10 Flights of Ballooning

Windows - Released - April 19, 2017

10 Flights of Ballooning is a cornucopia of games based on the Balloon Trip mode in the original Balloon Fight. Relish in discovering the different flavors of games. What ingredients can be added, subtracted, substituted, etc. to the original recipe? What are the resulting dishes? I don't know about you, but I'm hungry. Enjoy! Serious stuff: This was made in a graduate class based on Pippin Barr's 2016 IndieCade East talk, "36 Reasons to Make the Same Game 36 Times." 10 Flights works on PC and Mac OSX. You can use a keyboard, a DualShock 4 controller, or whatever Xbox controller you have (tested with Xbox One and Xbox 360). There's a readme in there with more info, but I strongly suggest you just boot up the game and play and have a good time. The credits are in the secret game. Try to unlock them and see all the people I thanked!

You may notice that some of these projects are already available for free on my page. That is no mistake! This package will have all my games as they were completed when I was working through my game-a-week journey. The games I've chosen to upload separately might receive updates in the future, and some already have. This bundle is an honest record of my successes and failures. I've also decided to charge for this, as truthfully there was a lot of labor put into these projects. If you're not interested in strange and possibly broken games, check out my page for finished works. But if you do, I hope they can bring you as much joy as they've brought me :)

96

Windows - Released - November 15, 2020

Leaving something behind is a hard task, Niles knows it all too well. When a stranger disturbs his peaceful everyday life and routine, he has no choice but to face the past and make some life-changing decisions. Yet, it keeps on beckoning him. 96 is a short, story-driven horror-esque LGBT+ game. It is set in a small, post-apocalyptic island that has long been left in shambles by an unknown ailment. It was made in RPG Maker MV, but it is more akin to a visual novel game/walking simulator game than an rpg. As such, the narration is prioritized over the gameplay. It is by no means a game suited for a younger audience, please be aware of that. If you'd like to know more about the game (beware of spoilers), we had some lovely people write articles about it! Free Game Planet: https://www.freegameplanet.com/96-download-game/ 5mg Site: https://www.5mgsite.com/post/96-an-narrative-driven-adventure-where-you-must-tak... Warp Door: http://warpdoor.com/2021/03/10/96/ Please do check them out if you're interested! :) Or, if you'd rather watch someone else play it, AlphaBetaGamer made an awesome video on our game! Hi everyone, this is our first game, we hope you’ll like it. It was made in two months, so please keep that in mind. There are no (or very little) custom assets as the challenge was to tell a story with pre-made assets. None of us are native speakers and we apologize for any mistake. Please feel free to contact us if you would like to proofread the game officially. TW : the game is quite dark and heavy and was made with an adult audience in mind, so please be careful.

All of the original songs (which include vocals for the most part) are available for free on YouTube, in addition to Spotify and various other digital music markets. While mostly electronic, it contains instruments such as grand piano, acoustic guitar, vocals, with several additions by guest musicians (cello, violin, trumpet, e-bass, and many more). Most songs can probably be categorized as chill/downtempo, and revolve around dark/depressing themes, with a few rays of hope every now and then. AcChen

AcChen

Windows - Released - January 27, 2020

AcChen is a simple to learn, arcade style 'find the matching tile' game. Master the 60 different level and various bonus maps in the single player campaign. Unlock new levels by beating the clock or play in 'chill mode' without any pressure: no timer, no score, just happy tile hunting (but also no level unlocking). Feature list fast arcade style 'find the matching tile' game two game modes: arcade and 'chill' mode 60 levels + various bonus maps 3 different bonus level types: fill the board, spot the match, find the match three relaxing soundtracks Rules Clear the board by finding two items with identical symbols. The tiles will disappear when you can 'connect' them with a line, which has two or less corners ( right angles ) in it and no other part is blocking the way. Advance to the next level by clearing the board. If you run out of time before you finish a map, you lose. A map can contain tiles in up to 3 layers. You might combine tiles of different layers. If you pick one tile from the top layer and one from the bottom layer, only tiles on the top layer block the way. In general: if you pick items from different layers, the uppermost selected items layer is used for the search algorithm. Sounds difficult, but if you give it a try, you will figure in no time... ;) Tiles with the same symbol might be located on top of each other. So the fastest pick is not always the best. Bonus Level Every 3rd level you play is a bonus level. There are three different types of bonus level: 1.) You start with 4 tiles and have to fill up the map. Every time you remove a pair, 4 new tiles will appear. 2.) Two visible tiles swap its places quickly for several times. Spot the last position. 3.) Classic 'find a matching pair' on the turned deck. If you manage to complete a bonus level, you receive a 100 point bonus. If the time runs out, you advance to the next level. After finishing a bonus level, you receive an extra Hint-Item (see below). If you are not up for bonuses, you can skip the bonus level. Special Items Solid Tiles Solid tiles cannot be removed. Yin Yang If you pick a pair of Yin Yang, the next picked symbol will disappear from the current map. If the Yin Yang is the last pair you pick, you can use this special on the next map. Time Bonus Item From time to time, animated hourglasses appear on a symbol for a few seconds. If you manage to remove this item, you receive 15 extra seconds. Hint Item If you need a hint during the game, tap the Hint Item. If available, a matching pair will be selected. It will disappear if you tap on it. After finishing a Bonus Level, you receive an extra Hint Item. You can collect up to 3 Hint Items. Scoring The first successful pick scores 0 points. The next pick within 3 seconds, scores 4 points, within 5 seconds 2 point. After finishing a level, the remaining time is added to your score. High score and Achievements AcChen uses Steams Leaderboard - you can share your score with players around the world. Discover the 8 unlock-able achievements. Game History In the early 90s, I played a game called 'Match It' at the local Arcade - I spent quite some coins on it :o. A few years later, three friends and me picked up the game mechanics. We coded a version for the Atari ST and Amiga. The game-play was extended in many ways. It was released under the name 'Sarakon'. The game was programmed in 68k assembler. After I got a NEXTSTATION I did rewrite the game and released it under the name AcChen. Over the time I did also port it to the NintendoDS, iOS and OSX. Note that there is a Steam , iOS and OSX version that supports online highscores and achievements.

AdventNEON

AdventNEON

Windows - Released - August 29, 2019

Hyperactive 2D action platformer made by just me! Punch robot cops while double-dashing and comboing them at lightspeed. When you think they've got the drop on you? Dash through them to freeze time, run circles around them, and wind up a satisfying counterattack! Once you hit 100% of your power, transform and show everyone how unstoppable you truly are! AdventNEON's got a focus on vibrancy, responsiveness and freedom. You've got simple, tight (and remappable!) inputs, fluid and versatile movement options and extremely fast combat to allow you to jump around and beat down however the heck you want. My goal is for the game itself to be so fun that you'd be willing to open it up just to screw around in the hub world. I.e. the game I'd want to play when other games just aren't cutting it for me at the time. It takes a ton of inspirations from all the games and characters I enjoyed growing up, so you might notice some of that here! You're put into the shoes of Neon, a special android with the ability to harness Resonance energy and rapidly scale in power. The harder the beatdown Neon dishes out, the stronger they become, until they're a nigh unstoppable snowball of devastation. The catch? Neon can't maintain this power when getting hit, nor can they take a lot of hits in general. Neon is incredibly fast and powerful, but can only maintain that extreme potential when they're avoiding damage and continuously dishing it out. If you can fully maintain the flow of Resonance though, you'll transform, and be able to let loose 100% of your power! Become faster, stronger, brighter, meaner and greener as everything in your path struggles to keep pace with you in this form. Like Celeste? You can use its dash twice! Go nuts. Avoid everything. Counterattack through your enemies. Heck, wavedash jump cancel™ if you want. Enjoy platform fighters? Neon's got a fully fleshed out directional moveset, along with the ability to send enemies offscreen to KO them with a satisfying explosion! Combat lets you cancel virtually everything into everything else! Make your own combos! Hit, stun and run! Start up that combo with a dash! Unleash a barrage of punches and stop time like it's a [redacted] reference! Fake out enemies with repeated dashes! Teleport behind the enemy and end them with a powerful Break attack! You don't need to remember any optimal combo routes or buttons; just hit and don't get hit and you'll win regardless of your playstyle! DEFAULT CONTROLS/SETTINGS Remap them in the options menu. [Action]: [Keyboard input] -- [Gamepad input] Move: WSAD/Arrows -- Left Stick/D-Pad Jump: Space/C -- Bottom Face/Left Bumper Punch: P/Z -- Left Face/Right Face + Direction Dash: O/X -- Top Face/Right Bumper + Direction Break Attack: Hold Dash + Press Punch + Direction (Can also be done with the Right Stick on Gamepad.) "Tap up to Jump" can be set. Gamepad Stick Deadzone can be set between 10% and 85% of the gate radius. To ensure your gamepad controls are working, you can open a Visualizer for your inputs by going to Options - Video - Display Inputs. These show the real time inputs from your controller regardless of what's happening in the game.

Alien Storm

Commodore 128 - Homebrew - October 12, 2020

This game is a “remake” of the Space Invaders (スペースインベーダー) game developed by Tomohiro Nishikado and released in 1978. It was originally manufactured by Taito in Japan, and it was later licensed for United States by the Midway division of Bally. To play with a single player you need to press the “1” key. To play with two players, press the “2” key. To start playing you need to insert coins. Use the “C” key on the keyboard to add 1 credit. This makes it possible to play with one player. Otherwise, by pressing the C key again, it will be possible to have two credits and play with two players. The players take turns, the first player first, and when their lives are finished, the second player enters. The game mode is simple: the player controls a mobile cannon that moves horizontally on the bottom of the screen, and must take down one by one the aliens that slowly approach the Earth. The approaching stages of the aliens to the World follow a unique pattern, a wide and orderly zig-zag that leads them slowly, but surely, to reach the bottom of the screen. When they reach the bottom side, the invasion is complete and the game ends. To move the cannon you need to use the joystick or the keyboard. To move the cannon to the left push the joystick to left or press the “A” key. To move cannon to the right, move the joystick to the right or press the “D” key. To shoot you need to use the fire buttor or “space” key. The player defends the Earth by facing hordes of aliens that follow each other incessantly with his cannon (one wave is exterminated, another one falls immediately). In the upper area of the screen, some “Mystery Ships” scroll from time to time, ie bonus ships that, if shot down, allow the player to increase his score much faster. The game ends when the aliens reach the bottom of the screen or when the cannon is destroyed. The cannon can be destroyed by enemy fire. They are “rays” that are periodically launched by the aliens towards the cannon. The cannon is partially protected by some immobile defensive bunkers which are gradually destroyed by the projectiles of the aliens or by the shots fired by the player himself. The player has three movable cannons (three lives or more depending on the settings), after the destruction of which the game ends. The player has an unlimited number of bullets but he/she can only fire one shot at a time. As the aliens are destroyed, the remaining ones move faster across the screen. The soundtrack - composed only of a series of tones - follows the ever-increasing rhythm of the game.

Command their armies in a story of opposite opinions, sacrifices for one’s beliefs, and the quest for a greater goal. Here no one’s completely in the wrong, but no one’s completely in the right. In the world of Attrition, armies are simple, consisting only of troops armed with obsolete rifles, and not always having the capacity to move around with ease. A pair of dice controls how far an army can go, so commanders must adjust to every situation and get the most out of the terrain they’re fighting in. Here the lucky have the advantage, but the better strategist comes out victorious.

BAT ‘N’ BALL is a Breakout / Arkanoid style game with something new to mix it all up a bit! A 50 level brick-busting bonanza with 100 screens, bonus levels and big scary bosses! As well as the well-known originals you will find completely new power-ups, including powerful cannons, a nuclear blast, and just to mess with your head a little, a power-up that makes all the bricks invisible. Not all of the bricks in Bat n Ball are what they seem. Some turn out to be alien creatures that get angry and launch themselves at you when hit by the ball. Some contain extra balls themselves to give you a helping hand. Then there are bombs to clear those bricks faster and bonus bubbles to boost your score and give you bonus lives. Screens come in different shapes and sizes. Just as you get into a rhythm of left, right, bat the ball, the screen is flipped onto it’s side testing your skills to the max. No problem for you? Then let’s open up the screen at the top too! Now you have two bats to control to stop that ball escaping! Can you keep a cool head when the bricks start moving down the screen at you, when teleports zap the ball from one side of the screen to the other and when floor mounted disruptors and mysterious shifting shapes suddenly change the trajectory of the ball? Survive all that without breaking a sweat and you are truly a master of Bat 'n' Ball!

Bringris

Windows - Released - October 15, 2020

What's the goal? Just like in classic falling block games such as Tetris or Blockout, fill the levels -- once a whole level (30 cubes) is filled, it disappears. Try to fill as many levels as you can! How to move? wasd to move, space to drop by one level, Enter to drop (you can still move after this -- press Enter twice if you don't want to move anymore), hold Shift to display cubes missing from the levels below. Press 'p' to pause or see the main menu. Can I move the camera freely? While in pause/main menu, click "explore". You can then use mouse/arrows and PageUp/PageDown to freely explore the structure you have built. Do this, the views are AMAZING! How to rotate? There is no key to rotate, but since this game uses non-Euclidean geometry, there is no need! Just find a pentagon with five right angles and move along its edges. (If you change the geometry, a special key for rotation may be necessary -- 'q' and 'e' are used for this purpose.) How to rotate vertically? This game takes place in non-isotropic space -- the 'Z' coordinate works differently than the 'XY' plane (which has hyperbolic geometry). Intuitively, parallel lines in the XY plane diverge, while vertical lines 'stay parallel'. This means that vertical rotation makes no mathematical sense -- the distance between the points would change (when rotating around Y axis, points on the XY plane would become closer after the rotation, while points on the YZ plane would become more distant). (You can change the geometry to one where vertical rotation makes sense, but it is still not allowed for consistency.) But what if you tried to rotate it vertically? That's a good question! We do not know if anyone knows. It seems a good research question. It is likely that they would resist rotation, just like the springs in our world resist changing their shape. Why do cubes appear thin when viewed from a distance? In hyperbolic geometry, parallel lines diverge, so things become small with distance much faster than in Euclidean. Since our space is non-isotropic (hyperbolic in XY and Euclidean in YZ), this makes them thinner, but not shorter. Are the edges of the cubes straight lines? Yes -- more formally, they are geodesics. It is clear when the camera is positioned right above them. In other positions it may not look so because of non-isotropy (see the last answer). Why Bringris? The "flat level" is a manifold called Bring's surface or Bring's curve, related to the small stellated dodecahedron. Why is this particular geometry and topology used? In the full hyperbolic space, higher levels would have more cubes, which does not seem to be a good design for this kind of game. The original plan was to use spherical geometry for levels, but that does not give many choices -- only the five platonic solids; cube (six squares per level which become cubes in 3D) is too small, and icosahedron (20 triangular prisms) and dodecahedron (12 pentagonal prisms) are very non-intuitive to navigate. Squares with 72 degree angles are the best, and Bring's surface is probably the smallest highly symmetric surface that can be tessellated with them. With 60-degree angles there is another surface (12 squares -- like a cube where every face is doubled and you move to the other copy after crossing every edge), but these squares are larger, and you could not rotate-by-movement (with right-angled hexagons you could only rotate-by-movement by 180 degrees). How is the expert mode different? In the normal game mode there is no time limit. In the expert mode, you get less and less time for placing the pieces, and also you get score based on how fast you are. Bringris works with VR! Bringris works with SteamVR! (In the Windows version) The game is probably best controlled with the keyboard rather than the VR controllers, but it is quite cool to explore in VR. You need a powerful graphics card, or change the settings (e.g. disable raycasting and/or reduce the number of iterations or cells to draw ). What engine does it use? It is created using the HyperRogue engine aka RogueViz. What pieces are available, and what are their frequencies? Every piece constructed of 1 to 4 "cubes" is available. The frequency f is calculated as follows: start with 1 multiply by the number of symmetries the piece has (identity, vertical, horizontal, vertical+horizontal) multiply by 2 for purely vertical pieces a single cube has frequency 1, not 8 After a piece is chosen, its frequency is multiplied by 1/2^(1/f). What are the differences between the download and the web version? The downloadable version has better performance, basic sound effects, and the settings can be saved. More questions? Visit the Bringris channel in the HyperRogue Discord! History and Credits 1.1: introduces alternate geometries, and fixes some bugs (sound effects, score counting). 1.2: more alternate geometries, minor bugfixes, more settings to configure 1.2b: bugfixes (secret geometries work and are secret (press kl), fixed crash after bounded well) 1.3: added non-orientable hyperbolic manifolds and orbifolds 1.4: nicer "pentagons" geometry; an option to disable flashes; fixed disabling the raycaster; works with VR; nicer wall texture 1.6: the issue of Bringris crashing on startup on some operating system (unless the "Vista compatibility mode" was on) should be fixed. Also updated the engine, but this should not have significant effects in Bringris (except the controllers shown on the desktop screen in VR). For some reason, it appears that, for some people, the game runs better with Thanks to Ann, Berenth...ehm...Cathbald, Christopher King, Marek14, Sir Light LJIJ, and VƧ for suggestions!

Bugs Inc.

Bugs Inc.

Commodore 64 - Homebrew - February 6, 2022

Welcome new member of the great Bugs Incorporated family. Your first mission will be to exterminate the giant worm pests called 'Giant malum cimex' and the spiders 'Aspersos maculis aranea giant'. Whose favorite food is the species of flowers 'Meridionali flos giant'. Each of these insects have a subspecies that is differentiated by the color of its pigmentation. The slowest being the green ones and the fastest being the red ones. Your main tool will be your Comm-0-do-re 64 sprayer, which will eliminate each of them effectively. If you press its button several times, the shooting cloud will rise, making it a more deadly insecticide, as well as reach places that previously seemed inaccessible. Castlevania Kyuketsuki no Kirachimu

Windows - Homebrew - February 12, 2022

"It's like any ol' caslteblainya.Actually,it's like every ol' castleblainya. 1,2, and 3 all mashed together.Minus the knockback, lying townsfolk, sprite limits, and it has blood all up in it.Get bloody enough and your whip gets super strong! That should help right? When in doubt, get bloody. The best and most hardcore way to bloody yourself up is to turn around and whip Drac's minions shinobi style. I didn't want to change it up too much. There's no supermoves or callin down meteors or nuthin'.This is straight up with a just lil' flare. One last thing, the stairs can be glitchy,or atleast sometimes make your characters animations glitchy, but it makes for some funny times.(i fixed the stairs in v 1.6)It doesn't effect gameplay. If it happens i'm sorry about it.Other than that, everything should play great!I play tested it quite a bit and also had my good friend test it.But to be honest,i'm not sure if it'll be too easy,or too tough for ya.I hope it's just right." -Mouse Spirit
