Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a life simulation video game developed and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch console. It is the fifth main series title in the Animal Crossing series. As in previous installments in the Animal Crossing series, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a nonlinear life simulation game played in real-time. The player assumes the role of a customizable character who moves to a deserted island after purchasing a vacation package from Tom Nook. The game proceeds in an open-ended fashion as the player explores the island, and develops it into a community of anthropomorphic animals. Similarly to the 2017 spin-off title Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, the game introduces a crafting system that allows the player to convert materials into tools and furniture, which can be used to decorate the game's interior and exterior spaces. Nook Miles, a new in-game currency earned by accomplishing various tasks, can be used to purchase premium items. The game allows the player to select their character's skin color, a feature introduced in the 2015 spin-off title Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer appearing for the first time in a main series Animal Crossing title. The game's weather also adjusts to the seasons of the Northern and Southern Hemisphere depending on the player's real-world location, a first for the Animal Crossing series. New Horizons supports both local and online co-op gameplay, with up to four players locally and eight players online able to occupy an island at a given time.

In traditional gameplay, players try to make their way up to first place while trying to hinder other opponent's progress towards the same goal, using various items found in item boxes at some portions of the race. However, in this game, players have to try to instead accumulate the most points to get the most number of Grand Stars. The game includes four different CCs, them being 50cc, 100cc, 150cc and 200cc, in which the first is automatically unlocked and the next two can be unlocked during gameplay, while the fourth being included with purchasing the Gold Pass. It also includes features from previous installments like underwater racing and hang gliding from Mario Kart 7. Mario Kart Tour includes several characters from previous games, with three new characters, them being Pauline, making her Mario Kart debut, Peachette and a musician skin for Mario. Mario Kart Tour also re-features karts from previous games. The game also introduces a new feature; Frenzy, in which if a player is using a character which can get three items per item box and gets three of the same item, they can use this item multiple time while invincible. In each track, there will be a featured character, which if the player has and selected that certain character, they would be able to have three items per item box and the chance of Frenzy is unlocked. The game is separated into different tours, each tour featuring different featured tracks.. The first tour was the New York Tour. The game features 16 cups, with some tracks from previous cups being re-used and all races last two laps. The cups are also named after Mario characters instead of the usual items in the Mario franchise.
