Arcshu: Kagerou no Jidai o Koete is loosely related to the greater Arcus series. It is a visual novel created in the parody style, and in the process hits many common pop culture items of the day (movies, novels, comics, animation, etc.). The story follows the main character, Jeda, through a series of still images and standard adventure-game puzzles and menu-based navigation as the player works through an overlying mystery. As the story progresses, Jeda finds that there is a hole in his dimension, and the only way to repair this hole is to travel through other dimensions (and time) to seek out a mystical holy sword and a group of CDs that will restore things to their proper nature. Throughout this journey, there are numerous cameos and other appearances by other Wolf Team and Nippon Telenet characters from various other media (The Valis Series, Midgarts, Final Zone, etc.). Musically, there are also numerous tracks that have been pulled from these same properties (and in some cases comically rearranged) and are used to good effect here.

The entire game, including towns and building interiors, is explored from a 3D third-person perspective; individual rooms and transitional areas are navigated in a point-and-click adventure game style. Battles play out in a semi-active fashion, with the player giving each character specific commands, which they will follow until instructed to do otherwise.

But Pikto knows that in order to preserve peace in the land, different races - elves, dwarves, humans - have to unite. He must find faithful companions, venture to dangerous places. and save the world once again! Arcus III returns to the traditional gameplay concept of the first game: the entire game plays from first-person view; pseudo-3D maze-like dungeons are home to randomly appearing enemies, which must be defeated in turn-based combat. Pikto and his companions can also learn a variety of magic spells.

To defeat the enemy, the warriors will call upon their individual magic powers: Jedda will wield his fire magic; Erin will harness the power of the wind; Diana will use her healing rays of light; and Bead will mimic the magic of the dark lords. They must not falter in their quest, or the diabolical Castomira will assume absolute power, and darkness will reign... forever.

A mysterious ancient artifact called "The Cube" has been unearthed in northern Russia. However, this strange object has fallen into the hands of a terrorist group called "Black Mask", who wish to use its powers for their own gain. The elite counterterrorist force UNSK (United Nations Security Keeper) has been sent in to recover The Cube before things get worse. Cybernetic Empire is a 3rd-person sci-fi action game. Controlling UNSK operatives Max Brougham and Nina Lebedeva, the player must infiltrate Black Mask's secret high-tech compound deep in northern Russia to recover The Cube and neutralize any threats. Each character begins with a standard-issue pistol but can also find other weapons like machine guns, sniper rifles, and rocket launchers. The game's most unique element is the Wire Tractor system, which allows the player to swing around at high speeds via a magnetic wire that can attach to most any surface, a-la Bionic Commando. It is also possible to climb directly on walls for a limited time, as well as recover items and information from downed enemy combatants.

D: Ōshū Shinkirō is a turn-based strategy war game set during the time of World War II. The player can select one of the available five scenarios: "Second Great European War" (that's the way the game calls what is usually referred to as World War II, 1939-1946), "World War" (1942-1946), "Invasion of Poland" (1939), "Operation Barbarossa" (invasion of Soviet Union, 1941), and "D-Day" (invasion of Normandy, 1944) The player can choose to control one of the following armies: Germany, England, USA, and Soviet Union (naturally, not all of them are available in each scenario). The player can compete against up to 3 computer opponents. Each scenario begins with a historical event that led to its existence; afterwards, the player is free to re-write or change history his/her own way. Beside the actual strategic war gameplay, the game also includes diplomacy options (such as asking another country for support, signing an agreement, etc.) Events occur as a result of the player's action (cities captured and destroyed, countries capitulating, etc.) The player moves the units over the top-down map; a battle occurs when the player's and enemy units are in proximity. Battles are displayed graphically, but evolve automatically, without the player's input. The player needs to calculate the amount, strength, and type of units (infantry, tank, planes, etc.), weighing the pros and contras of engaging the enemy to secure victory.

Goh is a turn-based military strategy game in which the player takes control of Japan during two decisive events of World War II: the attack on Pearl Harbor and the Battle of Midway. Any of these two scenarios can be selected from the main menu. The game focuses entirely on military tactics. Each turn consists of a preparatory and an active phase. During the first phase the player can opt to produce and assign aircraft to army units. The active phase involves tactically moving these units on a large-scale overhead world map, or choosing to attack any targets within the range of the planes.

The game's story is based on a mini-anime series, with extracts from the anime being used for cutscenes between the levels. The story centers on a man named Ryo, who begins working for a company called Yaesu as a replacement for his friend Masato. During a test ride with a new machine, however, he is somehow thrown into another dimension. After being rescued there by a group of mecha pilots from vile creatures named Devastators, he learns that nefarious people are working on a connection between that and his own dimension, and sets out to stop them. Devastator is a run & gun-style platformer with shoot-'em-up segments. The player controls a humanoid mech with a mid-range weapon, which can be described as a sickle on a chain, and one of three different long-range weapons. The goal in each level is simply to reach the end and defeat a boss. Most of levels consist of platforming, but sometimes the gameplay switches to a horizontally scrolling shoot-'em-up. Weapons can be upgraded by collecting items left by defeated enemies, similar to the Turrican games, but the protagonist may only have one long-range weapon; picking up another replaces the old one. There is only one type of standard upgrade item. To select a weapon, the player has to shoot the power-up until it shows the correct symbol.

Final Zone is an overhead run-'n-gun action game like Capcom's Commando, but it's not just that. The program contains an extensive story with lots and lots of dialog between each map. The game tells the story of the special forces team Black Cobra, on a mission to prevent a devastating missile attack from being launched. While the squad consists of five characters, the player is always in control of the leader, Harward Bowie. Before each stage, however, two of the others can be picked as sidekicks.

It is known by the name of "Granada", and has been destroying the weapons of the factions on both sides. You are this machine's pilot, a man by the name of Leon Todo. Granada is a free-roaming scrolling shooter. You control the titular maneuver cepter Granada as you make your way through each stage, destroying the enemy's weapons. You have a map that tells you where your targets are on the stage, and once all the targets have been destroyed a large boss enemy appears which must also be destroyed. You are equipped with a standard cannon, as well as a more powerful blaster that will actually push your machine backwards with the recoil. There are also assist pickups which will follow you and reflect any shots you fire at it toward the nearest enemies. Of special note is the fixed cannon feature. Using this feature, you can hold the direction of fire while still moving freely. The game has nine stages and three difficulty levels.

A powerful ring can turn all the monster statues in the castle to real monsters. But to be able to do that, Richard must be cursed. The young prince doesn't hesitate. Very soon, he leads the army of monsters into battle, unaware of the price he will have to pay for that... Hiōden is a strategy game with RPG elements. The player navigates several teams of characters, mostly monsters (up to six in each team) through isometric environments. Sometimes cooperation between different player-controlled teams is required to advance. The game plays in real time, i.e. enemy parties also move and perform actions without waiting for player's input. The RPG angle is present in form of character levels - characters grow stronger after defeating enemies. It is possible to put the teams on "auto-mode", having some of them move and perform actions on their own. The game has a mouse-driven interface with a somewhat unusual feature for its time: windows. The movement field of different teams, character statistics, overview map, team management screen - everything has its own window. It is possible to enlarge any window to full screen, close it, open several small windows at the same time, and drag windows to arrange them on the screen in any way.

The battles are mostly automatic, with preparation having more weight that the actual commands during battles. There is an option to "stop the clock" and adjust the strategy. Using the sword, Yuko defended herself against the monsters, and was whisked to a strange land, where she was told that she was the chosen Valis Warrior and must defeat Rogles, or the human world and the dream world would both be plunged into chaos. Mugen Senshi Valis is a side-scrolling platformer. Yuko can jump and attack enemies with her Valis sword, which can be upgraded and used as a ranged weapon by collecting power-ups found in the stages. She can also find and use items that grant her powerful all-screen attacks or temporary invincibility. Each stage culminates with a boss battle, after which Yuko's hit points and attributes increase.

Those brutal men establishing justice in the Edo are a safe pick for a story, but a woman as their captain does not look much better than those dozens of woman Oda Nobunaga countless parodies, to be honest. Game was issued after another shinsengumi tv show the same year. Graphics and especially depiction of emotions is great. Action is good. So it's a fairly enjoyable show if you can adapt to this fiction setting. And it was also quite disturbing to see how noone really figured out their captain was a female... not in bath, not in hot springs...

Not to be confused with Tales of Destiny II (original name Tales of Eternia), this installment in the Tales Of... series, unreleased in the West, is one of the few "true" sequels within the franchise, directly connected in its setting and plot to Tales of Destiny. The story takes place eighteen years after the events depicted in Tales of Destiny. Kyle, the son of the previous game's hero, is trying to find support for an orphanage operated by his parents. On his journey, he comes into contact with a powerful energy source known as Lens. A girl steps out of it, telling Kyle that she is on a quest to find a true hero. Naturally, Kyle is that hero; and very soon, he will have to prove it, when a mysterious woman uses the power of the Lens to revert history, sending Kyle into an alternate universe, in which the ancient Aeth'er Wars were won by a different side... Gameplay-wise, Tales of Destiny 2 is very similar to its predecessors in the series. As before, most of the game is played in a Japanese RPG fashion, with town and dungeon exploration, and random combat. The trademark side-scrolling action-based battles of the series remain intact in this installment; for the first time, a zoom feature allows a more detailed view of combat. Player-controlled characters learn skills of different tiers, which can be chained into combos. Performing combos increases the damage inflicted on the enemy, and provides bonus experience. Powerful special techniques cost TP (technical points) as well as SP (spirit points) to execute.

In Tales of Phantasia, you play a young boy named Cless, who lives together with his parents in a quiet village. It was a day like all the others when Cless decided to go hunting with his best friend Chester. Chasing a wild boar, Cless discovered a strange talking tree in the forest who was pleading him for help. But as soon as it stopped speaking, the two friends heard the sound of an alarm. They returned to the village and found it burnt down, and all its inhabitants murdered. Before Cless' mother died in his arms, she told him this terrible massacre had something to do with the pendant she and her husband gave Cless for his birthday... what connection could there be? Cless decides to visit his uncle who lives in another town, but he doesn't realize his journey will take him to much more remote places than that! The game's main claim to fame is its intro theme, which incorporates a vocal track. Normally, such a track cannot be done on the SNES, as all assets for a single song must fit into the 64kB audio buffer before the song can be played. This technical limit was overcome by slicing the vocal track into small samples and swapping them in and out of the audio buffer. The rest of the intro theme is standard MIDI. Tales of Phantasia presents a unique combat system. The battles have a lot in common with fighting games: you fight on a platform that slowly scrolls forward and have to attack your enemy in real time. Other party members are controlled by AI. You can pause the game at any time and use magic, items, or choose an overall strategy for your allies.

Tales of Phantasia is a real-time action RPG and the first game in the long-running Tales franchise. One of the bigger games on the Super Famicom, coming in at 48 megabits, Phantasia was an unusually sophisticated Super Famicom game thanks in part to Hiroya Hatsushiba's "Flexible Voice Driver," which allowed extensive (for the time) voice acting and a fully voiced opening theme, Yoshida Yukari's "Yume wa Owaranai," on a home console. Famed manga artist Kōsuke Fujishima's character designs would further cement the series' anime aesthetic. Aside from this, it was also the progenitor of the Linear Motion Battle System and much of the series' staples. This re-release for the original PlayStation runs on an enhanced engine which grants improved graphics, offers multiple gameplay enhancements and refinements, re-drawn character sprites and backgrounds, and a fully 3D-rendered world map. In addition, the voice-acted face chats (skits) were included, and this version gave birth to many new features still seen in modern Tales sequels today, such as cooking, and titles.

Tales of Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon is a role-playing video game for the Game Boy Color released by Namco. It is the first sequel in the Tales series, which normally does not have connected storylines. The story begins 205 years after the beginning of Tales of Phantasia. Due to the limits of the Game Boy, the game uses a battle system called Petit LMBS, a turn-based variation on the Linear Motion Battle System used by the rest of the series. As in normal LMBS, the player controls only one character and does so via button combinations instead of a dialogue choice, while party members are computer-controlled. A remake of the game was later released on PlayStation Portable called Tales of Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon X.

It was eventually followed up with a sequel, Zan III: Spirits. As with its thematically-similar contemporaries, like Shingen the Ruler or Nobunaga's Ambition, Zan II puts the player in the geta of a Japanese feudal lord, or daimyo, with designs to wrest control over the rest of Japan from the other daimyos. The game is more focused on warfare than day-to-day resource management, with armies of samurai marching across the map to attack fortresses and pagodas that host enemy flags.

Kagerou no Toki follows Yasha Enbukyoku as the next game in the Zan series. Unlike the previous game, Kagerō no Toki contains no supernatural forces (demons), and instead focuses on concrete events of the Sengoku period in Japan, more exactly 16th century, a period of Japanese history that was marked by continuous wars and famous leaders such as Oda Nobunaga or Tokugawa Ieyasu. The game offers more strategic possibilities than the previous installments of the series. Choosing a region of Japan and its leader, the player can perform a variety of activities, both in his country and towards other leaders. Diplomacy includes negotiation, signing contracts and peace treaties, etc. Battles are also more in-depth than before; instead of semi-automatic encounters battles occur on a separate map, on which the player has to actively navigate his unit, before he engages the enemy in close combat.

Zan II: Towns Special is an installment in the Zan series primarily based on Zan: Kagerō no Toki. The setting (Japanese Sengoku period) and main gameplay mechanics are identical. However, this version allows the player to recreate specific scenarios from the historical era, taking place between 1550 and 1600. Four scenarios of varied difficulty are available. Like other Zan games, this entry is a turn-based grand strategy game similar to Koei's Romance of the Three Kingdoms series. The player takes control of a ruler or general in a chosen province of Japan, trying to govern his own country by keeping its inhabitants happy, and gaining the upper hand in the struggle for dominance, be it through diplomatic manoeuvres or military actions. Combat takes place on separate isometric screens and allows the player to input detailed commands for the army.

A strategy sim from Wolf Team based on Japan's Sengoku era and the third in their Zan Spirits series. Zan III Spirits is the third game in Wolf Team's series of warring states era-set strategy war sims. While similar to Koei's Nobunaga's Ambition series in many ways, the Zan games are far more focused on warfare and logistics. Zan III is also the second in the Zan series to be released on the Super Famicom: most of the Zan series only appeared on Japanese home computers like the PC-9801 and FM Towns. The player is once again asked to lead the armies of their chosen daimyo (warlord) in an effort to conquer the rest of 16th century Japan. Zan III Spirits is an adaptation of Zan III: Tenun Ware ni Ari for the PC-9801, which was originally released in December 1993 four months prior. Zan III Spirits, like its SFC predecessor Zan II Spirits, was modified for its console release to make it work with the limitations/strengths of the system.

The third entry in the Zan series retains the basic gameplay elements from the previous titles. Like Kagerō no Toki, it is set in the Sengoku period of the Japanese history - more precisely, in 16th century, the time of great turmoils and consolidation of the power, before the Tokugawa family became the sole ruler of Japan for two hundred years. As in the previous game, the player chooses a leader of a small region in Japan, with the objective to rise to power and unite the country under his rule. Diplomacy is handled similarly, but the battles became more stream-lined, without the complex elements of the previous game. New to Zan III is the possibility to create a new general. The game offers a small face editor, and the player can choose not only geographical region, but name, age, and other characteristics of the playable leader.
