Bond is also tasked to retrieve the set of DNA samples that are in Identicon's hands. So James Bond sets off on another adventure... The game combines three game modes into one package: first-person-shooter, which is what most of the missions are, a rail-shooter, where the player only controls firing, and a driving game, where the player drives one of the many Bond cars. Numerous weapons have been added to the series, along with some fictional weapons like the Photon cannon and the 5-way grenade launcher. The player can utilize a wide array of gadgets and weapons, like the Q-Claw, Q-Decoder, and Bond's trusty Walther handgun. There is a large variety of missions, and Bond can go through most missions with weapons, or take a stealthy approach. James Bond races to rescue both the scientist and to retake the nanobots, and kills the General along with the nanobot samples. Bond returns Kataya to a nearby base, but it turns out the scientist has not been so faithful to Oxford. Katya meets up with Nikolai Diavolo, and gives him a hidden vial of the nanobots. Before long Bond is yet again called into action when MI6 loses contact with 003. And so Bond is off to Peru... Everything or Nothing is the second of the James Bond third-person shooters, after Tomorrow Never Dies for the Playstation. The game features new guns and a new and improved aiming system which allows you to strategically hug walls and fire around or crouch behind cover. 007: Everything or Nothing

Sony Playstation 2 - Released - February 17, 2004

The gameplay is a mix of third-person shooting/action sequences and vehicle sequences. In third-person, Bond can move, take cover, aim and shoot with a lock-on system, engage in hand-to-hand combat, use his spy gadgets and perform some context sensitive actions. The lock-on system has a precision aiming dot that can be moved with the right thumb stick to target specific areas of the body. It does not snap to said specific areas making it possible to completely miss your target. A unique feature, "Bond sense", allows you to see the world how Bond does, allowing you to spot things that Bond can interact with. Using Bond sense slows down time so the player may have a chance to spot objects or enemies, but the player cannot move or take action without deactivating Bond sense. Two players can play through a co-op campaign that uses some areas from the single player campaign but adds unique scenarios and maps to the mix.

007: From Russia with Love

007: From Russia with Love

Microsoft Xbox - Released - November 1, 2005

Building on 007: Everything or Nothing's range of strengths, 007: From Russia with Love is based on the 1963 film starring Sean Connery as James Bond. He is sent to Istanbul to acquire the Russian decoder machine known as the Lektor from a (supposedly) defecting Russian agent by the name of Tatiana Romanova. However, the Russians have no knowledge of this plan because it is a trap for James Bond created by the criminal organization known as Octopus. It is up to James Bond to seize the device and confront the dangerous assassin Red Grant and the ruthless Rosa Klebb. In most of the 18 missions the player progresses through linear levels while shooting everything in sight. The player can lock onto an enemy at range and cycle between visible enemies, or focus in closer on a single enemy to make opportunistic targets appear, such as uncovered grenades or gaps in armor. Sometimes Bond can also use stealth or hand-to-hand combat, which are basically quick-time events where the player needs to press a displayed button in a limited time to dispatch a foe. Special tasks can be preformed with gadgets, e.g. the laser watch or a small remote controlled helicopter. This procedure gets spiced up with occasional driving or new jet pack sequences. The player gets rewarded for certain actions with bonus points, e.g. succeeding in melee combat or searching containers. There are three different kind of points which unlock different things: bonus content like making of videos, bonus levels, and weapon upgrades. Every weapon and gadget can be upgraded in different areas, but only once.

2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil

2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil

Sony Playstation 3 - Released - April 15, 2014

2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil is a reworked version of FIFA 14 tailored for the world cup event in Brazil. Fully licensed as usual, it includes all 203 official FIFA country teams, their players and the real stadia. The different game modes include the qualification phase, exhibition matches, and the world cup itself. It is also possible to alter history and qualify with a team that did not make it to the real world cup. There is a mode to become the captain of your country where an individual player goes through training and matches competing against other team members to become captain. Road to Rio de Janeiro allows players to compete in an online tournament across the 12 venues of the cup. There are various kill games and both offline and online multiplayer matches are supported. EA Talk Radio offers a selection of duos that provide commentary for matches. Despite extensive borrowing from FIFA 14, there are also a number of changes. There are for instance new and additional animations for the players and the crowds have various details and attributes that refer to the countries' teams and colours. The appearance of the real coaches has been simulated and the game often cuts away to scenes of fans celebrating at home. The defense AI has been made looser, making it easier to break through. It also has become much more viable to launch long distance shots as there is a much higher chance of scoring than usual, leading to more spectacular goals. The keepers however have received an ability boost and will prevent scores from getting out of hand. Penalties have been made easier to perform, but keepers have more options to distract the strikers. Scoring from corners has been made harder as defenders will now jump up and will prevent attackers from cutting in unobstructed. This also applies to crosses that are now more often intercepted and headers feel less overpowered compared to previous titles. Other gameplay changes affect dribbling, an increased accuracy in passing and first-touch mechanics. Overall, the game mechanics have been made more accessible.

Age of Adventure

Age of Adventure

Apple II - Released - July 31, 1986

Billed as "the greatest adventures in history," this game was actually two games in one: The Return of Heracles and Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves. Both games are somewhat similarly constructed, as they were built on an engine that is a precursor to Stuart Smith's Adventure Construction Set. Control multiple characters via a top-down perspective on various quests throughout the mythological past. Find items, increase your stats, battle monsters, and explore the land in these turn-based RPGs. Both games feature a cooperative component that lets any number of players play together, simply by dividing up the available characters.

Age of Adventure

Age of Adventure

Atari 800 - Released - 1986

Age of Adventure is a combo pack of two previous Stuart Smith games, Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, and Return of Heracles. In both games you control a top-down view player character and move it around the screen with a joystick (in Return of Heracles, you also have a pet dog to control). Game play is turn based with a certain number of actions in each turn. Maps are much larger than a screen and are revealed as explored. In multiplayer games players can control multiple characters on alternate turns (unusually, with almost any number of players). Control and view behavior were predecessors to many other similar games that game later, for instance the SSI Gold Box series. The engine used for these games was later enhanced to build the 8-bit Adventure Construction Set, also by Smith. In the Atari version, Age of Adventure has a feature to set the speed of Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, the only release in which this is possible. Versions were also available for the Apple II, and Commodore 64.

Alice: Madness Returns

Alice: Madness Returns

Windows - Released - June 14, 2011

Alice Liddell, believing herself responsible for a fire that consumed her home and her family, escapes into a twisted version of Wonderland. While held at Rutledge Asylum for treatment, Alice was able to conquer her doubts, and eventually was released from the ward. Madness Returns takes place in 1875, a year after Alice's release. Alice, now 19 years old, resides at an orphanage in Victorian London, under the care of Dr. Angus Bumby, a psychiatrist who uses hypnosis to help his child patients forget their memories. Though she believes that she is fine, Alice still suffers from hallucinations of Wonderland. Within the corrupted Wonderland, Alice attempts to learn more from Wonderland's various citizens, including the Duchess, the Mad Hatter, the Mock Turtle, the Walrus and the Carpenter, and the Caterpillar. She is ultimately told that the Queen of Hearts still lives despite her defeat at Alice's hands before, though in a diminished capacity. At the Queen's castle, Alice discovers the Queen's true form, which resembles her younger self. The Queen reveals that an entity called the Dollmaker has taken over the Infernal Train and is corrupting Wonderland.

Alice: Madness Returns

Alice: Madness Returns

Sony Playstation 3 - Released - June 14, 2011

The events of Alice: Madness Returns begin where the previous game American McGee's Alice left off: desperately struggling with her own mind, Alice is now in an establishment for children with psychological problems, and memories of her whole family dying in the fire haunt her. Now another threat - which appears as a giant train - seeks to destroy her Wonderland. Alice will battle through stages to stop the train and find out its true meaning. There are five large chapters in Wonderland, each with different themes and different types of enemies. The gameplay can be described as 50% platform-jumping and 50% hack-and-slash combat. Unlike the previous game, the emphasis is on fighting with melee weapons, although there are also means (and necessity) to shoot enemies. Melee attacks are strung together with a vorpal blade (quick attacks) or a toy horse (slower, but more powerful and able to break through enemy defenses), and a pepper grinder or tea cannon is used for ranged attacks. The grinder has a cooldown time and can also be used to activate switches from a distance. Alice has a timed bomb as well and can dodge incoming attacks by briefly turning into a cloud of butterflies. A focus mode can be triggered to keep a specific enemy in view and in this mode Alice can deploy an umbrella to reflect incoming projectiles. When she is low on health, a monochrome hysteria mode can be triggered where much more damage is dealt and Alice can harvest enemies for health instead of teeth, the main currency left behind by enemies. For the many platform sections, she can triple jump in the air and glide down. During her travels, Alice will visit both XIXth century London and imaginary worlds. One of the novelties of the game is Alice's ability to shrink herself anytime, allowing her to enter small pathways and detect otherwise virtually invisible platforms and objects. It is also used to receive clues about the next goal. From time to time, players need to complete various mini-games, such as a 2D side-scrolling platformer, a rolling ball game in both 2D and 3D, and side-scrolling levels with a submarine. Some characters from the previous game make their appearance here, and the game also introduces several new creatures from Lewis Carroll's novels. It is a single-player game only. Alice's weapons are upgradable three times with new abilities and stronger attacks, by using teeth that she collects on her journey. A total number of roses that stand for Alice's health bar can also be increased by finding and completing special challenges called 'radula rooms' and by solving Cheshire Cat's riddles. There are a lot of hidden objects to find, such as various memories and bottles; collecting them will unlock certain galleries in the game's menu. A New Game+ option with increased difficulty is available once the game is completed.

Amnesia

Amnesia

Apple II - 1986

The protagonist wakes up in a hotel room in midtown Manhattan with no clothes and no money, and what is worse, no memory. Soon he discovers that some man wants to kill him and he is wanted for murder in Texas. Now his quest is to find out what exactly is going on, who he is and how to set things right. The defining feature of Amnesia is the inclusion of the whole of Manhattan, more specifically about 4000 separate locations, 650 streets and the subway system. For this reason the original package includes a map and the "X-Street Indexer" (a code wheel for finding the nearest cross street when aligning the avenue name with the street address number), so that the player can find his way. The game also simulates the time of day which, for example, means that stores close and open at the correct time. Most puzzles are inventory or conversation-based and it is often required to be at right place at the right time. Additionally the player needs to take care about surviving, so he needs to take jobs to earn money, buy food and find shelter at night. This is represented by the score which is divided into three parts: detective (plot advancement), character (how he interacts with Manhattan's citizens) and survivor.

The sequel to Archon, Archon II: Adept features a more complex board and enhanced gameplay. Each side plays as an Adept - a powerful wizard with the ability to cast spells against other Adepts and his summonings - and must defeat the other side, either Chaos or Order, by attacking him/her with summoned Elementals or Demons. Each side can summon 4 unique elementals at a time or choose from 4 demons, common to both. Gameplay is similar to the original, reminiscent of a chess-like board game, requiring strategy, but with arcade elements, especially when two adepts confront each other face-to-face. The board also shifts from time to time, making the strategy less predictable.

Atari 800 - Released - 1983

The goal of the game is either to take control of five power points located on the board, to eliminate all the opposing pieces, or to eliminate all but one remaining imprisoned piece of the opponent's. While the board is similar to a chessboard, and the various pieces are similarly designed to have various offsetting abilities, when one piece attempts to take another, the removal of the targeted piece is not automatic. Instead, the two pieces are placed into a full-screen 'combat arena' and must battle (action-style, with the players running the pieces) to determine who takes the square.

If the real-time combat takes place on a dark square, the dark monster gets a health bonus (longer life bar). On a light square the light side gains an advantage. There are also some squares whose color changes over time (from afternoon, to dusk, to night, to dawn etc.), which adds an extra layer of strategy to the game. Unlike chess the two sides are not identical. Both sides consist of mythological creatures. For example the light side has among others unicorns, valkyries and a djinni while the dark side features basilisks, banshees and manticores. The differences are not just cosmetic. Two special pieces are the light wizard & the dark sorceress, they can both cast magical spells like: imprison a unit on the board, shift the flow of time (change day/night cycle to your advantage), bring one unit back from the dead etc. The different pieces have their own movement restrictions regarding the number of squares they're allowed to travel on the board and whether or not they can jump over other units (like the knight in chess). Units also behave different in combat; some units are faster than others, some use melee attacks while others fire projectiles.

Arena Football

Arena Football

Sony Playstation 2 - Released - February 7, 2006

Arena Football is a simulation of the sport of the same name. It shares many similarities with the Madden Series, whose engine it uses, but has a different play-style thanks to Arena football's rather different rules. The game is played indoors with teams of eight on a 50-yard field and the sidelines and uprights have barriers to make balls that would go out of bounds in standard American football bounce back into the play field. It is still considered live at this point. Obviously, this makes the game much faster-paced and higher-scoring. Features include a coach's pick which will recommend plays, a telemetry view, which lets you see how tired both your players and the opposing ones are along with passing routes so you can set good match-ups, a quick play mode, a season mode, which allows you to go up to 20 seasons and trade players, set salaries, etc, practice and online play. Arena Football is officially licensed by the Arena Football League and includes all the teams and players from the 2006 season. New Orleans VooDoo is not included as they sat this season out due to hurricane Katrina, though their logo is available to use for created teams. Numerous historic teams are also available.

Armies of Exigo

Armies of Exigo

Windows - Released - November 30, 2004

Armies of Exigo is another RPS (RTS-RPG hybrid) in the tradition of Warcraft III. The land of Men is threatened by a bestial force returning after having been soundly defeated. The elders fail to read the signs of impending doom, and only a young hero who is granted leadership of the council heeds the prophecy that foretold this conflict. This is more or less the story of the game. There are three different sides in Armies of Exigo, with the third joining the fray later in the campaign. The game offers quite a few interesting features, such as travelling in and exploring underground passages, the ability to form "supergroups" comprised of several traditional squads assigned to numbers.

Army of Two

Army of Two

Sony Playstation 3 - Released - March 4, 2008

Tyson Rios and Elliot Salem are two ex Army Rangers turned contractors for SSC, a Private Military Corporation. They embark on missions ranging from the caves of Afghanistan all the way to abandoned villages of China. Mission after mission, they realize that the wonderful life of a PMC at SSC might not be as clean as they thought it was is. Army of Two focuses on gameplay centered around cooperative two man missions and customizable weapons. The arsenal includes pistols, shotguns, submachine guns, rocket launchers, light machine guns, sniper rifles, grenade launchers and assault rifles. Players are able to modify these with extra magazines and new barrels, suppressors, grip handles and different plates that only change the look. The player fights alongside either a live or AI team mate using two man strategies as the deadliest military outfit a government can buy. Players can lift each other up ledges, heal, cover each other's backs, combine driving a vehicle and shooting, feign death, swap weapons, protect each other with shields, perform dual parachute jumps and go "aggro" to attack the enemy's attention. The multiplayer mode is available for four players, operating in two teams based on the co-op structure of the single-player game. Players need to complete objectives divided over three modes - Warzone, Bounties and Extraction - while dealing with the opposing team at the same time.

Army of Two

Microsoft Xbox 360 - March 4, 2008

Focusing on cooperative strategies, Army of Two's main feature is the necessity to use coordinated teamwork to accomplish the game's goals. While the game is meant to be played with another human as a partner, a "Partner Artificial Intelligence" (PAI) is also included and programmed to follow the player's strategies. Dependence on a partner (whether human or PAI) is so pronounced that most objectives are impossible to complete without it.

Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel

Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel

Sony Playstation 3 - Released - March 26, 2013

Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel is the third installment of the third-person shooter Army of Two series. In this game, players stray away from the protagonists in the first two games, Salem and Rios, and play as two different Tactical Worldwide Operations (T.W.O.) operatives, Alpha and Bravo. Alpha and Bravo are hired by a Mexican Mayor by the name of Cordova, who hires the two to take down the ruthless drug cartel La Guadana and its leader, Estaban Bautista. The game, as with its predecessors, revolves around its co-op play. There is now less focus on two-player interactions to approach situations and more on regular shootouts. In addition to its already established cooperative base, this installment adds much more customization. Masks, gear, and weapons are all now customizable to tailor to the preferences of the player. The new destructible environment also adds a new aspect to the game, where players can destroy and manipulate the environment around them to their own advantage. The scoring system is based on the kills and rewarded with cash, which also acts as experience. Based on the chosen approach different rewards can be earned. Killing enemies also fills an Overkill gauge. Once full, a mode can be activated where the character for a short time becomes invulnerable with unlimited ammo, slowed down time and more damage. Overkill can be applied to a single character or to both.

Battle for Middle Earth II: The Witch King

Windows - November 28, 2006

The campaign allows the player to command the army of Angmar from its foundation and early attacks against Arnor, to the destruction of Arnor at the battle of Fornost. An epilogue mission allows the player to command the forces of Gondor and the Elves as they invade Angmar in retaliation for destroying Arnor. The story for The Rise of the Witch-king draws a great deal upon the Appendices at the end of the Return of the King to form a basis for the conflict between Arnor and Angmar. Many of the notes that Tolkien made regarding the war are used as missions in the games campaign and epilogue. Although the game closely follows Tolkien's writing, some events are modified to suit the gameplay (such as the palantír of Amon Sûl being destroyed rather than brought to safety at Fornost), or are omitted altogether (such as the flight of King Arvedui from the defeat at Fornost).
