Protector is a two-dimensional side-scrolling shooter game much in the style of Defender set on the surface of Haven-7, where the player controls the Starblade ship as it navigates left or right over the terrain, where the main objective is to destroy alien invaders, while also protecting the inhabitants on the planetoid's landscape from being abducted by the aliens. There are a total of 15 stages, with the progress being kept after completing five stages via the cartridge's EEPROM but high-scores and other settings are not saved. Although the game got developed on Atari Jaguar hardware, it was intended as a kiddie ride you’d see outside a local supermarket. Given its target demographic of very young children, the game is quite simple. You drive down a straight road, avoiding traffic cones and cow dung. After a few minutes, you arrive at a parking lot. That’s it.
