Baccarat

Baccarat

Dragon 32/64 - Released - 1983

Baccarat is a card game normally played by the rich and famous as well as James Bond in the elegant atmosphere of the most exclusive casinos in the world. This computer version was programmed by M Turley for Cable Software. The objective of the game is to score nearest to 9 with 2 or 3 cards. 10's and court cards count as 0, with other cards their pip value. Three decks are used and shuffled together, so it is possible to draw and even hold in any one hand the same card up to three times during a game. This computer version of Baccarat allows up to three players to compete against the Banker. The Bank offers a stake at the beginning of each hand, and Banco is called by the player accepting it, with Player 1 having first refusal. A player without enough money cannot call Banco (a beep sounds if tried). Players could, as a team, try to break the Bank, or play competitively for the highest score.

Blade the Warrior

Blade the Warrior

Sinclair ZX Spectrum - Released - 1984

Not to be confused with Blade Warrior from CodeMasters, Blade the Warrior is a text adventure game written by British author Shaun Watts and published by Cable Software in 1984 for the ZX Spectrum. The fantasy themed game tells of a quest to slay an evil witch. It was Cable's first title to be released and was well received upon its release. Game plot: The game is set in a sword and sorcery setting, where the titular protagonist Blade the Warrior embarks on a quest to destroy the evil Black Witch and thus liberate the far-north land of Sayell that she rules over. Blade needs to follow the trail of Mazar the Wizard, who went on the same mission many months ago and did not return. Along the way, Blade fights against the Black Witch's monstrous minions while looking for enough magic to survive the witch's spells and defeat her, and hopefully save Mazar too.

Kurukuru Chameleon

Kurukuru Chameleon

Arcade - 2006

Kuru Kuru Chameleon (くるくる カメレオン) is a 2006 puzzle game by Starfish for the Sega NAOMI GD-ROM arcade platform. It is thought to have been released exclusively in Japan. Kuru Kuru Chameleon is an altered remake of 7 Colors, an IBM PC/Amiga/Atari ST game developed by Gamos and published by Infogrames in 1991. The following year 7 Colors was brought to the PC-98 by HOT-B as The 7 Colors - Kuru Kuru Chameleon derives on this version, as Starfish bought HOT-B and its assets in 1993. Though the rules between the two games are similar, 7 Colors deals in diamonds, while Kuru Kuru Chameleon uses hexagons. Starfish released Kuru Kuru Chameleon for the PlayStation Portable at around the same time as the arcade version. It was localised as Kameleon for PAL regions later in the year, and as Chameleon in North America in 2008. A Nintendo DS version, Kuru Kuru Chameleon DS released in October 2006 was also localised, again as Kameleon in PAL regions, but as Chameleon: To Dye For! in North America. The European versions were published by 505 Games and the American versions by UFO.

Zak'sSon

Zak'sSon

Dragon 32/64 - Released - 1984

With a name like that, what can one expect, save an isometric shooter with heavy Zaxxon influences? Yet, even though Zak's Son makes no attempt to hide its influences, it doesn't slavishly mimic its role model. Unlike Zaxxon, you are flying a helicopter, and this game entirely lacks the concept of height above ground. Any shots fired will hit whatever it crosses, be it on ground or airbourne. You also have your fuel level to keep an eye on. By shooting canisters marked with an F, you replenish your dwindling fuel supply. Failure to do so results in game over, and so does the loss of your three lives. The game plays entirely in black and white high resolution mode.
