Dropzone

Dropzone

Nintendo Game Boy Color - Released - January 1, 1999

Dropzone is basically a Defender variant, closely recreating the gameplay of the original Defender with its speedy scrolling and frantic gameplay. The player controls a spaceman with a jet-pack, flying across a barren landscape whose skies are inhabited by a number of different aliens, from the simple Planter to the slowly advancing Blunder Storm or the quick, aggressive Nemesite. Planters and Nemesites will try to pickup the small men walking on the surface, who must then be rescued. The player has to shoot down the alien, while avoiding to hit the man. Sometimes, the aliens will carry an android, which is similar to the human but deadly. Care must be taken so as to not pick up the androids. All men must be transported to a surface base, where they are put in safety - this is the Dropzone.

Jimmy White's 2: Cueball

Jimmy White's 2: Cueball

Sega Dreamcast - Released - January 7, 2000

Licensed by snooker player Jimmy White, this game is a simulation of not only the British game of snooker, but also of the three main variations of pool. The game is viewed in detailed 3D, allowing you to rotate the table at all angles, either from overhead or using the cue position as a base. Taking a shot involves setting the exact pace and spin of it, and considering what each contact will do to the position of the cue ball, and any balls you may wish to pot afterwards. In the snooker mode playing accurate 'safety' shots (to prevent your opponent scoring) becomes important as well). In each mode there are 10 computer opponents, and matches can consist of up to 9 frames. A trick-shot editor is also included, allowing you to practice shots and set up challenges. Replays and an undo mode are also included.

Jimmy White's Cueball World

Windows - Released - December 14, 2001

Jimmy White's Cueball World is a billiard sports game endorsed by snooker champion Jimmy White. It is the sequel to Jimmy White's 2, with which it shares many features. The game offers three different types of game: pool (in the variants 9-ball, US 8-ball, UK 8-ball and 14.1 Continuous), snooker and billiards. There are a variety of camera options with top-down and first-person views of the table available. Making a shot can be done easily with the mouse by clicking on the queue and then moving backwards and forwards. More precise control is possible through a number of icons, allowing the player to set power, spin, and cue tilt. Manually chalking is necessary to avoid miscues. A training mode and a trick shot editor are available. The main single player mode consists of consecutive matches against a number of opponents. Beating them unlocks new levels and several sub-games. There are nine environments in the game, starting from a standard pool hall to more exotic ones like a beach and a jungle. The sub-games include Darts (301, 501 or Round the Clock), Thumb War, Maze and Stunt Tables. The game can be played by two players on one machine, over a LAN and also the Internet. The game features live-action footage of Jimmy White commenting on the player's success or failures.
