecraft at the bottom of the screen moving left or right, blasting aliens above. The aliens fly onto the screen in various waves firing their lasers at you before sitting in formation, and once all the aliens are in formation, various aliens will swoop down firing their lasers. If you touch an alien or its laser then you lose one of four lives and once all the aliens are destroyed then you move to the next level.

Galaxions is based on the arcade game Galaxian where you control a spacecraft at the bottom of the screen, moving left or right, to destroy alien invaders above. The aliens sit in a formation and move across the screen left to right and back again dropping bombs to destroy you. Occasionally a couple of aliens will break from formation and swoop down and when they move off the bottom of the screen they appear at the top again. If you are hit by an alien or a bomb then you lose one of three lives and once you destroy all the aliens then they appear again in formation.

The game is a single screen platformer where you have to move around each screen to collect all the flashing keys to move to the next screen. Ropes can be climbed to get to higher parts on the screen. There are many obstacles to avoid which are gaps in the walls, guards with spears, arrows flying across the screen and falling objects.
