Jupiter Ace

The Jupiter Ace was a British home computer of the early 1980s, produced by a company set up for the purpose, named Jupiter Cantab. The Ace differed from other microcomputers of the time in that it used Forth instead of the more common BASIC.

3D Maze is a 1st person perspective maze game where you must move around a maze trying to find the exit. At the start of the game you can adjust the size from 3x3 to 20x20 rooms, before looking at a plan of the maze to memorise. When you are moving around the maze in four directions, you can bring up a map of the maze to help find your way around. As well as finding the exit, the aim is to also escape in the fewest number of steps and looking at the map for help.

Avoider is an action game for an unexpanded Jupiter Ace. The idea is to control your craft (0) to intercept the Jewelites (*) while avoiding the mutant asteroids (X) which will destroy your craft on impact. If you capture all the Jewelites, you move onto the next wave. Each wave is denser and more aggressive than the previous one.

ACE Invaders is a side view single screen shooter where you control a spacecraft at the bottom of the screen, moving left or right, and blast various aliens that appear at the top of the screen moving downwards. You must keep blasting the aliens to prevent them from landing on the bottom of the screen and if one reaches the bottom then it is game over.

Alien Defender is a single screen shooter where the idea is to move around the screen in your spacecraft blasting as many aliens as you can trying to have more kills than the aliens. When you blast an alien your kill score increases but if you are touched then the aliens kill score increases. Before the start of the game you can select the speed from 1 - 999 with one being the fastest and as you play the speed increases. Moving off the edge of the screen makes you appear on the opposite side.

Amazing Maze is a maze game. The maze is viewed from above and the players start out on each side of the labyrinth. The objective is then simple: to make it through the maze to the starting position. Before starting out the player has a few second to study the maze before it starts. The layout of the maze is randomly generated before a game and according to the manufacturer there are more than a million different patterns.

You have been separated from your friends while walking on the moors when a storm appeared and now you are lost with dusk falling. You have managed to come across shelter called Haunted Hall and discovered it is empty except for all the coffins that lay around the place. The door to leave the place has disappeared so you have no choice but to explore to find another exit but entering the attic you realize you are not alone with the many rooms full of ghosts and poltergeists. Atic Raid is an top view flick-screen arcade adventure where you must move around the 100 rooms of the attic finding objects to use like keys and transporters to get to the exit. Once you find a way out of the attic you must attempt to navigate a maze to finally find freedom. In each room is a ghost and occasionally poltergeists but boomerangs can also be found to shoot and stun them. Food is also needed to be found to stay alive and if you touch a ghost or poltergeist then you lose one of 20 lives.

Black Island Adventure is a text adventure over various chapters where you start your adventure in a harbour of a great city. Further investigation of the harbour, you soon realise it is deserted due to an outbreak of a plague and thus the adventure begins. The screen has text describing each location you visit and you type in commands with the keyboard to interact with each location.

You are the pilot of a plane that has run out of fuel and so your only option is to glide the plane down to land. Problem is the only place below is a city and so your only option is to bomb the city to remove the buildings. The game is viewed from the side on a single screen and your plane starts in the top left of the screen and moves across. When the plane reaches the right side it appears on the left but one place down. You must keep dropping bombs and if you touch a building it is game over.

Breakout is a recreation of the original arcade game. In the game the player moves the paddle at the bottom of the screen and has to try and keep the ball from hitting the bottom. At the top of the screen there are stones which disappear when the ball hits them. Removing stones is worth points. The higher up the stone is located, the bigger its value. The player has several lives before he or she goes game over.

Cavern Attack is a side view scrolling game where you control a submarine, moving up or down, to destroy as many monsters as you can. The screen scrolls constantly from left to right and you must avoid touching the sides of the cavern as you ram the monsters. The monsters have spat out torpedoes and these need avoiding and if you touch one or the sides of the cavern, then it is game over. There is an option to play a Slow or Fast game.

Centipede is based on the arcade game where you control a craft at the bottom of the screen and blast a Centipede at the top of the screen, moving across the screen and downwards when it hits the edge of the screen or a mushroom. When you hit the Centipede it splits into two and moves in different directions, and hitting the new Centipedes creates more moving across the screen. Blasting mushrooms give you bonus points and you are able to move forwards up the screen a short distance. If you are touched by any part of the Centipede then you lose one of three lives.

The deep space cargo vessel, Cygnus has been attacked by pirates from the planet Retipujeca who have killed all the crew and stolen all the cargo. As the incident was in your sector, you the leader of a Galaxy Patrol squad must board the vessel to investigate what happened on board. As the boarding hatch is damaged, and the only way to enter is with a backpack, you have also decided to go alone and to also prove your worth as a leader. Cygnus is an arcade adventure where you must investigate three floors of the vessel, with each floor shown on the whole screen from above. You must move from room to room as quick as possible as there is only a limited supply of oxygen. Objects like keys can be found and used elsewhere on the vessel. Also on board are robots which move around the vessel and will shoot at anyone on board and if you are shot, touch a robot or run out of air, then it is game over.

You are Jumpman and your aim in this single screen platform game is to collect all the fruit before ringing a bell on the top left of the screen. You must collect all the fruits in a certain order with the next fruit to collect shown on the bottom of the screen. There are various creatures and obstacles that need avoiding like springs, skulls and gaps in the platforms and if you touch one then you lose one of three lives. To get to higher platforms you can take a lift but can lose a life if not entered or exited correctly.

Missile Man + Space Fighter Pilot is a double games pack that contains the following games: Missile Man: A single screen shooter where you control a spacecraft at the bottom of the screen, moving left or right, firing missiles upwards to blast aliens above. The aliens are in formation and move to the left and right and will drop bombs which need avoiding. One of the aliens will break from formation and fall downwards diagonally dropping bombs and if you touch a bomb or an alien then you lose one of three lives. Space Fighter Pilot: Starting on a runway, you take-off into deep space where you have the ability to warp at two speeds looking for missiles that are being fired. As you warp through space you can select to stop and stop the missiles by controlling a sight at the top of the screen attempting to hit any missiles moving upwards. You can warp at anytime to look for more missiles.

Moo + Hangman is a double games pack that contains the following games: Moo: Based on the board game Mastermind, the idea is to guess a four digit number the computer is thinking off. Once you enter a number, the computer will tell you how many digits are correct and in the right place (Bulls) and how many are correct but in the wrong place (Cows). Hangman: A two player game based on the pen and paper game where one player enters a word and the other player has to guess it. The player guessing enters a letter and if correct then the letter appears in the word and if it is wrong then part of a scaffold appears. After so many guesses and a picture of a scaffold appears with a hanged man, then that player has lost.

Othello is based on the board game where two players try to get the most counters on a 8 x 8 grid. The game starts with each player having two counters in the centre of the board diagonally from each other. Each player then proceeds to place a counter either vertical, horizontal or diagonally from one of their counters with the other players counters in between. Any counters in between then get turned to that players own colour and then it is the next players turn. The game is won when the board is full or both players can't place a counter, and the player with the most is the winner. A player can either play against the computer or another person.

Overtaker + Brands Hatch is a double game pack that contains two top view driving games. The games are: Overtaker: The aim is to drive up a constantly scrolling road avoiding the other cars for as many points as possible before a clock counts down to zero. You move your car left or right and you can accelerate which makes the other cars appear faster but you receive more points. Brands Hatch: The aim is to drive around a track on a single screen over five laps in the quickest time. You control your car by turning left or right but have no control over the speed. There are other cars that are static in various places on the track and if you hit them or the sides of the track this stops your car.

You play the role of a spaceship pilot in the future who has been marooned on a hostile alien planet and must find his spaceship and fix it to escape. To hinder your progress are fiendish puzzles and a handful of alien NPCs . The interface is purely text driven and there are no illustrations of the rooms that you are in. The text parser uses simple Verb/Noun for commands.

SokoACE is a single screen top view puzzle game where the aim is to get all the boxes on to target dots over 30 maps. Each map is made up of walls and passageways and located in the passageways are a number of boxes and the same amount of target dots. You can only push the boxes, you can't pull them or push more than one box together. Once all the boxes are on the dots you move to the next map but you can move to any map at any time.

Towers of Hanoi is a puzzle game where the idea is to move a pyramid of seven disks of varying sizes in order from Peg 1 to Peg 3. You can move a disk to Peg 1, 2 or 3 but you can't place a disk on another disk that is smaller. As you move a disk your moves counter increases so the aim is to complete the puzzle in the fewest moves.

Zombies & Potholes is a single screen game where the aim is to move around the screen avoiding being touched and killed by zombies while trying to get them to fall down potholes. You are able to move up, down, sideways and diagonally in eight directions and you move one place at a time but pressing S allows you to stay in the same spot for a turn. Once you moved one place, then all the zombies on screen move one place towards you. If you have a pothole between you and the zombie then he will fall into it and once the screen is cleared then you add a point to your win score. Get touched by a zombie and you add a point to your lose score. Two players can play and one player keeps playing before allowing the other player a turn. Before the game you can adjust various parameters and they are, Logic (A or B) which allows you to move off the screen and appear on the opposite side or not, Thinking Time (2 - 100) which is how many seconds to move before the zombies do, Packing Density (10 - 100) which is the number of zombies and potholes on screen, and Difficulty Level (10 - 100).
