2nd Super Robot Wars Original Generation

2nd Super Robot Wars Original Generation

Sony Playstation 3 - Released - November 29, 2012

Developed by the same team behind Super Robot Wars Original Generation Gaiden, the game uses high-energy, dynamic action for the in-game battle sequences. According to current series producer Takenobu Terada, the game will use High-definition 2D sprites rendered over a 3D background. This effect was similarly used in the previous Super Robot Wars 64. The Twin Battle System from previous Original Generation installments, where two adjacent units can combine into a single squad, which can then attack simultaneously, will return. Two new features of the game were also revealed. The first one is the Maximum Break, which allows 4 units to attack simultaneously to the enemy.[1] The second is the ability slot system, which each pilot and mech gets three ability slots. Twin Units, one in game piece with two robots and two pilots, have a total of twelve slots. Default abilities were equipped when the game starts and defeating enemies allows players to obtain new ones. To activate an effect, the player needs three of the same abilities equipped to either the pilot or mech.[2] Usual features like the Weapon Equip System and Combination Attacks are also present

If you are maudlin and easy tear you probably like this game. Or not. Based on the premise that crying helps relieve stress, Bandai Namco (Ninety-Nine Nights) pretends with "99 Tears" just that, to make the Nintendo DS owners cry like muffins to de-stress them. The "game", which really is not such, will take place in a city where the inhabitants have forgotten how to cry. One day, returning from work, you run into a store called "Source of Tears" and everything starts. The player will have to "play" at the end of each day one of the 99 stories that the game has chosen for us previously among the 200 possible based on a kind of psychoanalysis. According to our response to the story, the game will continue the sequence optimally to provoke crying.

AKB1/48 Idol to Guam to Koishitara... (First Print Limited Edition)

AKB1/48 Idol to Guam to Koishitara... (First Print Limited Edition)

Sony PSP - Released - October 6, 2011

Unlike the original game, AKB1/48: Idol to Koishitara..., released a year earlier, this game is sort of a dream where each of the AKB48 idols are in love with you, but you're only be able to select and profess your love to one of them in the end. AKB48 (AKB is abbreviation of Akihabara, an electronic town in Tokyo) is a j-pop idol group with, yes, you guessed it, 48 members in total. Members aren't constant and their popularity is based on votes by the fans of the group. As the title implies, the game takes place in the island of Guam, and idols will wear bikinis a lot, and regular clothes lot less. The game mostly plays like a visual novel which user real-life locations and actual idols in various poses over the background image instead of anime art. The setting itself is not the only thing differing from the first game. This game features new poses and photo shots with different clothes (the more showing kind) and re-recorded voice-acting by AKB48 members for the new scenario. The game progresses one day at the time where you spend with one of the idols, either on a date or in casual talk. The player is given a list of letters sent to you by AKB48 girls with their profiles. Based on who sent you the message, you can reply to it which eventually leads you to a date with that person. You can use the phone to call the person of interest and set a date. During the date part which plays as a visual novel, there will be a dialogue selection which will show the girl you're with if you're rude, indifferent or like her. This in turn may prompt her to contact you again at the beginning of the next day. Some correspondence occurs irregularly when the girl liked how she felt when she was with you on previous dates. Likewise, addresses of the girls you were rude with will disappear from the list until only one remains. Initially, all 48 girls are listed as your potential girlfriends. During special so called escort event scenes, idols will wear a special bikini and pose jut for you. Any event scene during visual novel gameplay lets on-screen text be toggled off and allows for certain amount of zooming. Various unlockables such as visual cards, event scenes, and steel photos can accessed from the menu, while collected cards can be traded with other players. AKB48 soundtrack does not need to be unlocked and can be listened via BGM player. It additionally lets the player select default BGM song and theme song for each of the ABK48 membe

Armored Core V

Armored Core V

Sony Playstation 3 - Released - January 26, 2012

Armored Core V is an action game in which the player controls a mech, a big combat robot. The story is more of a reboot and has no direct connection to the predecessors. The protagonist gets caught up in a war between two corporations: the faction of "Father", the dictator of Alloy Gate City, and the resistance. The player joins up with the resistance. The story is divided into ten missions with cutscenes and voice-overs; between them are various story-less order missions open to participate in. However, the core stays always the same: moving forward and blasting a lot of enemy mechs and buildings. This rewards money which is reinvested into mech upgrades - like in all Armored Core games, mech customization is comprehensive and allows to change many details and parts. The single-player content is interwoven with the multiplayer component: clan fights over a persistent map. Right from the beginning, the player has the option to found a new clan or join an existing one. Then every action, solving single-player missions or participating in co-op/competitive fights with clan mates, earns team points. These are required to challenge another clan for their territory.

Blood +: One Night Kiss

Blood +: One Night Kiss

Sony Playstation 2 - Released - August 30, 2006

BLOOD+ One Night Kiss is an action-adventure video game developed by Grasshopper Manufacture for the PlayStation 2 console. It has only been published in Japan, where it was released on August 30, 2006. One Night Kiss was one of the first games Grasshopper worked on after finding fame from killer7, with which it shares the same art style. The game is set in the world of the anime series BLOOD+, and takes place after episode 7. It is written and directed by SUDA51, who applied the same punk philosophies to the game as he would to an original work. Set in the fictional town of Shikishi, most of the game is played from the perspective of Saya Otonashi, with occasional stints as Kou Aoyama, an original character created for One Night Kiss. Saya and the other characters are battling the Chiropterans, bat-like monsters. The Moon is a recurring symbol, used in the opening cutscene and during loading screens, fitting with the series' vampiric inspirations as well as the game's artistic similarities to killer7.

Captain Earth: Mind Labyrinth

Captain Earth: Mind Labyrinth

Sony Playstation Vita - Released - February 26, 2015

The game is mainly a visual novel, requiring little player involvement as the story is told and its progress is mostly told through its text. The player will use many different roles varying from Daichi Manatsu, Hana Mutou, Teppei Arashi, Akari Yomatsuri, Amara, Moco and the rest of the Planetary Gears, and can communicate with the other roles in a typical slice of life environment across various paths, aside from the darker and more battle-oriented style of the main game. The game contains several outcomes for each player, leading to probable several very odd partnerships including Daichi and Moco being together. Such ends also have gay romantic interactions such as Moco with Ai, or Baku with Amara. Certain game modes include "Touch Mode", where players may communicate with characters by "touching" them with the controller of the screen, and a minigame named "Mind Puzzle", where the player is forced to play through the different characters to complete. The mind puzzle will use and combine items from different characters to further progress through the puzzle.

Dark Souls II

Dark Souls II

Sony Playstation 3 - Released - March 11, 2014

Once upon a time, the Kingdom of Drangleic was a majestic, thriving land. However, mysterious events led to the exile of King Vendrick, and the land became desolate, with lost souls dwelling in it. Meanwhile, a lone traveler is seen near the village of Majula. He is trying to find a cure for a terrible curse that has fallen upon him, forcing him to lose his humanity and prey upon the souls of the dark beings. An enigmatic woman known as the Emerald Herald tells him that the Four Grand Souls have to be collected in order to bring redemption to the traveler and the entire land of Drangleic. Dark Souls II is a sequel to Dark Souls, sharing its dark medieval fantasy setting, though it is set in a different land and is not directly connected to it story-wise. In terms of gameplay mechanics, the game is very similar to its predecessor, being a third-person action role-playing game with interconnected world exploration and a deliberate emphasis on challenge. Most cardinal aspects of the gameplay remain the same. Combat relies on timing, precision, as well as dodging and blocking moves that deplete stamina. Defeating enemies yields souls, which can be used at a special bonfire to level up, manually increasing the protagonist's main attributes. The game also features character creation that allows the player to customize the protagonist's class, genre, and physical appearance. The player character is cursed, and each death deprives him of his humanity, sending him back to the last bonfire he has visited. Unlike the previous game, leveling up can only occur at one specific bonfire in the game; however, the player can freely teleport between all the bonfires he has accessed. Another difference is the limitations imposed on respawning enemies - after several tries defeated enemies will no longer re-appear after resting at a bonfire. Magic is given more prominence, enemies having more pronounced strengths and weaknesses to various elements. Joining covenants and participating in special events such as dueling against each other and cooperative fighting are featured in the game's multiplayer mode.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2

Nintendo Switch - Released - September 22, 2017

The game is very similar to its predecessor in terms of gameplay, it is mostly set in a series of 3D battle arenas mostly modeled after notable locations in the Dragon Ball universe, with the central hub being an expanded version of Toki-Toki City, called Conton City. As reported by the creators of the Game, Conton City is seven times larger than Toki-Toki City. Players are able to freely traverse this new hub world, and in some areas are even capable of flying around, however this feature will not be available from start, instead being unlocked. Players will also be able to travel to other hubs such as the Namekian Village and Frieza's ship. Some skills will have to be learned through masters, like the previous game. However, some masters will be found exclusively in these extra hubs. Xenoverse 2 is the fourth Dragon Ball video game to feature character customization. Players are able to choose from the five races of the first game: Humans, Saiyans, Majins, Namekians and Frieza's race. The game also features race-specific quests, minigames and transformations (the latter of which was only available to Saiyans in the first game, via the Super Saiyan forms). Players also have a much greater role in the story, as some decisions will have to be made by them. Multiplayer servers are now able to hold up to 300 players at once. The game also has a training mode called Training School. The player can use different kinds of ki blasts (Power, Homing, Rush, Paralyze and Bomb), and the ki blast type depends on the player's race or Super Soul. Another interesting element in the game is that players will be able to transfer their previous data from Dragon Ball XV 2's predecessor, Dragon Ball Xenoverse. This results in the game's details changing in a way that so players will be able to see the character known as the Toki Toki City's "Hero" in the middle of the square. Players also have the choice not to do this, which results as the default character being the "Hero".

Dragon Ball: Raging Blast 2

Dragon Ball: Raging Blast 2

Sony Playstation 3 - Released - November 2, 2010

Dragon Ball: Raging Blast 2 (Japanese: ドラゴンボール レイジングブラスト2 Hepburn: Doragon Bōru Reijingu Burasuto Tsū) is a video game based on the manga and anime franchise Dragon Ball and is a follow-up to the 2009 video game Dragon Ball: Raging Blast. It was developed by Spike and published by Namco Bandai under the Bandai label for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 gaming consoles in the beginning of November 2010. The game is a 3D fighter that allows players to play as characters within the Dragon Ball universe, either against the game's AI or another player in one of the various modes of play both on and offline. The game comes with a new remake of the 1993 OVA Dragon Ball Z Side Story: Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans, now retitled Dragon Ball: Plan to Eradicate the Super Saiyans. While becoming the second best selling game in Japan for November of its release year, the game would meet with criticism over its gameplay, controls, repetitive AI, and lack of proper story mode. Like its predecessor, Raging Blast 2 uses 3-D gaming mechanics with the camera alternating from over the shoulder to overhead angles at various moments. The player takes on the role of one of the available characters taking on another character from the franchise using various basic, melée, or signature ki fighting techniques. The combat features a technique called Raging Soul, where players are restricted from ki attacks, but physical attacks become stronger. Replacing the standard story mode from previous Dragon Ball fighting games is the Galaxy Mode. Here each character is represented by a planet in the game's galaxy. Within these planets are several mission paths. Each mission has various advantages or handicaps that will affect the overall fight. Completing some of these missions will unlock powerups and or other mission paths. Other modes of play are the Battle Zone, where player take on fighters from different zones, on and offline battle modes where players can take on friends or other random players from around the world, and the World Tournament, which players can take part in either Tenkaichi Budokai or Cell games style fighting competition.

Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 3

Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 3

Sony Playstation 3 - Released - December 16, 2010

Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 3, known in Japan as Gundam Musou 3 (ガンダム無双3, Gandamu Musō Surī), is a tactical action video game based on the Gundam anime series and the sequel to 2008's Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2. It was developed by Omega Force and published by Bandai Namco. The game was revealed in the September issue of Famitsu and was released on December 16, 2010 in Japan, June 28, 2011 in North America, July 1, 2011 in Europe, and July 12, 2011 in Australia. Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 3 follows in the style of previous Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors games as an action-oriented hack and slash with some tactical elements. Despite their similar heritage, Koei's Gundam titles have unique gameplay mechanics that help set them apart from Koei's core Dynasty Warriors series. For example: players are given more ranged combat options than in other Dynasty Warriors games, although melee combat is still the focus of the game. Also, units in Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 3 are much more mobile, using their thrusters to dash, jump in mid-air, and (for some) even fly. However, the greatest difference between Koei's Gundam titles (of which there are currently three) and Koei's Dynasty Warriors series is the core content: rather than using characters and story from the novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms, the games draw their material from across the various Mobile Suit Gundam anime and manga series.

Enemy Front

Enemy Front

Microsoft Xbox 360 - Released - June 10, 2014

Enemy Front is a first-person shooter set during World War II. The player takes control of the American war correspondent Robert Hawkins who fought along with the resistance fighters in various locations in Europe such as Germany, France and Norway, along with the Warsaw Uprising in Poland. The game starts with an audio broadcast where Hawkins announces he will tell the story of what he has seen and the game is then played as a flashback. Hawkins needs to complete various missions often fighting along with other soldiers. There is a large arsenal of weapons, including hand guns, machine guns, assault rifles and sniper rifles, as well a weapon types commonly associated with resistance fighters such as the sten gun, the welrod pistol, the lightning submachine gun and molotov cocktails. Weapons and ammo are picked up along the way or weapons are swapped with those left behind by dead soldiers. Next to pure action, a tactical approach through sabotage and stealth is possible. Hawkins can silently take soldiers hostage, dispose of them and drag their bodies to a sport where they are unlikely to be discovered. The game also has a noise indicator, where loud noises such as planes flying by offer a time-frame to shoot without being revealed. A mini-map in the bottom left corner provides an overview of the environment. Whilst sneaking through foliage stealth kills can also be performed directly. Objects such as stones can be thrown to distract enemies and lure them away. Hawkins also has binoculars to watch the enemy's movement from a distance. Hawkins' health status is revealed through visual cues; when injured the screen has a red glow and fades. Health restores automatically when keeping a low profile for a while. There are three difficulty levels to choose from (casual, normal and expert). On expert enemy markers on the mini-map are removed, making it more difficult to keep track of opponents. While using the sniper rifle Hawkins can hold his breath to steady the view and slightly slow down time. The different levels are split up in multiple sections with primary and secondary objectives such as rescuing hostages, locating officers, stealing supplies and placing explosives. The progress is largely linear with a small number of choices with a different outcome, but the size of the environment often allows for different approaches. Online multiplayer is supported for up to twelve players simultaneously.

Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja 4

Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja 4

Sony Playstation 2 - Released - March 24, 2009

Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja 4 is the first game in the series that moves into the Shippuden storyline. The newly added "Master Mode" tells an original story that takes place during Naruto's journey with Jiraiya and is centered around a demon named Black Shadow who demands human sacrifices from a nearby village. After this is resolved the mode continues with Shippuden's regular Kazekage story arc. The "Master Mode" features a small but open game world for the player to explore. Naruto can collect items, fight enemies and talk to people in order to progress. However, the actual fighting remains to be the core of the Ultimate Ninja experience and was more refined and expanded in Ultimate Ninja 4. When two opponents clash, they will begin a series of high-speed attacks, appearing as a pair of blurs flashing across the stage. The winner is determined by a game similar to that of Rock, Paper, Scissors. There is also the addition of "Awakening Jutsu", a technique that is more powerful than the standard Ultimate Jutsu and, as the name implies, "awakens" a character's hidden powers and can only be used when certain conditions are met.
