100-in-1 Contra 16 Function

Nintendo Entertainment System - Unlicensed - 1991

100-in-1 Contra 16 Function is a Famicom multicart developed by Supervision in 1991. The menu interface features music from Booby Kids. The cart itself contains many repeats, and the last 42 entries on the list allow you to change the starting level and/or number of lives you start with on the selected game. As the title implies, 16 of the menu listings are variations of Contra. Arkanoid and both versions of Tetris have been cut down from 48k to 40k and so some graphics have been removed in these.

10-Yard Fight

10-Yard Fight

Nintendo Entertainment System - Released - August 30, 1985

The main idea of this game is that players take control of a football team and have the task of trying to score a touchdown before the clock runs out. Players start out as a high school team. Games consists of two halves. One touchdown must be scored before time runs out in each half or the game is lost. After a touchdown is scored, the half ends and the 2nd half of the game starts. If the player scores in both halves, they win the game, and then move on to the next level of difficulty. Difficulty levels after high school go from college, pro, then to super. The higher the difficulty, the less amount of time is given for a player to score a touchdown. Since the game is concerned with scoring touchdowns, in the 1 player game the player is always on offense. Players can score points for completing passes and for gaining yards by either rushing or passing. Scoring a touchdown also adds to the players score, as does any remaining time on the clock after the touchdown is scored. Also after a touchdown, the player can add on to their score by kicking an extra point. Other rules on the field include getting a 1st down to add time to the clock. If the player throws an interception or go four downs without getting a 1st down, they are penalized yards. In a 2 player game, the second player plays defense until it's their turn to play offense.

1493: The Year After

Nintendo Entertainment System - ROM Hack - August 29, 2018

Here it is 1493: The Year After A hack of 1943 The Battle of Midway, it has a whole new story, new Title Screen, and some game code changes. The complete text changes include a Binary Code, A Plot Twist, and Religious Reference, etc. has a new Fake Ending, a new Real Ending, and new After Ending texts. Your quest is to pursue and perhaps destroy Christopher Columbus as he voyages to discover America, just as he departs on his 2nd voyage you enter from the NES Time Warp to chase him. We will not tell the long backstory of why this was made. However, the fact that Columbus never made a Final Voyage comes to mind. In addition to the normal patch, there is included the Time Warp patch that includes some distortion through the use of apparent glitches that are there because that is what it is supposed to do. It is Not a Bug.

150-in-1

Nintendo Entertainment System - Unlicensed - 1990

Pirate multicart containing 150 games. Do you like Galaxian? Somehow we ended up with seven of them! If you see Galaxian 7 on the first screen you have the right one. With new games for 1990!

190-in-1

Nintendo Entertainment System - Unlicensed - 1990

Despite the multicart's claim, only 42 games are actually included. The menu system is unorthodox, with the first 15 games on the first page leading to the other pages which can be accessed by pressing the Select button. Like some Supervision multicarts, the menu music is taken from Booby Kids. The graphics are taken from the Magic Jewelry hack that's included among the games. Unlike most multicarts where the repeats have random letters added on to the end, this multicart uses alternate names such as Luigi Bros and Zero Wing. (The latter of which is not the Mega Drive game of the same name) The memory is likely all stored in PRG format, as the games take about 3 seconds to load when picked.

1919

Nintendo Entertainment System - ROM Hack - November 10, 2008

In 1919 we took a little trip across the great Atlantic, just to sink the titanic, No that was 1912. And yes for all mistakes and purposes we know world war 1 ended in the 1918 (cease-fire), with the peace treaty signed on June 28 1919. But just maybe we ripped it up and America said it’s their turn to invade Germany and stop Hitler before he comes to power thus preventing world war 2 from ever happening. Yeah right but anyway it’s a hack of 1942. There are two patches Normal and Hard versions. Enjoy. Updated for 2017, has a cleaner Title and some minor cosmetic changes, and it includes both the old and new patches.

The race will be simulated without any player interaction, and at the end of each race event players will get their respective prize money. The goal is to earn more money this way than any other player.

1999: Hore, Mita koto ka! Seikimatsu

1999: Hore, Mita koto ka! Seikimatsu

Nintendo Entertainment System - Released - September 18, 1992

Four Japanese high-school students were camping at the countryside, when they suddenly saw an UFO landing nearby. Before they managed to understand anything, a small pink alien with a strict-looking face came out of the space ship and announced that the end of the century is near - and something extraordinary will happen in the year 1999. That's where the game begins. You can play as one (or two, in 2-player mode) of the students, competing against the others. You must prepare for the upcoming end of the century, earn enough money, and generally manage your life well. This is a Monopoly-like board game, only instead of dices you use cards. The characters are represented by small cars on a city map. The number that appears on the card you pull from the deck represents the amount of squares your car can move on the map. Each square leads to a different event: accident, romantic meeting, promotion, etc. Some of the events allow you to make an additional choice. For example, if you land in a casino, you'll be asked if you want to gamble. Answering "yes" will lead to a slot machine mini-game.

3 in 1 Supergun is a compilation of light gun games, developed by Chengdu Tai Jing Da Dong Computer Co and published by Micro Genius, which was released in Asia and Italy in 1993. This multicart contains three games, of which require a zapper to play. Oddly, all 3 games start up with a menu reading "Gun Fighter" on the top and with the option of selecting 3 difficulties. At least two versions of this multicart are known to exist, with the other version(s) fixing the spelling of "Clown" on the menu and adding 3 (non-zapper) games; one dumped variant adds F15 City War, Poke Block and Volleyball.

3D Block

3D Block

Nintendo Entertainment System - Unlicensed - 1989

This is an adaptation of Blockout, which in itself is a 3D version of Tetris. This is emphasized with the cartridge itself, having the artwork ripped from the original game. In this version the well is 5x5x10 cubes large and the size never changes, unlike the official versions. The controls are somewhat unorthodox, as unlike most other games, the Select button pauses the game while Start speeds up the block so that it moves to the bottom of the well faster. The block designs themselves are the same as in the arcade version of Blockout.

3-in-1 2p Pak

Nintendo Entertainment System - Homebrew - August 21, 2016

Do you like tic-tac-toe? Do you like the pegboard game? Do you like !CLIK!? What if they were also two-player competitive on the NES? Well then this game's for you! Compete against a friend, or play witchoself (get those tissues, though)! There are 3 different 2-player games, along with a bonus 2-player game that you can unlock after beating all the games as 1-player. If you look around, you might also find ANOTHER 2-player only game that is hidden within! The entire reason I started programming this game was to try and kind of vindicate myself in some way. I had already done some other games that were bigger in scope than the games of Tic-Tac XO, Pegs and !CLIK!, but didn't like how I had coded them due to being newer using 6502 at the time. All you have to do is look at the sources for those games to understand what I'm talking about! So, I went about putting the basic elements of those games into one cart, but just more standard (for instance, just regular Tic-Tac-Toe), and for 1 or 2 players. With that said, there is some sort of glitching that happens to the PPU during Tic-Tac-Toe that I could never track down, but ah well. It was a neat project. Snail Trail, one of the bonus games, was an idea for a parody of the Tron cycles game. Originally I was going to have the snails move UUUUU-BER slow. I think it turned out better having them move at the speed they are, though.

This game being released in December 1988 and namely so, it was designed to predict your fortune for the upcoming year 1989. This makes attempting to play it already kind of useless once the year had passed. Therefore one can only look back at what the computer predicted for you back in 1989.

A Nightmare on Elm Street

A Nightmare on Elm Street

Nintendo Entertainment System - Released - October 1, 1990

LJN's NES version of the classic horror series casts the player as a teen searching the houses on Elm Street for Freddy Krueger's bones. Once they are all collected, they must be thrown into the high school furnace to destroy Freddy once and for all (a plot similar to 1987's A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors). Nightmare has two worlds. In the red-tinted "real world," players fight snakes and spiders while navigating standard platform challenges. The players here have a "sleep meter" that depletes with every hit taken. If the player's sleep meter drops to empty, the game transitions into the blue-tinted "dream world," where enemies take on the appearance of skeletons and ghosts. An invisible timer also starts, counting down until Freddy appears and forces the player into a brief boss battle. The sleep meter becomes a standard life gauge in the dream world, and deducts a life from the player if drained. Players can find and collect three different icons in the dream world to become "Dream Warriors" with special powers and projectile attacks - both of which give a significant edge when fighting Freddy. Collecting all the bones in a level takes the player to a final level boss, usually taking the form of a monster with Freddy's face or trademark razor glove. Players move back and forth down Elm Street, and a new house opens up as the previous one is cleared. Nightmare is compatible with the NES Four Score accessory, allowing up to four players to play at once using the same screen.

Their owner, Jon, is too lazy to go look for Odie himself, so he has Garfield go out and look for him. And so Garfield heads off, out into the world. A Week of Garfield is a side-scrolling platform game based on the comic strip by Jim Davis. Garfield heads to the right through various indoor and outdoor city environments, dealing with endless vermin like frogs, birds, and mice using his judo kick skills and several different weapons such as bones that can be thrown. He has a life bar that can quickly deplete if he isn't careful, but hidden all around each stage are various items, which can replenish his health, refill his weapon supplies, and give him super speed or invincibility; be careful, though, as sometimes he'll also find fish bones which will harm Garfield if eaten.

Aa Yakyuu Jinsei Icchokusen

Aa Yakyuu Jinsei Icchokusen

Nintendo Entertainment System - Released - December 25, 1992

In this game, you must help a little boy to become a baseball star. Your goal is to make it through elementary school and high school, to build up his personality (making him more attractive, etc.), and finally let him be drafted by a professional baseball team. All this is achieved through playing (alone, vs. computer, or in two-, three-, and four-player mode) a board game in which you take your hero through a series of fields. Unlike most similar games, the amount of fields you can advance is not determined by a dice roll, but by a moving power meter that you must stop at the right time in order to jump the desired amount of fields. Needless to say that those fields have very different effects on the participants. There are different stats (like stamina, charisma, etc.) that can be increased or reduced if you step on a particular field. For example, you might end up on a "eating" field, which will take you to a friend who will invite you to a dinner. This will result in increased weight, a parameter that will affect your future performance.

Adventure Island 3: The Lost Isles

Adventure Island 3: The Lost Isles

Nintendo Entertainment System - ROM Hack - 2008

This hack was started back in December 2007. Most of the levels were finished by mid February. The title screen was ripped from the translated NES ROM “Adventure Island 4″. Since I am an amateur ROM hacker (is there a professional ROM Hacker?) in every sense of the word, this took much longer to edit than someone with more experience and abilities. Also you’ll notice that the palette on the title screen is a little off :P All 8 worlds and 8 levels each have been altered. (with the exception of world 4-4 although most enemies have been changed) This is not meant to be a “hardtype” hack but later levels can be very challenging. All levels can be completed without any enhancements. (hammer, dinosaur etc.) However it is recommended that you save your items for later levels.

Adventure Island II

Adventure Island II

Nintendo Entertainment System - Released - February 1, 1991

In Adventure Island II the player takes the role of Master Higgins who has to save his cavegirl from aliens which also want to dominate the Earth. The basic gameplay elements are the same as in its predecessor Adventure Island: Master Higgins walks through the levels while fighting against various enemies. One hit results in his untimely death unless he carries one of the various power ups, e.g. weapons or a skateboard which improves his speed. He also needs to collect food to fill up his steadily decreasing starvation bar - death awaits if it hits zero. A big addition are dinosaurs which serve as mount and offer different abilities, e.g. flying or shooting fireballs. Like all power ups these don't have to be used instantly but can be saved for later: before every level the player can choose the power ups he wants to bring with him. There are overall eight worlds with different themes which are represented by a overhead map. Sometimes there are different paths with other level and at the end of a world Master Higgins has to fight a boss.

Airwolf (Kyugo)

Nintendo Entertainment System - Released - December 24, 1988

Completely different than the version published by Acclaim in the US. Airwolf is an horizontal shooter by Kyugo Boueki and based on the popular American television series aired in the 1980s. The player takes control of a super helicopter codenamed Airwolf, a military aircraft capable of supersonic speeds and stealth capabilities, and embarks on perilous undercover missions. Before each stage, the player is prompted to pick one primary air-weapon and a secondary ground-bomb. The primary weapon comes in three types - the Chain Gun fires straight ahead and at an angle, the Falcon fires small missiles and the Cannon. The same principle applies to ground-bombs and they come in three flavors - Red-Eye (bombs), Copperhead (missiles) and Hellfire (bullets). Pow icons are occasionally left behind enemy formations - they increase the equipped weapon's fire power and improve its firing rate. Finally, the Airwolf can fly at supersonic speed for a short amount of time and becomes invulnerable when it does. However, this technique consumes fuel and must be used with caution. Each level is essentially a linear path toward a large boss - interestingly, boss fights use a first-person view as opposed to side scrolling and losing even one means game over. In addition, the player is rewarded with a password after each completed level , however they are not used to save his progress but to unlock the game's ending - so they must be carefully written down and are randomly generated for each play session.
