101 Kaime no Approach Shot

101 Kaime no Approach Shot

NEC PC-9801 - Released - March 7, 1992

101-kaime no Approach Shot is a golf game with erotic scenes. The player can choose to play in the training mode, alternating between five courses of various difficulty, and setting the strike limit. The versus mode allows the player to choose one of the many available female opponents of different appearances and professions (e.g. a schoolgirl, a teacher, a nurse, etc.). The game is played from first-person perspective; the player must stop a moving bar at the right time to regulate the strength of the shot and its angle. Having a lower score after four holes makes the opponent undress and assume an erotic pose.

177

177

NEC PC-9801 - Released - 1986

177 is the number of the Japanese criminal legislation paragraph that forbids rape. The game, however, does just the opposite: it puts the player in control of a man who must pursue a fleeing young girl and rape her. The game has two gameplay modes. The first is a side-scrolling arcade sequence during which the player has to prevent the girl from reaching her house, and avoid the hazards on the protagonist's way. These include stones, barriers, animals such as dogs and turtles, etc., and can be avoided by destroying or jumping over them. The protagonist runs automatically, but the player can increase or decrease the distance between him and the running girl. In order to make the girl choose the wrong way and fail to find her house, the protagonist throws stones at her (these can also be used to kill animals and destroy obstacles). After the protagonist has caught the girl, the game switches into sex simulation. The player pushes arrow keys in a specific order to correspond with the protagonist's movements. The goal is to sexually satisfy the girl. If the player fails, the protagonist is arrested; if he succeeds, the girl marries the protagonist.

2 Shot Diary 2: Memory 1/4

2 Shot Diary 2: Memory 1/4

NEC PC-9801 - Released - December 9, 1995

This is the first of the four episodic games that constitute the sequel to first 2 Shot Diary game. Unlike the first game with its 12 different scenarios, it only contains 2, and both are very short; however (also unlike the first game), most of the scenes here are animated. Both scenarios consist entirely of depictions of explicit sex. One of the scenarios is about a girl named Yukari; after her father died, she had to look for a job, and finally became a maid in a mansion of a rich oligarch, who molests her sexually. The other scenario is dedicated to a very young girl named Emi, who goes with her friends to the beach. Once she finds herself in a secluded place, a young boy approaches, and the two have sex. The gameplay follows the same template that was utilized in 2 Shot Diary: text and graphical scenes unfold automatically, and the player's input is restricted to choosing words from a list to fill blanks in sentences. This allows the player to interpret the events in various ways, effectively "writing" the girl's diary on his own.

2 Shot Diary 2: Memory 2/4

2 Shot Diary 2: Memory 2/4

NEC PC-9801 - Released - February 29, 1996

This is the second of the four episodic games that constitute the sequel to first 2 Shot Diary game. Unlike the first game with its 12 different scenarios, it only contains 2, and both are very short; however (also unlike the first game), most of the scenes here are animated. Both scenarios consist entirely of depictions of explicit sex. One of the two scenarios shows a young girl named Mayumi in her house, when suddenly a stranger phones her, and the two have passionate telephone sex. The other scenario deals with a schoolgirl named Mai. She is ambushed by a gang of men who undress her and use her as a "plate" to arrange seafood on, which involves perversities which better remain unnamed.

2 Shot Diary 2: Memory 3/4

2 Shot Diary 2: Memory 3/4

NEC PC-9801 - Released - April 6, 1996

This is the third of the four episodic games that constitute the sequel to first 2 Shot Diary game. Unlike the first game with its 12 different scenarios, it only contains 2, and both are very short; however (also unlike the first game), most of the scenes here are animated. Both scenarios consist entirely of depictions of explicit sex. One of the two scenarios focuses on a young photographer named Youko; unexpectedly, her boss asks her to take part in a production of a lesbian porn movie. The other scenario involves a young girl named Saki going to the bar, getting a bit drunk, and eventually engaging in a lesbian threesome.

3×3 Eyes: Sanjiyan Henjyo

3×3 Eyes: Sanjiyan Henjyo

NEC PC-9801 - Released - February 5, 1993

Sanjiyan Henjō is based on the manga and anime series 3x3 Eyes. Pai, a young girl from the immortal tribe of sanzhiyan, three-eyed demons of Chinese origin, wants to become a human again. She meets a Japanese teenager named Yakumo Fujii, whom she accidentally turns into a "wu", an immortal obedient servant of a three-eyed demon. Together, Pai and Yakumo try to regain their lost humanity. This game can be considered a side-story to the series. The player does not control Yakumo, but an ordinary high-school student named Kenichi Yamamoto. Accidentally, Kenichi comes into contact with the world of demons, and now he needs the help of Pai and Yakumo to be freed. The gameplay is standard Japanese-style adventure. The player interacts with the game world by selecting menu commands "Look", "Talk", and "Move". The game features animated cutscenes and (in its console incarnation) voice-overs.

31: Iwayuru Hitotsu no Chou Lovely na Bouken Katsugeki

31: Iwayuru Hitotsu no Chou Lovely na Bouken Katsugeki

NEC PC-9801 - Released - March 2, 1995

The heroine of this curiously named title is Choko, the princess of the fictional country Baskin, which is mostly a medieval world with some modern-day anachronisms. She lives in the capital city Robins with her Mom and Dad, namely queen and king. Her curious nature eventually leads her to some interesting acquaintances, including magic users and adventurers, who help her to uncover a threat to her family and country. The princess has to travel through a dangerous forest with her best buddy Meron, in order to protect Baskin from danger. 31... is a Japanese-style adventure game. The interaction is minimal, usually restricted to two or three commands (mostly Look or Talk) with a few sub-menus at most. Usually, the player advances the story and proceeds automatically when all the options at the screen are depleted. However, there is also menu-based navigation (in the forest, etc.), which requires memorizing ways and choosing directions correctly. The game contains scenes with nudity and sexual situations.

38 Man Kilo no Kokuu

38 Man Kilo no Kokuu

NEC PC-9801 - Released - 1989

Following a devastating atomic war between USA and Soviet Union, the Earth has plunged into chaos and destruction in the 1990-ies. It was not until the middle of the 21th century that humanity started to recover from its losses. Earth was nearly abandoned, and representative of the most powerful countries concentrated on space colonization projects. The Americans founded an organization called NSCA (National Space Colonized Association). Their project, SC (Space Colony), was a huge tower, comparable to the mythical Tower of Babel. This is also the home of the game's protagonist, who returns after prolonged space travels, and soon becomes involved in a complex struggle between countries and political organizations. The fifth installment of System Sacom's Novel Ware series, 38 Man Kilo No Kokuu is essentially a visual novel. The majority of the game consists of text - dialogues, descriptions of the hero's thoughts and actions, and an extensive database concerning the scientific/political background of the game. Though graphical images (usually of people) are displayed by default in small windows, they can be turned off. The player follows the story, sometimes altering its course by selecting an action/response when such a choice is given to him by the game.

3ta-kun

3ta-kun

NEC PC-9801 - Released - July 19, 1991

A nameless otaku (which roughly corresponds to the English geek, albeit with a focused "nerdiness" in all things anime) encounters an aggressively-looking Santa Claus, who offers to test his knowledge; if he succeeds, he can have his way with a few magically summoned beautiful girls... Santa-kun is a quiz simulation. Santa asks a question, and the player must choose the correct answer among the three available ones. The game consists of several "matches"; in the beginning of each, a fully dressed young girl is introduced. A match consists of three rounds (25 questions all together); after each round, the girl removes part of her clothing. Upon successful completion of a match, the girl is shown fully naked. The questions revolve (with a few exceptions) around video games and computer technology.

48 Night Story

48 Night Story

NEC PC-9801 - Released - August 21, 1992

48 Night Story has, despite its name, no story (on the game's title screen, the number "8" is written by combining the international signs for "male" and "female"...). The game is entirely dedicated to sex and can be therefore considered a sex simulation. There are 48 young girls to choose from. Each of them has a name and a short biography, including likes and dislikes, sexual experience, etc. After choosing a girl, the game has to match her portrait by clicking on one of the four cards hiding pictures of different girls. Then the player goes through the girl's bio, asking a limited amount of questions. Then it is time to choose one of the many available sexual positions, trying to choose the one the girl would be most comfortable with, according to her data known to the player. The actual sex scene proceeds then automatically.

4D Boxing

4D Boxing

NEC PC-9801 - Released - January 14, 1993

4-D Boxing leaves behind any pretences of being a pure arcade game based on boxing, and aims to recreate the sport in full detail. The graphics engine allows for multiple camera angles and viewpoints, and considerably detailed visuals. These required more advanced hardware than was common at the time, but a stick-figure mode was included as a compromise. The moves on offer include all the uppercuts and hooks of a real fight, and the players are designed to move realistically to implement them. You progress through the game by taking on a succession of increasingly difficult fighters, and get to train your boxer in between. Advanced action replays are included as well, so you can review all that happened.

4D Tennis

NEC PC-9801 - Released - July 23, 1993

Being part of Mindscape's 4D Sports game series, this program tries to realistically reproduce the game of tennis. Just like all the other games from the series, 4D Sports Tennis offers "true four-dimensional gameplay" by letting the player access advanced replay features. The game is based on simple, untextured 3D polygon graphics, providing not only a standard fixed camera and freely positionable views, but also a very unique first-person view, in which the player does see nothing of his own character except for the racket, and the view is always following the ball.

The hero is impressed by Shimeji's beauty, but he is also determined to find the cause of her depression. Piece by piece he uncovers the truth about Shimeji's life... The game is composed mainly of text accompanied by pictures. Movement and most of the actions are done automatically by the game. Sometimes the player has to choose an action from two or more available ones, but often only one choice advances the game. There are also a few parts with point-and-click interface, when the hero examines Shimeji.

A Ressha de Ikou

A Ressha de Ikou

NEC PC-9801 - Released - 1994

A Ressha de Ikou is the first in the long-running transport network simulation series mostly known as A-Train. The player controls a railroad company CEO in the end of the nineteenth century, who was entrusted by the president of an unnamed country to build a railroad that reaches its Western coast. The game is played in real time, with a day/night cycle and a game world that changes regardless of the player's actions. Compared to its more widely known sequels, A Ressha de Ikou has a rather simple gameplay that is confined to building tracks for just one train line, the titular A-train. A report is generated that shows how well the player is doing in his/her competition against other networks.

A Ressha de Ikou II

A Ressha de Ikou II

NEC PC-9801 - Released - July 9, 1988

In a goal-oriented approach, your task as a railroad tycoon is to build a trans-continental track that connects New York with California in the US scenario, England with Turkey on the (considerably more challenging) Europe map. With transportation service limited to passengers only and scheduling options minimized, creating smoothly running train lines is comparatively easy – just make sure that trains don’t collide on the single-track lines. The main focus is on efficient track building using the A-Train, which you control directly. A limited supply of rails and geographical barriers such as rivers with few pre-constructed bridges make careful planning essential. Optional cargo trains help distributing building materials to the station closest to your A-Train. In a unique feature, days pass in an accelerated real-time day/night cycle, with track-building only possible during daylight and changes to train schedules and switches only allowed at night.

A Ressha de Ikou III

A Ressha de Ikou III

NEC PC-9801 - Released - December 14, 1990

Play the part of the head of a railroad company, with the aim of creating a railroad empire, providing a successful mass transit system that will be an inspiration to the rest of the world. Another goal is to provide the impetus for a chosen city to develop. There are a number of different places to set up business each with different layouts and existing houses and businesses. The main money earners are passenger trains, that can be scheduled to pick up passengers at the times of day when the demand is high. However, in the long term you need the city to develop. This requires setting up trains that transport resources to where they are needed. These resources are used to build houses, and other buildings, increasing the number of passengers for commuter trains. As the city develops, new businesses will spring up, such as stadiums, high rise office blocks, and ski resorts. The player may also build own businesses, the success of which will depend on the local population, the presence of competing businesses, and even the changes of the seasons, among other factors. The stock market is also another way of making money. The player may also watch the seasons come and go, with snow visible in winter, and fireworks displays celebrating the New Year.

Abunai Tengu Densetsu is an adventure game with menu-based navigation and input. Most screens offer a fairly long list of verb commands, some of which must be combined with objects or persons selected from a sub-menu in order to interact with the environment. The game allows the player to visit many different rooms and other locations in any order; however, certain events must be triggered in order to advance, sometimes by repeatedly selecting commands. Certain situations require the player to find items and use them in a different location. The game contains scenes with explicit nudity and sexual situations.

Adrenalin Connection

Adrenalin Connection

NEC PC-9801 - Released - August 21, 1987

"I shall take my revenge on the peaceful St. Eastern high school" - an anonymous letter arrived at the school. The principal asks the new teacher to investigate the source of the letter. At the same time transfer students are being forced to drop out one by one because of bullying... This is the only game every developed by Amorpheus company. Setting is close to real world but events turn around school girls and the idealistic vibe of "let's be together forever" spoils it a bit. The atmosphere of the game was very light, but story was unexpectedly bulky. Schoolgirls were unrealistically glamorous. Multiple command selection helped to keep the good pace and concentrate on plot and the multi-ending was one of the first appearances in game. Graphics were of high standard considering hardware limitations of pc-98. Almost all the characters who talked actually had mouth animation. Sound would make you excited from the start of the game. Pity it could not have voices included yet. Every girl had her own ending. There were 5 endings overall. Its existence in 1987 was a miracle itself. Rather than having outstanding advantages and features, it was rather the work without shortcomings. It's not really remembered as masterpiece, but it was one of first quality works to pave the road for next generation of quality VNs.

Now the gorgeous goddess has become a part of his life, and the two find themselves involved in constant misunderstandings and comical situations, yet also develop feelings for each other... The game is a typical visual novel. The only gameplay is a periodical decision-making (usually between two options), which might lead to different dialogues and/or scenes; however, most of the time the main story line remains the same.

Ai no Omochashi: Space Gigolo: Red Cobra

Ai no Omochashi: Space Gigolo: Red Cobra

NEC PC-9801 - Released - March 10, 1995

Mr. M (whom true fans of Illusion games will certainly recognize as the one and the only Mokkoriman) is an alien who looks like a human being. Since he is a super-hero, his main concern is to save people - most importantly, women. For Mr. M, "saving" is synonymous with "sexually satisfying". There are beautiful women on remote planets that have not experienced the joy of true sexual satisfaction. Only one man can save them - Mr. M's friend, the famous Space Gigolo, Red Cobra, the one who "lives and dies for love and justice"! And he has just the right tool - an intelligent sex toy named Pakki! But alas, not all is simple: the sexy, but deadly intergalactic warrior Mangoose and her minions will do everything possible to stop Red Cobra! Be vigilant, hero! Usually just called Red Cobra, this game is yet another Illusion-made genre experiment. This time, we are talking about space shooter with sex. The player controls Red Cobra's spaceship in a pseudo-3D scrolling environment. The gameplay is what one would expect from a space shooter: shoot everything, avoid enemy blows, grab the power-ups, beat a boss, finish the stage. Everything is controlled with the mouse: moving it moves the ship on screen, holding the left button fires at enemies. There are three selectable difficulty levels. The game also has extensive, story-heavy cut-scenes between the shooting levels, with plenty of dialogue and - naturally - sex scenes. The sex scenes in this game are quite mild (especially for Illusion) and mostly involve women "rescued" by Red Cobra using the sex toy Pakki for... well, what sex toys are usually used for. Some of these scenes are animated.

The game has a typical "Look - Think - Talk" menu during most scenes, and sexually-related commands during the numerous corresponding activities. There is also menu-based navigation, particularly around the school, to search for one of the sisters. The player must make some decisions from time to time, which might alter the course of the story, lock/unlock graphical sex scenes, and eventually lead to different endings.

Aiza: New Generation

NEC PC-9801 - Released - April 20, 1991

Its inhabitants make wine from the country's fine grapes, and merchants from all over the world travel there. But the era of piece has come to an end. One day, a Wineslem girl named Elphie finds an unconscious young man on the lake shore. He doesn't remember anything about his past. But with his outstanding skills, he might become the savior people are waiting for. Aiza is an action RPG, somewhat similar in layout to Ys games. However, the combat requires the player to actively press the "attack" key (unlike the "bumping" combat in Ys). Defeated monsters bring experience points, which contribute to the hero's automatic leveling up. Beside physical attacks, the hero can also execute special techniques which require "psyche" points.

Akatsuki no Bizantira

NEC PC-9801 - Released - 1994

The game's story is based on a fantasy novel of the same name by Hiroe Suga. In a world with two moons, humans peacefully co-exist with various species of intelligent animals, called "mebu". But something has destroyed the balance in that world, and animals have started to attack humans. A female warrior named Bizantira, accompanied by the yellow bird Diel, decides to find out the reason behind these occurrences and to discover the truth about humans and mebu. The game is a very basic Japanese-style RPG, with minimal story development and simple gameplay mechanics. The player controls Bizantira as she wanders around the top-down world map, exploring the world and visiting towns. There is no navigation in the towns; locations (such as weapons shop, inn, etc.) are selected through a menu. The battles are random, turn-based, and are viewed from first-person perspective.

Akiko Gold: The Queen of Adult

NEC PC-9801 - Released - December 22, 1994

A certain girl's high school has attracted the attention of the authorities: girls are disappearing, and there are rumors of strange cult-like activities going on in the school. Secret service sends a female agent (codename "Akiko") to the high school. Posing as an English teacher, Akiko must unravel the mystery - which she eventually does, though not quite the way one would expect from a special agent... The gameplay is very simple Japanese-style adventure: every screen presents a menu of possible verb commands and objects ("Look at...", "Talk about...", etc.) By going through these commands, the player depletes available actions on the screen and moves to a new one. Sometimes it is possible to move around the school (also via a menu). The game is very heavy on pornographic scenes, mostly depicting lesbian sex.

But upon arriving, she realizes that the school is a playground for wild sex. Akiko is seduced by her female boss, witnesses sex scenes between students, and finally gives in to her urges... Akiko walks the middle ground between adventure and visual novel. There are almost no recurring commands, and the player mostly advances simply of going through the few possible choices. However, its is often necessary to move around the school (through the menu), and the command input is too frequent to consider the game a real visual novel.

Alaskan Malamute G.C.

NEC PC-9801 - Released - September 11, 1992

Alaskan malamute is actually a dog breed (similar to Siberian husky); but this game has nothing to do with dogs and everything to do with golf. The introduction story tells us that in 1912, the famous American businessman J.P.Morgan founded a golf tournament in Alaska. The best golfers from all over the world came to compete, but nobody from Japan... so naturally, the player has to correct that! Referring to itself as a "3D simulation golf game", Alaskan Malamute G.C. features pseudo-3D terrain with rotatable camera. The player is able to adjust his golfer's position, strength, direction, and style of the shot. It is possible to create own players with different statistics. The game has various play modes, with up to 4 players competing in each; those modes include regular play, tournament, and training.

Alice-tachi no Gogo Vol. 1

NEC PC-9801 - Released - December 1, 1989

The plot of this game is very simple: there is a big Expo in Japan, and the protagonist - working as a journalist for a company called "Oh!" (suspiciously similar to the company that designed this game) - must enter each pavilion and take pictures of the female models there. The trick is that the company is interested in erotic pictures of semi- or completely nude models, so the hero must use all his charm in order to convince the models to do so... Alice-tachi no Gogo can be considered an adventure game with RPG angle. The main challenge of the game is to explore the huge, complex Expo area, finding people and items needed to gain access to new locations. However, there is also an RPG system in the game, even though many typical RPG elements (combat, equipment, etc.) are absent. The hero has a health bar, which is depleted whenever he tries to convince a girl to undress. In a sense, encounters with girls in the pavilions are equivalent to battles in other RPGs: some girls are too "strong", and the hero has to level up before he can "fight" them. Levels are gained by successfully undressing girls, which corresponds to the cornerstone of RPG gameplay: become stronger through experience.

Alice-tachi no Gogo Vol. 2

NEC PC-9801 - Released - December 1, 1989

As the name implies, this is the continuation of Alice-tachi no Gogo Vol. 1. The two volumes were released as separate game packages, but they can be considered two parts of the same game. The second volume has exactly the same story as the first: as a journalist working for a company named "Oh!", the player has to explore a huge Expo area and take pictures of as many pretty girls as possible, preferably undressed. The gameplay is identical to the first volume. The protagonist procures items or information to access new areas of the Expo, and deals with the girls in the pavilions in a RPG-like fashion, gaining "good feeling" (experience points) when trying to convince a girl to undress, at the same time losing "spirit" (hit points). Selling photos of the girls brings money, which in its turn is spent on healing and other items. What prevents this second volume from being exactly the same game as the first is a completely different layout of the Expo, somewhat increased difficulty level, and - naturally - an all-new cast of pretty girls waiting to be undressed.

Alone in the Dark

Alone in the Dark

NEC PC-9801 - Released - March 11, 1994

Jeremy Hartwood has committed suicide in his Louisiana mansion, Derceto. You take the role of either Edward Carnby, a private investigator, or Emily Hartwood, Jeremy's niece, and investigate the suspicious death. The three-floor mansion is reputed to be haunted by its eccentric past owner. Very quickly, you realise that it is. Warped rats, zombies and giant worms are among the foes who are after you, and you must somehow escape. Alone in the Dark is an action-adventure survival horror game. The action is displayed from a number of fixed viewpoints. The backgrounds are 2D painted images, while the player character, all items and monsters are rendered as 3D models. To escape the mansion, you'll have to solve a number of puzzles. They usually involve finding an item and using it in a proper place. Apart from items necessary for the puzzles, you can also find books and documents that can be read, healing items which can be consumed to restore hit points, and weapons. Weapons come in handy, since Derceto is full of various monsters. Some monsters can be killed with weapons, but others are either impossible to kill or require a bit of thinking to take down. Note also that you have limited amounts of ammunition, so you have to use firearms carefully.

Alone in the Dark 2

Alone in the Dark 2

NEC PC-9801 - Released - December 3, 1994

In Alone in the Dark 2, you take the role of detective Edward Carnby, one of the two main characters in the original Alone in the Dark. Carnby is now called upon to investigate a bootlegger named One Eyed Jack after an old detective college name Stryker attributes Jack to the kidnapping of young Grace Saunders. Stryker attempts to infiltrate Jack's dilapidated mansion of Hell's Kitchen and rescue the girl, only to disappear himself. That's where Carnby comes in. Carnby soon learns that Jack and his gangsters are really 15th century pirates who gained immortality after Jack joined forces with Elizabeth Jarret, a Voodoo witch. However the dark magic which keeps them immortal also requires Jack and his crew to regularly make human sacrifices (which explains Grace's kidnapping). Now Carnby must battle his way through Hell's Kitchen and Jack's army of tommy-gun wielding gangsters, searching for a way to break the spell and make them stay dead. Alone in the Dark 2 is an action-adventure game, similar to the original Alone in the Dark. Like its predecessor, the game uses hybrid 2D-3D graphics. Completing the game requires you to solve a lot of puzzles while fighting zombie pirates along the way. Some enemies can be killed with the numerous weapons at your disposal, while others need to be defeated via trickery. Apart from Edward Carnby, the game also includes a short section (two sections in the CD-ROM version) where you play as the little Grace Saunders. Grace obviously cannot fight, and thus the sections featuring her are all about fast reflexes and wits to evade and outsmart the enemies.

Alone in the Dark 3

Alone in the Dark 3

NEC PC-9801 - Released - December 8, 1995

After surviving through two encounters with the supernatural in Derceto and Hell's Kitchen, detective Edward Carnby is ready for another round of being Alone in the Dark. In the third game in the series, we learn that Emily Hartwood (the other main character from the original game) started a career in Hollywood movies after surviving her ordeal in Derceto. Her latest project is a spaghetti western being filmed in an abandoned western ghost town called Slaughter Gultch, which rests precariously on the edge of the San Andreas fault. Originally a gold town set up rather rudely on ancient Indian sacred ground, Slaughter Gultch was founded by a man named Jebediah Stone and run by his own private army of cold-blooded killers. Stone and his men were killed by angry villagers led by the local Blacksmith, and the town was abandoned soon after. Unfortunately, Emily's crew disturbs the spirits of Stone and his men, who promptly return to the world of the living and proceed to kill off the film crew one by one. Carnby is called to Slaughter Gultch after learning of the disappearance of Emily and her crew, and is soon met by Stone's Zombie Cowboy gang. Armed with various western paraphenalia such as colt peacemakers, bullwhips, and even a gatling gun, Carnby must fight his way through Stone's minions and discover Emily's fate. Along the way he learns some surprising things about Stone's origin, as well as a sinister plan interrupted by his death which involved the destruction of the west coast and which Stone can now pursue once again. The gameplay is similar to the two predecessors: The player guides Carnby through static 3D screens which regularly switch camera perspectives. He collects various items and uses them to solve puzzles. Additionally to using items there are four actions which are triggered with the press of a button: jump (only at pre-defined places), open/examine, move (e.g. pushing) and fight. The latter is an important gameplay mechanics because many situations require a violent approach: the player either uses melee attacks or other weapons (with scarce ammo resources). The player has to aim manually and can set Carnby's and the enemy's life energy (which greatly affects the difficulty) in three steps.

Alshark

Alshark

NEC PC-9801 - Released - May 24, 1991

Alshark is a Japanese-style sci-fi role-playing game with several distinguishing features. The player controls a party of up to five characters, exploring a vast world consisting of several solar systems, each with its own planets and space stations, many of which can be accessed in any order. Navigation in space is done with the help of the space ship Atlia, which can be equipped with various weapons, engines and frames. From time to time the player will engage in random space combat against enemy ships, earning scrap that can be converted into money. These dogfights are automatic by default, but the player can choose to control the ship and fire its weapons manually, in an arcade shooter style. The bulk of the exploration, however, takes place on planet surfaces, which the party can explore on foot or in vehicles such as buggies, tanks or hovercrafts. Enemies appear randomly; combat is turn-based and is viewed from the same overhead perspective as the exploration. Only Sion is directly controlled by the player, while other characters follow AI routines, using normal attacks as well as offensive and healing techniques. Characters can equip head and body armor, futuristic melee weapons, as well as a variety of firearms. A "party talk" feature is available, with the characters being able to consult each other at any time. The game is also notable for allowing the characters to level up beyond the customary cap of 100.

Alvaleak Boukenki

Alvaleak Boukenki

NEC PC-9801 - Released - November 5, 1993

The land of Alvaleak is home to many explorers and adventures who hunt for rare treasures. Three such adventurers descended once into a mysterious cave - and no one has ever heard from them afterwards. Their children grew up and became adventurers themselves, members of the adventurers' guild: the boy Riva and the girl Emily. One day they are entrusted with a dangerous assignment: explore the so-called "diamond cave", grab the treasures, and report to the superiors. The young heroes do not now that this is just the beginning of a grand journey, during which they will discover the truth about what happened to their fathers... Made by the creators of Emerald Dragon, Alvaleak Boukenki is a Japanese-style RPG that plays almost entirely from first-person perspective (except short and linear transitions on the top-down map). All the locations (including towns) are displayed as dungeon-like areas. In dangerous locations (caves, towers, etc.), enemies appear randomly. The turn-based battles can be set on auto. The player-controlled party of characters (up to four) uses guns as their weapons; bullets must also be bought from weapon shops. There are no magic spells in the game. All the areas are auto-mapped as the player explores them.

Amaranth

Amaranth

NEC PC-9801 - Released - December 14, 1990

Trouble is in the kingdom of Stellar. The lovely princess has disappeared, and the king sends his best men to investigate. All they find on the spot where the princess has vanished is a confused young boy who has lost his memory and knows only his name: Liann. Since he still might have some connection to the princess' disappearance, the king sends Liann on a quest to find her. And perhaps along the way, the boy will be able to find the magic flower called Amaranth, that restores people's memories... Amaranth is a RPG with action-based combat. Enemies appear randomly, and Liann and his party members are taken to a separate battle screen. Attacks are performed by bumping into enemies, like in Ys series. The other party members are controlled by the AI. Equipment and items can be bought in town shops, and the heroes level up in a standard RPG fashion.

Amaranth II

Amaranth II

NEC PC-9801 - Released - August 21, 1992

Years have passed since the great hero Liann Fremdes defeated the evil Bosedorf and brought peace to the kingdom of Stellar, opening a new chapter in its glorious history. Liann has retired since then, hoping to have some peace for himself. But once a hero, always a hero: an aggressive nation from the West threatens the country, and help is needed. Liann arrives at the city of Strahl to talk to the local king, and hooks up with an elf girl named Din who is willing to accompany the hero on his travels... Amaranth II is the second in the series of action-based RPGs. The party roams the world in top-down fashion, levels up and buys equipment, just like in the first game. Attacks are performed by bumping into enemies, who can be seen on the screen before either the player or the enemy initiate combat.

Amaranth III

Amaranth III

NEC PC-9801 - Released - January 14, 1994

Amaranth III directly continues the story of the second game. The knight Lyann Fremdes and his lovely companion, the elf Din, the heroes of the game, head to the city of Dematria, where Din is met with joy; there is even an article about her magical healing powers in a local newspaper. All goes well till the heroes decide to visit the city Magnelia. A hostile army invades the train station and massacres people. Looks like Lyann and Din have to hide for the time being, before they can think of a secure way to stop the enemies - which is anything but easy, since the enemy seems to possess advanced technology... Amaranth III differs from its predecessors in several ways. It has a more modern setting, with steam-punk elements. The gameplay system has been re-vamped, becoming closer to a strategy RPG than to an action RPG. As before, the battles feature free movement, but it is turn-based now, with action points for each characters; the character can act as long as he/she still have action points left. There is a "Vigour" system that keeps track of characters' stamina; once the vigour is lowered, the character begins to lose hit points. Using special items and resting in inns restores vigour.

Amaranth IV

Amaranth IV

NEC PC-9801 - Released - August 4, 1995

Amaranth IV continues the over-arching story of the series. The main heroine in this game is not Liann Fremdes, the usual protagonist of Amaranth games, but his lovely elf companion Din. After visiting the ancient city of Posse and meeting some new friends, Din heads to the capital city of Stellar to meet prince Deinass, whom she helped eight years ago during events described in the previous game. But shadows from the past keep haunting the young prince. His sister is kidnapped by an old acquaintance. Din, Deinass, and their friends must do everything they can to bring her back and to stop a new threat to the kingdom. Similarly to the previous game, Amaranth IV contains elements of strategy RPGs: limited exploration, rare and story-dictated battles, and turn-based combat with free movement on the battle field. However, it gets rid of the "vigour" and action points system of the previous game, in favor of simpler gameplay. The player-controlled characters act in turns, and can usually move and execute a physical attack (or cast a spell) one time per turn. Some weapons require specific placement on the field (for example, bows require a character equipped with them to stand diagonally across the enemy in order to be able to attack). Character receive experience points and level up after defeating enemies; fallen character are resurrected to full health after battles. Instead of the usual top-down view, Amaranth IV uses isometric perspective for battles and exploration.

Amaranth KH

Amaranth KH

NEC PC-9801 - Released - April 21, 1995

Amaranth KH is a side-story in the Amaranth series, and can be considered a prequel to all the previous games; it doesn't feature the same heroes, but is set in the same universe, at a much earlier time, when the kingdom of Stellar was not yet built and when Posse was a flourishing city. The game tells the story of Landschaft, a young warrior in the army or Rauschritt. He trains in the Posse camp with his best friend Dienstag and the lovely Jungfer. He is well-known for his courage, but he first needs to prove himself worthy of being a true night. It began as an educational battle for the young hero, but soon a chain of events forced him to fight for his life and for his country. Amaranth KH is the radical conclusion to the series' tendency to strategy elements; it discards the RPG elements (movement outside of a battle screen, exploration, etc.) in favor of a traditional Japanese-style turn-based strategy game with a RPG angle (leveling up). The player commands Landschaft, his friends, and their units, moving them on the battle screen and attacking enemies when they are in their weapons' range. There are different types of units: infantry, cavalry, archers, magicians, etc. Some battle elements were taken from the previous game (such as archers attacking diagonally). Strong, story-related characters (generals) can fight alone against an entire unit of "nameless" characters. Every attack is displayed as a separate picture, graphically depicting ts results. If the attack is initiated by the enemy, the player can choose to counter-attack.

Angel Army

NEC PC-9801 - Released - April 1, 1993

The first creation of Illusion, a company famous for its adult games, was a turn-based war game - with the only factor hinting at its creator's libido-flattering future being the generals of the game - all pretty girls, all from different countries. There are three modes in the game: player vs. computer, in which the player selects any general of any country; campaign mode, in which the player progresses stage-by-stage, beginning with Japan; and two-player mode, in which the players can choose any stage from the beginning. The gameplay itself is rather complex; as the general, the player has to protect his cities and at the same time send his army to combat the invading opponent. There is a wide variety of different units, including jets, helicopters, tanks, etc. Whenever a unit approaches an enemy unit, it can perform an attack, assuming that its weapons remain in range. Attacks are displayed as separate screens, graphically displaying the results. The player can choose to give up when it is clear that there are no chances for victory. Either way, a successful invasion of the opponent results in Game Over.

In a certain girls' high school, students have begun to mysteriously disappear. Authorities suggest that a secret society is at work. A spy needs to be sent in order to solve the mystery, and this mission falls into the hands of this game's hero. His boss explains to him that the quest is dangerous, indeed: many students associated with the mysterious cult have gone rampant and will attack any trespasser on sight!.. This simple story is the background for an (equally) simple RPG. The gameplay resembles that of "dungeon crawlers", meaning that there are no friendly areas; though the view for exploration is top-down rather than first-person (which is reserved for the turn-based battles). The gameplay mechanics are mostly confined to fighting random enemies and earning enough experience points to go up a level and standing a chance against the next "boss" enemy. There is no equipment system, and battle commands are restricted to "Attack", "Escape", and "Item". The enemies are all pretty high school girls, and they undress upon defeat or even perform acts of sexual nature on the protagonist.

Angel Night

Angel Night

NEC PC-9801 - Released - April 26, 1996

In the miraculous World of Demons, there lived a vampiric count. One day, standing near the statue of the Goddess of Time, the count thought with sadness of everyone's mortal fate; at this moment the God of Death appeared, telling the count he has a visitor in his castle. The visitor turns out to be a succubus named Karuru, who suggests that the count trains two young female demons, Tiris and Emalis, and sends them to the other worlds... Angel Night has elements of adventure game (verb-based interface, menu-based navigation through the game world, usage of inventory items, etc.), visual novel (choosing answers that will influence the course of the story), as well as simulation game elements. The simulation aspect is evident in the statistics the two young girls have: depending on the count's actions, they will have better or worse training, and also might have a sexual relationship with their master.

NEC PC-9801 - Released - 1989

Two horrifying incidents that happened in two unrelated places. A man in Peru, one of the constructors of a new dam. An American female exchange student in Japan. Both were suddenly struck by a horrible disease that deformed their faces... Two young special agents, Alice and Brian, are sent to investigate the mystery, that will lead them into a dark world of occult and demonic forces... Akuma no Fukuin (Japanese for Devil's Gospel) is a Japanese-style adventure game. The player chooses menu commands ("Look", "Talk", etc.) that are displayed under a still picture that represents the location. Most of these command have their own context-dependent sub-menus, i.e. it is possible (and sometimes necessary) to look at different things and talk about different topics. There are no puzzles, and the story usually advances when the player has triggered a necessary conversation or event.

Animahjong V3

NEC PC-9801 - Released - February 26, 1993

In this pre-Viper game by Sogna, an elderly mahjong master with no sons seeks a male successor. When he discovers the protagonist, he offers him one of his three daughters for a wife. His daughters, Rumi, Miyabi, and Yumika, disagree because they've never met him, so the old man suggests they play strip mahjong with him in order to get to know him. Since they are all skilled mahjong players, they think they will embarrass him and agree. Like Sogna's later games, Animahjong V3 features high-quality animation during the strip scenes. The characters return in the sequel, Animahjong X.

Animahjong X Perfect

Animahjong X Perfect

NEC PC-9801 - Released - December 9, 1994

There is no real story in this game: the nameless protagonist is a young man who roams the city in his car with just one goal in mind: strip mahjong. In the story mode, the hero visits different locations (mahjong parlor, shop, hospital, etc.) and plays mahjong with the pretty girls he finds there; after having won, he proceeds to the next location and next heroines. In the battle mode, the player can one or three others. After each successful mahjong round, the girl who lost removes an item of her clothes. As in other games by Sogna, the undressing sequences are fully animated. Animahjong X Perfect is an add-on for Animahjong X. It adds a four-player multiplayer mode as well as replay and music room options.

Anniversary: Natsuyasumi no Omoide

NEC PC-9801 - Released - December 3, 1993

Anniversary: Memories of Summer Vacation tells the story of a young girl named Ringo. One night, Ringo witnesses an impish girl named Cherry seducing another girl. At first she feels repulsed, but after a while finds out that she is excited... soon she and Cherry become lovers and soulmates, unaware of the fact that Cherry is being hunted by the authorities... The game is a traditional Japanese-style adventure (without puzzles). Interaction with the game world is performed by selected verb commands (Look, Talk, Think, Move, etc.), from a menu. Selecting a command leads to context-related sub-menus. Sex scenes are handled somewhat differently; also with verb commands, but rather concrete ones (Touch, Lick, etc.), and point-and-click interaction instead of sub-menus.
