Pushman

Pushman

Arcade - Released - 1990

PushMan was produced by Comad in 1990. This is a colorful puzzle game where you must push or pull using power-ups boxes around the screen to fill in holes blocking the exit. You must avoid traps, enemies and their shots. There is a time limit for each screen. This game is somewhat similar to the multi-platform game Sokoban and its many derivitives. However, the fact that you can pull boxes one pull for each P power-up you collect somewhat reduces the puzzle aspect of the game. It may be dipswitch selectable, but my version reveals additional details of a swimsuit clad woman for successully completing levels. The two-player gameplay is odd as it's not really alternating. The first player completes their game, then the second player plays their entire game. It may alternate between completing full levels, but does not after succesfully completing a screen or after dying. Licensed to Sammy and American Sammy for worldwide distribution.

S.S. Mission

S.S. Mission

Arcade - Released - 1992

S.S. Mission was produced by Comad in 1992. Alien forces have come and taken over your planet so in this vertically scrolling shoot-em-up viewed from above you must fly your helicopter and destroy them all and save your planet. The game is split into stages and you must face wave after wave of various aliens ships as the game scrolls constantly. You start with basic lasers but power-ups in the shape of helicopters can be collected to upgrade your weapon. You also have three smart-bombs which will destroy all on the screen. At the end of the stage you face a large end of stage boss. Once defeated you move onto the next stage. If you touch any alien ships or bullets then you lose one of three lives and once they are lost it's game over but you can continue where you last died with extra credits. You can play with another player who both play at the same time.

Super Duck

Super Duck

Arcade - 1992

You’re controlling the angel-duck, and your mission is to clear each stage by collecting all the fruits / vegetables in the stage- in this case, those rather succulent-looking strawberries. The play area is a maze constructed from lollipop sticks hovering over a pond, so as you can probably tell most of the gameplay is going to revolve around jumping. You can only walk on the wooden platforms and you have to jump between them. You can only jump across a gap of one “unit,” if you get me – so the duck will clear the jump he’s attempting in the screenshot above, but if he tried to jump directly downwards from his landing point he’d fall to his death because that gap’s two “units” wide. Okay, so there are also monsters to avoid. They could easily threaten a duck. There are two main categories of monsters in Super Duck: the ones that pop up and fire a deadly projectile roughly in the duck’s direction, or the ones that run around the level without a care in the world, uninterested in what the duck is up to but still deadly to the touch. Whether by design or coincidence, the monsters often seem to congregate on the outer peripheries of the stage. It doesn’t feel particularly intentional, but there are always a few fruits you need to grab at the edge of the level and those are the most difficult to reach so maybe the monsters are supposed to move outwards and block your path. Once you’ve grabbed every piece of fruit, the stage ends and you’re whisked away to the next one. There’s a different layout of platforms to contend with and the background usually changes, but other than that the gameplay’s the same, and I don’t think it’d be too harsh to say that if you’ve played one stage of Super Duck you’ve played ‘em all. If I was comparing Super Duck to another game I suppose Pac-Man would be the obvious choice, although because both games are about jumping between floating platforms from a sort-of-top-down perspective, Evil Stone would be a more accurate comparison. Thankfully this game never gets anywhere near as frustrating as Evil Stone.

Super Model

Arcade - Released - 1994

Super Model is a non-nude clone of "New Fantasia" featuring photographic images of both Japanese and western models. The objective is to reveal 80% of the silhouetted girl's image within the time limit while avoiding the enemies. To complicate things, there is a bar with a pointer at the top of the screen. If the pointer dips below a certain level (indicated by the change in color) the image will change to that of a monster. The pointer slowly creeps towards the monster side of the bar over time and moves dramatically towards the monster side whenever the player reveals a significant piece of the silhouette. Revealing the un-silhouetted part of the image moves the pointer back towards the girl side of the bar. If a round is completed while the monster's image is shown then the round must be repeated.

Zero Zone

Arcade - Released - 1993

As blocks fall from the top of the screen in three's and two's, you try to line them up so there re at least three of the same color in any straight line direction. If you press your button the colors will rotate with the bottom color moving to the top and the other two moving down one. If the stacks (the blocks, not the women) reach the top of the screen, the game is over.
