Bloody Bride: Imodoki no Vampire

Bloody Bride: Imodoki no Vampire

Sony Playstation - Released - December 27, 1996

The game features a young vampire who reaches (vampire's) adulthood. But in order to become mature he must suck the blood of a girl with a "platinum aura", this task is harder than it may look, once the girl must willingly let him suck her blood. The young vampire is sent to the human world in order to find a girl with that aura, having 3 years to complete that task. As a vampire, the boy must wander at night in order to find common girl and suck their blood, although he will usually find monsters with whom he'll fight in order to help him reach his adulthood. The game is very stat-intensive. In between scheduling dates, you will have to manage your stats and try to increase them. Stats serve both to make you more effective in combat like all RPGs, as well as to make you a more ideal mate. In order to drink a girl's blood with her consent, you're going to have to win her heart first. This involves doing any number of things you would do in any other dating simulation, all of which are given their own unexpected twists, thanks to the fact that you must keep your identity as a vampire a secret at all times. It's easy to forget your own weaknesses, so careful planning must be made in order to avoid potential problems. At an amusement park, for example, taking your girl to the house of mirrors would lead to a small disaster. A roller coaster ride would be a much safer option. While making these decisions, you must also maintain good hygiene, keep careful tabs on other potential victims, and find enough time to stalk the streets at night. Yes, being a vampire is more than about sucking blood -- it's also about effective time management. There is a full English translation patch available for Bloody Bride, making the game playable from beginning to end for non-Japanese speakers. There are 5 different game endings.

Class of Heroes

Class of Heroes

Sony PSP - Released - June 9, 2009

Why did they appear? What were they created for? The answer still eludes us. What we do know, is that the mysterious labyrinths appeared decades ago, and with them, the world was changed forever. Their true form unknown and ever-changing, they sprawl across the world like a web, connecting towns and villages, mountains, lakes, and deserts. Many adventurers delved into these labyrinths dreaming of riches, and those fortunate enough to return did so with tales and treasures untold. It was only natural that the children of our world began to look upon these heroes with their unconditional admiration. And as they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Here at our campus, we strive to equip young men and women with the tools they’ll need to become full-fledged adventurers. To all the bright-eyed students stepping through our gates for their first term: Welcome. We hope your studies here are as enriching and productive as you’ve dreamed they would be. -Principal Feinman

Soul Hackers is similar in its themes, structure and gameplay to its predecessor, as well as to the main Shin Megami Tensei series. Set in a futuristic cyberpunk environment, the game contains many characteristic elements such as two weapon types (swords and guns) for the main hero, a female companion who can learn and cast magic spells, and a party of six active combatants, of which four are demons. Like in many other Megami Tensei games, the player can communicate with randomly encountered demons and recruit them into the party by selecting appropriate dialogue choices. These demons can also be fused with each other to create more powerful ones.

Depending on the character and attack selected, the player will be able to deal damage to a specific enemy unit or a designated region of the map. Combat ends when all enemy units or all of the player's units are destroyed. Humanoid characters may lift and throw other units across the map in order to allow allies to move further or force enemies to keep their distance. This even allows the player to capture enemies by throwing them into the base panel; these enemies then become allies, and can be used on subsequent maps. DonPachi

DonPachi

Sony Playstation - Released - October 18, 1996

This game is a port of the Arcade game of the same name and was released only in Japan. The game's premises differ somewhat by most of its brethren: the player assumes the role of a pilot whose mission is to actually survive an eight years long training mission, where he/she is supposed to prove his/her worth as a fighter and gain entry to the future elite squadron known as the DonPachi Squadron - which is featured prominently throughout the entire series. The twist lies in the fact that the enemies are, in truth, the player's very own comrades, posing as enemies and sacrificing their lives for the sake of allowing only the most skilled pilots to pass the test, and survive. The player flies their selected fighter over 5 areas of various terrain, encountering a number of land, sea and air enemies. The player's ship has two modes of fire: by tapping the fire button, shots are fired; holding it down produces a concentrated vertical beam, but also reduces the ship's speed.

The game consists of 43 pre-rendered levels and 12 boss characters, all of which are various forms of machinery, from Blast Furnace Bill to Rotato the Repair Robot. Items to look out for are paper airplanes (they'll give you information or clues), donuts to replenish any damage, coins to give you extra lives and fans to cool you down. After all, moving through a hot steel factory can be especially dangerous to an egg. The game automatically saves your progress to memory card, so keep moving and save that factory! The most notable feature of the game is the number of impressive CG cinemas that play constantly throughout your adventure. If you fall off an edge, you'll see Charlie do a Humpty Dumpty impression, and if you make it to the next level by punching the last time clock, a transition scene will play.

Eithea

Eithea

Sony Playstation - Released - February 22, 2001

Eithéa describes the world to which a group of high school students and their teacher is whisked away. The player takes the role of Shou, age 17, and the lone male in this motley party. Among the various females who surround Shou every waking moment are close friend Yuka, quiet transfer student Hikaru, and English teacher Akiho. The story begins as the hero, Shou Nimi, and his friends say goodbye to a classmate who's about to change schools. Suddenly, the world turns upside down and five students and their teacher find that they're now stuck in another world, Eithéa. Supported by the power of its sacred trees, Eithéa's history is one of conflict, as the nature-loving Moonlight clan butts heads with the technologically gifted Fire Dragon clan. A third clan, the Night Dreamers, stays hidden in the deep forests. Soon after arriving in the strange world, they meet the huntress Ruu, and they immediately run about in search of a way home, all the while performing the obligatory mini-story arcs. With all of these female characters surrounding the male protagonist, Eithea makes the relationships built between Shou and his female companions an important factor in the game's battle system. Responding with the correct dialogue choices raises the character's Latent Ability Voltage (LAV), making her more capable in battle and contributing to the defense of the party. For those with little knowledge of Japanese, be prepared to save and reset often if you want to raise LAV as high as possible. The other pillar of the battle system is TIP. These strange silver or gold balls are dropped by enemies and are absolutely necessary for battle. Projectile weapons need them to operate, and as said before five out of seven playable characters shoot enemies from a distance. The game's magical artifacts, the Artia, require TIP in order to create usable magic spells.
