Three skill levels are provided - Kids level sets the speed and hook automatically, while Amateur has more margin for error with hook/slice than professional. The game is played from a plan view, with four other (empty) lanes visible. Single matches or a league structure can be played.

10-Yard Fight

10-Yard Fight

Microsoft MSX - Released - December 1, 1983

The main idea of this game is that players take control of a football team and have the task of trying to score a touchdown before the clock runs out. Players start out as a high school team. Games consists of two halves. One touchdown must be scored before time runs out in each half or the game is lost. After a touchdown is scored, the half ends and the 2nd half of the game starts. If the player scores in both halves, they win the game, and then move on to the next level of difficulty. Difficulty levels after high school go from college, pro, then to super. The higher the difficulty, the less amount of time is given for a player to score a touchdown. Since the game is concerned with scoring touchdowns, in the 1 player game the player is always on offense. Players can score points for completing passes and for gaining yards by either rushing or passing. Scoring a touchdown also adds to the players score, as does any remaining time on the clock after the touchdown is scored. Also after a touchdown, the player can add on to their score by kicking an extra point. Other rules on the field include getting a 1st down to add time to the clock. If the player throws an interception or go four downs without getting a 1st down, they are penalized yards. In a 2 player game, the second player plays defense until it's their turn to play offense.

3-D Bomberman

3-D Bomberman

Microsoft MSX - Released - 1984

The game is essentially a remake of the original Bomber Man, but from a first-person perspective. It resembles many early "3D Maze" games that manipulated 2D backdrops and sprites to give the illusion of a 3D environment. This change makes it far more difficult for the player to gain situational awareness of the map, the range of bombs, and the position and movement of Barom enemies. Additionally, indestructible walls have been changed to look identical to destructible ones, which might be due to limitations in the graphics engine

3D KnockOut!

Microsoft MSX - Released - 1985

KnockOut! is a boxing game where your aim is to become World Heavyweight Champion of the world by first becoming European Champion. You have to beat the computer fighters three times to become European Champion before beating the computer three times to become World Champion. Before the fights you can choose the stamina of your boxer and the computers from one to four, with one being the strongest. There is also a two player option which just consists of one fight between both fighters. The last option you have is the ability to create an opponent and this allows you to move the boxer around the ring, throw punches and defend with a limited amount of moves before allowing you the chance to fight him. The fights themselves are viewed from the side with the whole ring on the screen and you take control of the boxer in the red trunks on the right. Each fight consists of four, one minute rounds and you have to knock your opponent down once to win the fight while avoiding being knocked down yourself. You can only move your fighter left and right and throw a left or right punch but you can block punches to the head. As a hit connects with a boxers head, a gauge increases and the speed this increases is how much stamina a fighter has. Once a gauge is full then the fighter is knocked down and the fight is over.

The Korean cartridge hasn't surfaced in recent times so far, but the game was included on HES' 4 Pak as Adventure Kid. It was previously featured on Innovation Technology's ad, but shared the fate of all localizations announced by Innovation.

In this platformer, you can collect spirit balls by defeating two-headed wolves, allowing you to mutate into different beasts such as a werewolf, a dragon, a tiger, a bear and others depending on the version. Each form, tied to a level, comes with special abilities such as flight and powerful attacks, easily superseding the basic set of punches and kicks in your human form.

Amaurote

Amaurote

Microsoft MSX - 1987

The player controls an "Arachnus 4", an armoured fighting-machine that moves on four legs. The player must first select a sector to play in via a map screen and then control the Arachnus as it wanders an isometric view of the cityscape attacking marauding insects and searching for the insect queen using a scanner. The Arachnus attacks by launching bouncing bombs. It can only launch one at a time so if a bomb misses its intended target the player will have to wait until it hits the scenery or bounces against the fence of the play area before he can fire again. Once the queen has been located, the player can radio-in a "supa-bomb" which can be used to destroy the queen. The player can also radio-in other supplies such as additional bombs and even ask to be pulled out of the combat zone. Extra weaponry costs the player "dosh", the in-game currency.

Microsoft MSX - Released - 1989

The engine of your airplane stops while you are flying over the amazon forest, forcing it to make an emergency landing. Alone and without proper equipment, you need to transverse the great forest to reach civilization while avoiding deadly wild animals and several other kinds of dangers on the way. Amazônia is a text-adventure in Portuguese from Brazil. One of the first computer games commercially released on that country, it has a parser inspired by the ones of Infocom and other companies, although not nearly as sophisticated (it has a small vocabulary of 40 or so verbs, it can't process chain commands, but understands pronouns). One unique characteristic of it is the requirement of accentuation on the Portuguese words. The game even provides special key combinations as shortcuts for accents to ensure compatibility with all systems. Given the plot line, the gameplay has a strong emphasis on its survival aspect: even though it is written in first person, the game bizarrely complains about being thirsty ("Hey, I'm thirsty!"). Wild animals randomly appear to threaten the player, and must be dealt swiftly to avoid death.

Accept the challenge of the Master of the World. Cross the red line if you want to get a real taste of danger. Enter a zone of no return for many. You just need to dare! Recharging energy (pressing down) Robur "The Conqueror" is an evil genius inventor who has built the "Espanto", a vehicle capable of running, sailing, diving and flying. He is also endowed with a powerful weapon 200 times more powerful than any known weapon ... and with this he intends to become the Master of the World! John Storm, Washington's chief police inspector, has gotten himself an FBI survival kit and heads to the Robur base to try to stop him. In the middle of his dangerous mission he is discovered, captured and brought before Robur. This, in addition to telling him his plans to exterminate the earth, has destroyed in several pieces the electronic plan of the main circuit of the "Scare". John has managed to break free and get his special equipment to decode the plans. Now, he has to go through the 8 levels of the base in search of the pieces of the plane, decode them and disconnect the electrical equipment before time runs out, will he succeed? ... that only depends on your skill. Arriving at the teleportation platform (the one on the ground, activated by pressing down) We control a character who will have to go through 8 levels in search of the pieces of the plane. In each phase we will find dangers such as lava floors, defense robots ... We have three lives and an energy bar that we can recharge on platforms. The latter is essential since with the amount of defenses that each area has, our energy goes down at lightning speed. In each level there are 2 different types of shards. Some green ones that will rebuild 2% and red ones 5%. To play this game we have to have a quadrant of codes at hand because every time we take a piece, a code will appear at the bottom of the screen and we will have 15 seconds to find the correct number. If we are right, it will add a percentage and if we fail, it will disappear without adding anything. We have 20 minutes to finish the mission. The game has very colorful graphics although quite ornate. They wanted to put so many details on the screen that sometimes we don't see the enemies or their shots coming. It happened without pain or glory. I had this game in its day and it was one of those that "got lost" in a game exchange with a classmate. A pity because although it is not any wonder, it kept me entertained for a good season.

Amoto's Puf

Microsoft MSX - Released - 1988

Your life was quiet, with your job as a messenger, in your small town. But that tranquility ended for you the day that Rockers panda arrived on the town with their bikes and they did nothing but bother you, maybe because they did not like your appearance, or, who knows, maybe what they disliked was that you rode better than them on a motorcycle. You could not do anything, until you remembered that saying: "If you can not defeat your enemy, join him." And so you sent your request to the head of the group. The answer was affirmative, but yes, you had to go through a tough test that had already passed some of them, as lame Johnny, who lost his leg in the test. You should go through a circuit prepared by them without hitting Larry «Kamikaze». If you manage to complete it, your problems will end. Luck!!! Objective: Playing with this typical arcade is very simple. You must eliminate all the luminous points of the screen, passing over them with your blue colored motorcycle, trying not to hit the motorcycle that circulates in the opposite direction and that is violet. For this you can change the track and use the accelerator. If you manage to complete the circuit you will receive a bonus on your marker and you can easily get extra life if you manage to collide with the violet bike in a time limit. Of course, here you can not use the accelerator. The game has 20 levels, with fewer doors as you progress level.

Animal Land

Animal Land

Microsoft MSX - Released - 1987

Enix kickstarted the whole mystery Japanese adventure game craze of the 80s with Portopia Satsujin Renzoku Jiken, which was followed up by two sequels, all three of which were helmed by star developer Yuji Horii. Lesser known is this game, Animal Land Satsujin Jiken (“Animal Land Murder Case”), despite following the same mold…except all of the characters are anthropomorphic animals. The story puts you in the shoes of a rookie canine shamus named Oidon, as he investigates the murder of Gonkichi, a fox and owner of a jewelry store. The story gets even darker when the case interweaves with the suicide a panda named Linlin. The game plays out similarly to all of the others of the era, as you select various commands to investigate crime scenes and quiz suspects. Through rather than the first person labyrinth you explore in the Famicom version of Portopia, instead here’s an overhead scene where you explore a complicated forest. This aspect that makes it stand out, of course, is the setting and the artwork. Due to the limitations (both resolution and palette) of the MSX, it looks quite a bit different than typical adventure games that appeared on the PC88, but the artwork itself is excellent considering its limitations, with a distinctive and appealing style. Human-like animals investigating crimes actually isn’t all that out of th ordinary for the Japanese audience – after all there was a cartoon earlier in the 80s known in English as Sherlock Hound, featuring a canine version of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous detective. (It’s well worth checking out, especially as some episodes were directed by Hayao Miyazaki in the earlier days of his career.) But the concept isn’t just used for stylistic purposes – all of the characters being animals like dogs, cats, foxes and pandas plays into the game’s shocking twist ending, which absolutely couldn’t be done in any type of murder mystery. (As a clue it’s sort of similar to the setup of the Dreamworks animated film Penguins of Madagascar, which was released nearly two decades later. The title of the game also gives a vague hint.) The game was never ported outside of its original MSX appearance, which is saddening, because Animal Land Satsujin Jiken deserves recognition for this alone.

Microsoft MSX - Released - 1984

Agent Captain Blitztek has to find a way through enemy territory to prevent the Axtoatles from taking control of the world. Aquattack is an action game with four levels which partly have varying gameplay mechanics. In level one and two, the player mans a motor boat which needs to travel a certain distance from left to right. Of course there is a lot of enemy opposition which needs to be avoided. Some enemies can be shot while others are out of reach. Fuel is limited and needs to replenished by collecting refreshments dropped by allied planes. Level three is similar; the player uses a hang glider now. There are different enemies to fight and no fuel to collect. In level four, there is a guarded energy field to cross in order to bring four bombs to the other side. However, only one bomb can be transported at once and there is a time limit. After beating all four levels, they loop with more difficult enemies and faster playing speed. The player can take nine hits and the overall goal is to earn as many points as possible before the unavoidable final death occurs.
