007: Blood Stone

Sony Playstation 3 - Released - November 2, 2010

007: Blood Stone is the second Bond title produced by Activision after acquiring the well-known license. It isn't based on any of the Bond novels or movies and thus features an original story. It is the first Bond title since 007: Everything or Nothing to do so. Gameplay-wise it is a third-person shooter with elements of hand-to-hand combat. Also, there are some driving sequences. The game features a focus aim system which allows players to lock onto targets after melee takedowns, not too dissimilar to the "Mark and Execute" feature from Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction. There is also a multiplayer mode consisting of up to 16 players that will pit spies versus mercenaries. Alongside team deathmatch and other standard game modes there are massive objective-based battles where players have to work as a team to attack or defend various spy-themed goals. The player also pilots several vehicle types throughout the course of the game.

Blur

Windows - Released - May 25, 2010

In Blur's career mode, the player will encounter numerous characters and many licensed cars ranging from Dodge Vipers to Lotus Exiges to Ford Transit vans fitted with F1 engines, all of which have full damage modeling and separate traits such as Acceleration, Speed, Drift, Grip and Stability. Some special car models have been designed by Bizarre Creations themselves. There are also some heavily altered versions of familiar urban environments, such as the Los Angeles river halfpipe and several parts of London. These areas were altered to make the races more enjoyable instead of the developers having to strictly abide by each twist and turn. Depending on the character(s) the player races against or tags along with in team races, they will have their own racing styles, power-up set ups, match types, locales, cars and will be apart of certain fictional servers. As the player races well, performs stunts and uses power-ups in certain ways during races, the player will gain 'fan points'. These points help the player progress through the career, purchase more cars and parts and earn more fans for the user base. During the career, challenges will take place midrace when the player drives through a fan icon. Completing these short challenges (e.g. find a secret nitro power-up) will reward the player with a fan points boost.

Utilize an arsenal of power-ups like nitro speed boosts, shock attacks, defensive shields, and landmines to beat your rivals across the finish line. You choose how and when to use your arsenal of power-ups for ultimate impact in a race where the outcome is never certain. In Blur the storyline plays out in the single player campaign. Here players assume the role of an up-and-coming racer who is looking to make a name for himself in the underground racing scene, but the competition is fierce. As you take on the series of races, you'll meet a bunch of recurring characters. Some of these characters will be rivals, others perhaps will act as mentors, and some may be something else entirely. The only thing that is certain in the world of Blur is that in a race there are winners and losers, and racers will do anything to reach the finish line first.

Geometry Wars: Galaxies

Geometry Wars: Galaxies

Nintendo DS - Released - November 27, 2007

Like its parent, the Xbox Live Arcade game Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved, Galaxies has the player control a ship that can shoot and travel in 8 directions and is controlled primarily with analog sticks and a single button to activate bombs. The playing space is a flat 2D plane, but unlike Evolved there are multiple planes (or levels) that vary in size and shape. The planes are typically a near-black background lit up with a grid, but enemies are brightly colored shapes that fill the screen with particles and colors when attacking the player. Galaxies differs from Retro Evolved in that the single-player component has many different levels rather than the single provided in Evolved, each with its own set of score goals. Galaxies also adds a new mechanic of the drone, which acts as a helper ship that can perform one user-selected duty at a time such as rotating shield, secondary shooter, backwards shooter, etc. The Wii version includes Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved and can interface with the Nintendo DS to download the demo to the system, as well as to unlock new features, including a hidden version of Geometry Wars: Waves.

Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved is an old school style shooter, but remixed for the 21st century with next generation graphics and deep, modern gameplay. Playing is simple: you are a geometric "ship" trapped in a grid world, facing off against waves of deadly wanderers, snakes, and repulsars. Your aim is to survive long enough to set a high score! Avoid the spawning enemies, and shoot them down for points. You can also fire smart bombs, which destroy all bad guys on the screen. Save these up for when the going gets really tough! The more bad guys you kill, the higher your score multiplier goes (2x, 4x, etc.). The higher your multiplier, the more you can score. But don't die, as you lose your multiplier and have to build it up again from scratch!

The Club

The Club

Sony Playstation 3 - Released - February 19, 2008

The Club is an organization that recruits "outsiders" to fight in an underground bloodsport. Those "outsiders" come from every possible corner of the earth but have one thing in common: they are good at killing people. Eight characters with different skills await the player. Renwick for example is an ex-cop which is rather balanced in the skills speed, strength and stamina. Once the decision has been made, the tournament needs to be chosen. Set for example in a Stahlwerk in Germany, each tournament consists of six rounds. Each round has a different objective. The sprint challenge for example requires the player to race to the exit before time runs out. The siege challenge instead requires the player to survive for a certain amount of time in a limited space. But all challenges have one thing in common: The player looks at his character's back and shoots his way through hordes of enemies. For each kill, the player gets points and builds up a combo-multiplier. How many points the player gets depends on how high the multiplier is, where he hit the enemy and if he performed a special action before the kill like breaking through a door or jumping through a window. Each kill increases the multiplier by one but if the player waits too long between kills, it decreases. The higher it was at the last kill, the faster it will decrease. The game also features 8 different multiplayer-modes. These include normal Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch as well as modes like Team Fox Hunt in which the teams need to kill the fox of the enemy team in order to win.
