2014 Fifa World Cup Brazil

2014 Fifa World Cup Brazil

Microsoft Xbox 360

2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil is a reworked version of FIFA 14 tailored for the world cup event in Brazil. Fully licensed as usual, it includes all 203 official FIFA country teams, their players and the real stadia. The different game modes include the qualification phase, exhibition matches, and the world cup itself. It is also possible to alter history and qualify with a team that did not make it to the real world cup. There is a mode to become the captain of your country where an individual player goes through training and matches competing against other team members to become captain. Road to Rio de Janeiro allows players to compete in an online tournament across the 12 venues of the cup. There are various kill games and both offline and online multiplayer matches are supported. EA Talk Radio offers a selection of duos that provide commentary for matches. Despite extensive borrowing from FIFA 14, there are also a number of changes. There are for instance new and additional animations for the players and the crowds have various details and attributes that refer to the countries' teams and colours. The appearance of the real coaches has been simulated and the game often cuts away to scenes of fans celebrating at home. The defense AI has been made looser, making it easier to break through. It also has become much more viable to launch long distance shots as there is a much higher chance of scoring than usual, leading to more spectacular goals. The keepers however have received an ability boost and will prevent scores from getting out of hand. Penalties have been made easier to perform, but keepers have more options to distract the strikers. Scoring from corners has been made harder as defenders will now jump up and will prevent attackers from cutting in unobstructed. This also applies to crosses that are now more often intercepted and headers feel less overpowered compared to previous titles. Other gameplay changes affect dribbling, an increased accuracy in passing and first-touch mechanics. Overall, the game mechanics have been made more accessible.

All-Pro Football 2K8

All-Pro Football 2K8

Microsoft Xbox 360 - Released - July 16, 2007

All-Pro Football 2K8 features a fictional league called the "All-Pro League", or 'APL'. The APL consists of 24 teams that are grouped into six divisions of four teams each. The league runs a sixteen-game schedule and holds a championship game at the end of the playoffs, similar to the NFL. Since the exclusivity deal the NFL has with EA only covers active players, 2K contracted the individual rights to over 240 retired NFL players to appear in the game. Even though there are no NFL teams in the game, the player can still create teams that resemble their NFL counterparts. A Create-a-Player feature allows the player to add in players that were not included in the roster, such as Hall of Fame linebacker Lawrence Taylor. While the game includes teams representing Los Angeles and Las Vegas, neither of which have an NFL team, there are no teams representing Buffalo, Kansas City, Baltimore, Jacksonville, Tennessee, Indianapolis, San Diego, or New Orleans—all cities with real NFL teams. Cleveland and Cincinnati are both represented by a team representing Ohio, and only one team represents the San Francisco Bay Area instead of two. Green Bay is not represented, but a city nearby, Milwaukee, is instead.

Alone in the Dark

Alone in the Dark

Microsoft Xbox 360 - Released - June 24, 2008

It has been 83 years since Edward Carnby investigated the suicide of Jeremy Hartwood. Now he wakes up in an apartment in New York and is moments away from being shot by a group of bad guys. He doesn't remember much and as he looks into a mirror, a man looks back at him that isn't even near the age of 80. But as all hell breaks loose and mysterious forces tear through the building and the city itself, the question about his looks becomes one of many. To make things even worse, an old enemy decides to return in a search for a powerful stone. So for Carnby a race for survival begins and all signs point to Central Park. Edward's mysterious journey is divided into eight episodes that can be played in chronological order or can be accessed directly from the main menu. Once in the game, the player controls Edward either in a 1st-person or a 3rd-person manner either by switching manually or depending on the situation and what item he uses. If he picks up a fire extinguisher for example, the player will be able to extinguish fires with it if he is in 1st-person mode. In 3rd-person mode it instead becomes a deadly weapon or a battering ram. This is especially important since Edward won't find much ammunition for the pistols, shotguns and other weapons in the game. Instead he needs to be creative and use the items he finds or the environment for his advantage. Especially since most enemies can only be permanently killed by burning them, igniting a wooden chair at a nearby fire, or using a lighter and a can of hairspray are Edward's best bets to knock them out. Fire plays an important role in the game at all times. If not extinguished, it will slowly burn through anything in the vicinity and spread until everything burnable has been reduced to a smoking pile of ash. This behavior can of course be useful to Edward if he for instance wants to get through a closed wooden door and has nothing heavy at hand to force his way.

The action takes place from a third-person perspective as you complete objectives however you see fit, depending on the direction of your character. Stealth-oriented spies can complete the entire game without killing an enemy, while destructive types can bring out the body armor and heavy artillery. Action points can be assigned to an assortment of attributes, from stealth and pistols to sabotage and technical aptitude, which all lead to different skills. Cash earned by completing missions can also be spent in multiple ways, from powerful weapons on the black market to hiring mercenaries to purchasing various gun modifications for improving stats in areas like damage, accuracy, recoil, stability, and ammunition capacity.

Arcania: Gothic 4

Arcania: Gothic 4

Microsoft Xbox 360 - Released - October 19, 2010

The hero of the Gothic saga has fulfilled his destiny and became King Robar III. Once he recklessly agreed to deliver a strange amulet for a blind lady, and from that moment on, his soul became corrupted. Now all the former hero can think about is power and conquest - but not for long, as a new hero has risen somewhere else... ArcaniA: Gothic 4 is the successor to Gothic 3 and based upon the stories of the previous games, but does not continue it. It is a single-player, role-playing game with a "back-to-basics" approach, and features which have been slimmed down. Taking place a decade later than the previous game, players take the role of a new hero whose motivation and goal is to destroy the forces who have massacred his loved ones. Unlike other Gothic series games, the world map here is much smaller. Although each location can be explored fully, once at a new location there is no going back to a previous area. The plot is linear. Through the series of quests, the storyline progresses as each objective is reached, eliminating guesswork. There are no guilds or factions to align with, and no in-game morality code so the player doesn't need to worry about being thrown in jail for opening the wrong chest, stealing an item or killing someone. In addition, the amount of inventory items that can be carried has no cap. There are three main classes (mage, ranger and warrior), skill trees and levelling up as experience increases. Battles are action-based. Choose to fight with ranged or melee weapons, or cast one of the three types of spells (fire, lightning or ice). Spells increase in strength in alignment with the player's levels. Gather plants and minerals to create potions and other items using a simplified crafting system. Upgrades to armour and weapons can be purchased with the gold amassed from fallen foes or quest rewards.
