18 Wheeler: American Pro Trucker

Arcade - Released - July 26, 2000

A truck driving game from Sega. Race another trucker across the country, carrying cargo and trying to beat the clock. The main purpose is to make it to the finish line with your cargo within a given time. Players choose one of several trucks, each rated in speed, handling, etc. They then race from point to point across the country, hauling cargo (more difficult cargo will increase your pay for that leg of the journey) while avoiding innocent traffic (blare the horn to get drivers out of your way) and trying to outrun a reckless computer opponent (or player two in linked matches). Good performances are rewarded with bonus stages that require players to maneuver the truck in tight alleyways and park the truck in a limited amount of time.

18 Wheeler: American Pro Trucker

18 Wheeler: American Pro Trucker

Sega Dreamcast - Released - May 25, 2001

The main purpose of the game is to make it to the finish line with the truck's cargo. Players are given a set amount of time, but can ram into special vans that will add three seconds to the timer. There are several characters to choose from, each with a unique truck and attributes. The game starts out in Key West and players travel across the United States, ending in San Francisco. After Stage 1, the game gives the player a choice of trailer. One trailer is harder to haul, but provides a bigger payoff while the other choice is easier to haul but provides a smaller payoff. Money is deducted from the total when the trailer is hit. Players can sound the truck's horn to make other cars on the road yield and slipstream behind large vehicles to gain a momentary speed boost. In addition to the time limit, players also compete with the "Lizard Tail", a rival trucker. Crossing the finish line before the Lizard Tail yields additional money. In between levels, players can park the truck in a mini game to earn more cash.

2 Spicy

2 Spicy

Arcade - Released - April 1, 2007

2 Spicy is a cover based third person shooter made for arcades. The game is built around one-on-one fights between two players and is controlled with light guns and pedals. Pointing the gun at the screen allows the player to fire at the enemy while pointing away from the screen causes the player character to hide behind a cover such as an oil drum or a pillar. Moving between different covers is done by stepping on one of two pedals, causing the character to move either left or right. Stepping on a pedal twice allows the player to do jump shots when aiming at the screen and a dodge when aiming away. Aiming on the enemy for a certain amount of time causes the camera to zoom in and the player's attack power will be increased and it is possible to do a head shot for a large amount of damage. It's possible to destroy some of the covers and an nearby enemy will take damage and be knocked out. When knocked out the player has to quickly step on a pedal to get back up. There are two game modes: versus mode and story mode. The versus mode can be played in multiplayer by connecting two cabinets or against an AI opponent on a single machine. A match is won by the player that first wins a specified number of rounds which happens when the opponent's health level goes down to zero. The winner moves on to the next stage which is played against an AI opponent. In the story mode each of the game's six characters has its own story. The objective is to clear missions which involve defeating an enemy within a time limit. The player has three mission stars and when failing a mission a star is deducted. The game ends when the player runs out of stars but it is possible to gain more stars by completing bonus missions.

3D Fantasy Zone II W

Nintendo 3DS - Released - July 16, 2014

Fantasy Zone II: The Tears of Opa-Opa is the sequel to Fantasy Zone, in which you control Opa-Opa, a pretty colored ship with wings on its side. You must destroy the large creatures in each world before moving on to the next. Your task becomes difficult by other small creatures that happen to pass by. If you destroy a large creature, they will drop a dollar bill, which you can pick up and use at the shop to buy items and powerful weapons such as laser beams, x-way shots, and big wings. Another way to get money is to shoot certain kinds of enemies all in a row. More often than not, some large creatures will reveal a warp gate rather than a dollar bill. You can go through the warp gate to get to another part of the land, and destroy more large creatures. Only one of them will have a warp gate in the form of a 'stop' sign - that is your ticket to the round boss, but you must defeat all large creatures in order to pass through it. Also like in the original can you walk on the ground to avoid approaching enemies, and spend money in the shop to get new weapons (but they only last for a limited time).

3D Out Run

3D Out Run

Nintendo 3DS - Released - March 12, 2015

3D third-person racing game. The player controls a car, a Ferrari Testarossa Spider, from a rear third-person perspective. In contrast to other third-person racing games at the time where the camera is some distance above the horizon to see into the distance, Out Run places the camera near the ground, directly behind the car, simulating a Ferrari driver's perspective view and limiting the player's view into the distance. The road also curves and dips, which, combined with the low perspective, increases the challenge by making it difficult to see what is on the other side of a hill. The player must race to the end of each stage as fast as possible against a time limit while avoiding traffic. At the end of each stage, the player is presented with a fork in the road where the player must choose one of two stages. The left route presents an easier stage, while the right offers a greater challenge. Passing through checkpoints awards the player with extra time. Once the timer reaches zero or the player completes the race, the game ends. In addition to the nonlinear gameplay, Out Run also offered the choice of music to listen to while driving, represented as radio stations.

3D Sonic the Hedgehog 2

3D Sonic the Hedgehog 2

Nintendo 3DS - Released - August 15, 2010

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is a side-scrolling platformer based around speed, and the sequel to Sonic the Hedgehog. Like the original, players run through different worlds called "zones", which each have their own specific theme. There are two Acts in nearly all of the 10 Zones, and at the end of each Zone's last Act is a machine that Robotnik controls, which you must defeat to progress. The evil Dr. Robotnik wants to conquer the world. In order to do that, he imprisons and transforms all animals into robots called "Badniks". This way they can build his powerful weapon, the Death Egg. Only Sonic the Hedgehog, and his new tagalong partner, Miles 'Tails' Prower, can stop Robotnik and his army of Badniks from taking over the world. Sonic and Tails can collect rings which are scattered throughout all of the levels. As with most platformers, when the player collects 100 rings, they earn an extra life. However, the rings also act as protection; if Sonic is hurt when he is carrying rings, they scatter everywhere and he is briefly invincible. If he is hit again when he has no rings, he'll lose a life. If the player reaches a continue point lamppost with 50 or more rings, they'll be able to access the Special Stage. In this stage, you must gather a set amount of rings in a halfpipe-like stage before you reach a checkpoint. Complete all the checkpoints and you'll earn one of the seven Chaos Emeralds. New to Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is the ability to play the game co-op with a friend - at any time, a player can plug in a second controller and take over the AI controlled Tails. Tails has infinite lives and the camera remains focused on Sonic, meaning that Tails will not hinder play. Sonic (and Tails) can now also get speed from a standing start by holding down and repeatedly pressing the jump button for a "spin dash". This is useful when stuck near steep slopes or other areas where you need some momentum. The game also features a 2-player versus mode. This mode is a horizontally split-screen race through levels based on three of the zones in the single player game. The mobile version (iOS/Android) contains ten new levels in a new environment called Hidden Palace Zone, a boss attack mode, upgraded graphics, faster frame rate, a re-mastered soundtrack, and Knuckles as a third playable character.

A.M.O.K.

A.M.O.K.

Sega Saturn - Released - January 17, 1997

The object of this arcade-type game is to meet a series of objectives, and to do so in such a way that each side will blame the other. The game has a linear structure, based on levels that present tasks of increasing difficulty, and all sorts of hazards and targets are encountered. These include military bases, power generators, land mines, infantry, tanks, submarines -- even sharks and huge, aggressive birds. Infantry elements are poorly armored, so they can be killed by being run over. In one mission, the only way that the player will be able to get enough time to escape is to open with a surprise attack, slowing pursuit by destroying a parking facility full of unattended troop transport vehicles. Power-ups are scattered throughout the levels. The Slambird carries a variety of explosive devices and line-of-sight weapons. Some of the explosive weapons can bounce in a parabolic trajectory, and in addition there are two laser cannons that can fire rapidly an unlimited number of times. These cannons are useful in case no other weapons remain, and they can be used to create complex ripple fire, which can be used to cover an area that is surprisingly wide. When underwater, propellers are used, while torpedoes are automatically used instead of missiles.

After Burner: Black Falcon

Sony PSP - Released - March 20, 2007

After Burner: Black Falcon is the fourth game in the After Burner series, released almost fifteen years after the previous game. Just like the earlier ones it is an action based flying game, shown from a third-person perspective. Familiar characteristics are the fast pace, taking on many enemies at once with a combination of hit-scan and lock-on weapons, and evasive manoeuvres through rolls. The game consists of 24 levels. Players choose from three pilots (Billy Blaze, Harrison Duke and Tomiko Rossellini) to go after the terrorist cell Black Falcon that has stolen thirteen prototype planes. Each pilot brings along different plot twists and there are nineteen different planes to fly (mostly jets). They can be equipped with weapons and items, or be given a paint job. The game takes place on locations all over the world and while flying there are often short sequences by the pilots. There are also many objects in the scenery that need to be avoided or destroyed. Missions have main objectives and side missions that brings along more money for upgrades. As usual, there are large bosses that wield weapons such as EMP. Multiplayer is supported for eight players, in competitive modes and a two-player cooperative mode.

After Burner: Climax

After Burner: Climax

Arcade - Released - June 12, 2006

After Burner Climax is a sequel to the long-running After Burner series. Just like the previous games players command an aircraft from a third-person view, engaging enemies, dodging enemy fire and rockets and navigating through canyons and narrow passages. Gameplay requires quick reflexes and is arcade-like in design. The iconic F-14 Super Tomcat of the previous games has been replaced by a F-14D Super Tomcat with the addition of two new aircraft, F/A-18E Super Hornet and F-15E Strike Eagle. In the standard EX arcade mode there is a branching mission path with various objectives. Sometimes enemies need to be engaged, while other times friendly fighters help along, stealth must be used, or a specific target needs to be pursued and taken out. There are two main weapons: regular cannon fire for close distances and rockets that can only be used when they are locked on. There is also a Climax gauge that can be activated when it is full. Time slows down and multiple enemies can be targeted. As soon as the aircraft leaves the Climax mode, all selected targets are engaged with rockets at once. Cannon fire is unlimited, and rockets as well, as long as the player does not use them constantly. At the same time enemy rockets need to be dodged by moving up, down, left or right, or doing barrel rolls. Just like the previous game in the series there is a limited amount of manoeuvrability without complete freedom. It is however possible to move the speed of the aircraft. During the games players can unlock many EX options to further customize the arcade mode, as well as make available different paint schemes: Standard, Camouflage, Special and Low Visibility. There is also a secondary scoring mode with an unlimited amount of credits.

Air Rescue

Air Rescue

Arcade - Released - April 1, 1992

Air Rescue is based on the game Choplifter but from a 1st person perspective as you must fly your helicopter into enemy territory and rescue stranded soldiers. You must take off from your base and fly to a landing site where your men are waiting. On the way you will encounter soldiers and a range of vehicles which need blasting and destroying with either your cannon or missiles. When you land you must wait for the men to run towards you and board while under fire. You can only carry eight and on later Missions this means multiple trips. Once your helicopter is full you must fly back to your base and land where the men will disembark. If your quota is more than 8 then take-off and rescue the rest. As you fly, your fuel gauge gets lower so you have to rescue men as quick as possible. You can re-fuel once back in your base. If you run out of fuel mid-air then it's game over.

A Sega Master System game of the same name was released later in 1992, but had little in common with the arcade version. Airline Pilots

Airline Pilots

Arcade - Released - March 1, 1999

Airline Pilots is a flight simulator released for Sega NAOMI arcade hardware in 1999. The game simulates flying a Boeing 777 aircraft, and was developed with the input of engineers and pilots from Japan Airlines. Two different cabinet models were manufactured. The default type is a typical sit down cabinet with one monitor, while the "DX type" cabinet features three side-by-side 29" monitors, which surround the player to create a "cockpit". The extreme difficulty of "Airline Pilots", combined with a lack of interest in realistic flight simulators, led Sega to manufacture a conversion kit which allowed owners to convert the units into the more popular Sega Strike Fighter. As a result, Airline Pilots cabinets are relatively rare.

In its original form, Alien Front was not brought to home consoles, however it was retooled and given an online focus in the form of Alien Front Online for the Sega Dreamcast. Alien Front Online

Alien Front Online

Sega Dreamcast - Released - August 9, 2001

Alien Front Online is a Dreamcast video game originally released for the console in 2001. In the game, players use armored vehicles to fight tense battles staged in large, interactive arenas. Players could choose which side they wished to fight for, the aliens or the human defenders of Earth, and could also choose one of three different vehicles to combat with; each having its own advantages and disadvantages. Although Alien Front was fully playable for one person, it was primarily designed as an online game in which up to 8 players (up to 4 on each side) could battle it out. Players move around the arena attempting to blast each other with their weaponry, while also looking for power-ups that will enhance their ability to wreak massive destruction. Typically, the game was played for a set number of minutes, after which the team with the most kills would be declared the winners. Being killed while playing the game had no serious consequences (you simply respawned in a different part of the area you were in), but it did reflect on your win/loss score.

Alien Syndrome

Alien Syndrome

Sony PSP - Released - July 24, 2007

Alien Syndrome is a top down shooter inspired by Sega's original Alien Syndrome action game. The games story takes place thousands of years in the future; by this point in time mankind has explored many parts of the galaxy and established numerous colonies. One such colony, Seti-Alpha 5 (SAT5), has ceased communications for some reason and it is your job to head to SAT5 and investigate what went wrong. Upon arrival, you encounter the alien syndrome, a force which can mutate man and machine into deadly aliens. These events take place roughly 100 years after those in the original Alien Syndrome. When you begin the game you can select one of several characters as well as choose a character specialty (such as demolitions expert, firebug, seal, tank, and sharpshooter). The specialty you select will determine your initial character stats; as you play through the game you earn levels which provide you points to allocate towards improving your stats. The character stats help determine your characters accuracy in ranged or close attacks, speed, healing power, resistance to fire/radiation, armor strength, and so on. Similar to the original game, the action is viewed top down. You'll need to explore the numerous corridors and rooms found on SAT5 and eliminate the numerous alien invaders found there. Mission objectives are often provided to you which need to be completed. Additional weapons, ammo, and other useful items can be found throughout the levels. Your character has a limited amount of energy, and if all energy is lost then you will need to begin again at the last checkpoint crossed.

Nintendo Switch - Released - December 5, 2019

Alien: Isolation places an emphasis on stealth and survival horror gameplay, requiring the player to avoid and outsmart a single Alien creature with tools such as a motion tracker and flamethrower. It was designed to resemble the original film rather than its more action-oriented 1986 sequel Aliens, and features a similar lo-fi, 1970s vision of what the future would look like. The game runs on an engine built from scratch to accommodate technical aspects such as atmospheric and lighting effects and the Alien's behaviour. Creative Assembly intended to make Alien: Isolation a third-person game, but used first-person to create a more intense experience.

Aliens vs. Predator

Aliens vs. Predator

Sony Playstation 3 - Released - February 19, 2010

Aliens vs Predator is an update of the 1999 PC game Aliens Versus Predator, in which the player can choose either Marine, Xenomorph (commonly known as Aliens) or Predator in a first-person shooter. The story takes place on the planet designated BG-386, in a mining colony owned by the Weyland-Yutani Corporation where they have found a mysterious site; an ancient pyramid that depicts an unknown alien race and the Xenomorphs. Curious, they decide to forcibly open the doors and cause a massive energy backlash that causes the power on the entire planet to go out, unleashing hell in the process. This is where the story begins for the three factions: Marine: The player takes control of the "Rookie" as they are dispatched to the planet to investigate the distress signal. Once arriving they realize that a Alien outbreak has occurred and the player must traverse various environments. There are various weapons such as a pistol, pulse rifle, sniper rifle, flamethrower, shotgun and the smart gun the player can use against the various enemies scattered throughout the stages. There is also the iconic motion tracker that can pick up on enemy movement, flares and a flashlight for seeing in very dark spaces and stims that will replenish their health. Aliens: The player takes control of an Alien nicknamed "Six". Captured and raised by Weyland-Yutani scientists, Six has been hearing the call of the Matriarch for a period of time, desperate to escape and join his brethren. When the power in the colony goes out, Six escapes and begins to wreak havoc against the humans and propagate his species across the planet. The Aliens are considered very weak and vulnerable and only have their claws and tails as weapons, but possess great speed and the ability to climb on walls and ceilings. Health can automatically regenerate, but the player can bite the head of a fallen enemy to automatically regenerate their health. Predators: The player takes control of a Youngblood; fresh from training he receives word from the Predator council that a distress signal from a long lost hunting ground has been set off. He is then dispatched to the planet to investigate, upon arriving he discovers humans have taken over the planet and unleashed the serpents (The term the Predators use for the Aliens) upon the planet. The council orders him to wipe out the human and alien presence and discover the secret of the hunting grounds. Weapons include the Plasma Caster, Wrist blades, Combi-Stick, Mines and the Smart Disc with health being replenished through shards. The Predator can also leap across long distances, mimic voices to distract victims away from groups and use their signature cloaking device to move through enemy encampments without being detected.

Aliens: Colonial Marines

Windows - Released - February 12, 2013

Aliens: Colonial Marines is a squad-based first-person shooter in which the player controls four Colonial Marines, each with a different personality and primary weapon. Each player character can carry additional weapons including a flamethrower, pulse rifle, smartgun, pistol, RPG, and many types of grenades. The player controls one marine at a time, issues orders to the others using context-sensitive commands, and may switch between characters at any time. The player will also occasionally be required to control a particular location, using tactical positioning and turrets to fend off attacks. Aliens: Colonial Marines will have no HUD to provide the player with onscreen information. The primary enemies of the game are Aliens which will generally attempt to sneak up on or outflank the player, forcing the player to use tactical combat to confront them. Several different types of Aliens will appear and will attack differently. Facehuggers will attempt to attach themselves to the player character's face, implanting an embryo inside them which will then kill them. "Warrior" Aliens are the primary enemies and are based primarily on the appearance of the Alien in Aliens. "Scouts" are faster and will spy on the player characters' activities. They will work in small groups or alone. These Aliens will be based on the appearance seen in Alien. "Drones" primarily carry and position eggs and work in the heart of the Hive serving the Queen; they were originally going to be in Aliens along with the "Warriors". An Alien queen will also appear as a "boss" enemy.

Aliens: Colonial Marines

Aliens: Colonial Marines

Sony Playstation 3 - Released - February 12, 2013

Aliens: Colonial Marines is a first-person shooter based on the Aliens franchise and a sequel to the 1986 film Aliens, the second film in the series. The events take place directly after those of the film. The player takes control of the United States Colonial Marine Christopher Winter who is part of a search and rescue team that has to investigate the space ship U.S.S. Sulaco and what remains of Hadley’s Hope to find out what has happened to Ellen Ripley, Dwayne Hicks and the rest of the team that was sent to Acheron (LV-426), a fictional location as one of the three moons of Calpamos, located in the Zeta II Reticuli system. The team arrives on the space ship U.S.S. Sephora seventeen weeks after the distress call by Hicks was sent out. The single-player campaign consists of eleven missions. Gameplay is centered around shooting opponents and sometimes items in the environment require interaction to open doors and such to progress. Some of the included weapons are a pulse rifle, shotgun, pistol, RPG, flamethrower and smartgun. Sentry turrets can be set up to defend specific areas. The turrets, along with the flamethrower and the smartgun, are not permanently available but are reserved for specific sections. There is no limitation on the amount of weapons that can be carried at a single moment. There is a motion tracker to scan movement in areas 180 degrees in front of the character. Ammo and armour upgrades can be picked up along the way. A flashlight is used to illuminate dark environments and a welder is available to cut open doors. In additional there is an leveling/experience system unified for both single-player and multiplayer where the earned points can be used to unlock new attachments and aesthetic enhancements for weapons and the main character. Most of the missions are not played alone. There is a squad of AI-controlled team mates who assist. They act independently and their behaviour cannot be influenced by the player. Many missions take place inside the space ship, but also often outside. There are a few stealth segments where all weapons are removed and no sound can be made while walking through a large amount of aliens. Opponents include famous xenomorph aliens from the first three films, such as the chestburster, drone, facehugger, queen, warrior and runner. There are also new types, such as a boiler that can explode and a crusher. Certain levels include encounters with human soldiers from the Weyland-Yutani corporation with a different interest in the colony. There are also a number of boss fights. Multiplayer is available as a cooperative campaign for two (split-screen) or four (online) players. Competitive multiplayer modes include Escape, Extermination, Survivor and Team Deathmatch. Escape and Survivor draw inspiration for the Left 4 Dead series. In the first, four human players need to reach a destination, while in the second they need to barricade themselves and survive as long as possible. In both modes both sides (humans and aliens) are controlled by human players. Playing as xenomorphs, there is a large emphasis on using the environment to travel along walls, ceilings and through vents for unexpected attacks. Different types of aliens are available and these too have different customization options and attacks unlocked as the player levels up.

Alpha Protocol

Alpha Protocol

Microsoft Xbox 360 - Released - June 1, 2010

Billed as an "espionage RPG," Alpha Protocol casts you in the role of secret agent Michael Thorton as he embarks on a series of international operations set in Rome, Moscow, Tai Pei, Saudi Arabia, and other exotic locales. From inside computer-equipped safe houses around the world, you'll converse with your handlers, glean intelligence, review dossiers, and receive new missions. What sets Alpha Protocol apart from traditional action games is the level of customization you have over your character and the options you have while interacting with others. Key role-playing features like dialogue trees, skill points, and equipment upgrades are included, with characters who will react in different ways based on your approach and reputation. The action takes place from a third-person perspective as you complete objectives however you see fit, depending on the direction of your character. Stealth-oriented spies can complete the entire game without killing an enemy, while destructive types can bring out the body armor and heavy artillery. Action points can be assigned to an assortment of attributes, from stealth and pistols to sabotage and technical aptitude, which all lead to different skills. Cash earned by completing missions can also be spent in multiple ways, from powerful weapons on the black market to hiring mercenaries to purchasing various gun modifications for improving stats in areas like damage, accuracy, recoil, stability, and ammunition capacity.

Alpha Protocol: The Espionage RPG

Alpha Protocol: The Espionage RPG

Sony Playstation 3 - Released - June 1, 2010

Michael Thorton. A name without a past. A person whose life before joining Alpha Protocol no longer exists. Alpha Protocol being a clandestine service without any ties to the US government and specialized in covert operations to protect home and country. Thorton's mission: Assassinate the leader of Al-Samad known as "Shaheed". Shaheed's crime: Destroying a passenger plane in the Middle East. An easy task it would seem. But life is never that easy - especially if one has to deal with terrorists. In the end, Shaheed is just the beginning of a greater conspiracy and it's up to Mike and the player to solve it. Alpha Protocol is a hybrid of role-playing game and shooter, bearing certain similarities to Deus Ex. The player takes control of Michael Thorton after his initiation into the world of Alpha Protocol, looking over his shoulder. At the start of the game, the player has to choose one of four classes (Soldier, Field Agent, Tech Specialist, Freelancer). The choice mostly determines his past as he can change all pre-defined skills before the final start of the game. In addition the player has to customize the basic look of Mike, although during the course of the game he is still able to change his appearance at his safe house and certain lockers scattered around the levels. He is limited to facial features (including color) and clothing, however. After the first mission, the player advances the story by sending the protagonist to Rome, Moscow and Taipei, in any order. Here, the player is able to select and prepare his next mission in peace. There's a TV which allows the player to keep up with current events (or get new assignments), a weapons locker to choose his load-out with and, more importantly, a computer to check his email and visit the "Clearinghouse". The latter is a black market service where the player can sell stuff he found during missions and buy additional gear (including weapons, armor and special items) or upgrades like a bigger magazine for the pistol. The money needed for that, however, the player has to earn himself. Alpha Protocol doesn't want to be traced back to Mike, so during the missions, the player not only fulfills his given objectives (may they be capturing or killing an enemy or finding intel), but is also on the lookout for money-bags lying around or ways to convince other people to give him some. The conversation system is somewhat similar to Mass Effect 2, offering several different choices. that do not spell out the whole sentence, but only the tone or topic of the answer. As opposed to the BioWare game, the player only has a limited time to make his/her choice. The amount of available choices the player has greatly depends on how much Mike knows about the person he's facing, increasing the need for him to gather intel before, during and after missions. One way again is the Clearinghouse which also offers ways to make a mission easier like bribing a bunch of guards to not show up for work that day. Depending on his choice during a dialogue or simply by answering an email a special way and during normal gameplay, not only his relationship with the person he's talking to changes - news of the player's actions travel around the world, changing how enemies and friends alike view the player even before their first encounter, making it sometimes easier or more difficult for Mike to persuade his opponent. Every person in the game even reacts to certain kinds of attitudes better than others. Being suave to Mina (another employee of Alpha Protocol) may seem a good idea at first but she's more into the professional type for example. If all fails and on his way to the main target, Mike has several other options to deal with a situation, the most obvious one being to pull out one of his several different types of guns and shoot his way through the mission. But even then just going in and pulling the trigger is mostly a waste of ammo as taking the time and aim increases not only the accuracy but also the change to score a critical hit. If the player is more of a peaceful and/or sneaky nature, he can however take the stealth-route. This allows him to make one-hit take downs of an unsuspecting enemy as well as avoid many obstacles. Especially sneaking around involves a lot of hacking, lock-picking doors and rerouting electronics to go around enemies, stop alarms or just get additional intel. Each of these tasks involves a small mini-game which increases in difficulty as the player advances through the game. Each kill, hack, successful dialogue and completed mission objective earns Mike experience points which in turn allow him to level up and earn advancement points. These are used to upgrade the nine available skills like "Stealth" or "Assault Rifles" up to 10 times. If a skill is completely upgraded, the player can then choose to specialise it, unlocking 5 additional ranks to dump points in. This can, however, only be done for three skills. Investing points into a skill unlocks both permanent bonuses like less recoil when using a pistol to special abilities. "Awareness" for example is a stealth-ability which allows the player to see all enemies and which direction they are currently facing even through walls. At higher stealth-ranks, this effect becomes permanent.

Altered Beast (Mega-Tech)

Altered Beast (Mega-Tech)

Arcade - Released

The Mega-Tech System is an arcade cabinet released by Sega in 1989, and Western counterpart to the Mega 6. It was based on the Sega Mega Drive home console, and was designed similarly to Nintendo's PlayChoice-10: players chose games from a menu of eight titles, with credits buying more play time (usually 1 minute per credit) rather than extra lives or continues; reaching a game over screen does not end the play session, and players can start over or choose a different game as long as there was some play time remaining. The Mega-Tech was not released in North America, though did see use in Asia and the PAL regions. Altered Beast is a side scrolling, platform, beat 'em up game that puts the player in control of a centurion who had died in battle. The centurion has been raised from the dead to rescue Zeus' daughter Athena from the demon Neff. The player battles undead and demonic hordes, controlling the shapeshifting hero. He must fight through several levels in order to save the kidnapped goddess. You are a hero risen from the dead on a mission to rescue Zeus' daughter from the clutches of an evil magician. Kill the flashing white wolves to reveal power-ups. As you collect more power-ups you gain more muscles, and eventually you will transform into a beast, a different one each level. These beasts are: a werewolf, a flying weredragon, a werebear, a weretiger and finally the Golden Werewolf. Level two features head suckers that can be shaken off by moving the joystick left and right quickly, very difficult to work out if you don't know the game.

Amazing Island

Amazing Island

Nintendo GameCube - Released - August 25, 2004

The 'black evil' has taken over the island, and the Maboo Tribe have called upon you to bring order and outcast the evil that has taken control. To do so, you must create your own creature and train it up, entering it into various competitions against the 'black evil' and working towards the main goal. As the competitions are completed, you will unlock new features to improve your own creature in speed, strength and general looks. The main reason to do so are the mini games which the monsters can participate in. While those rely on your active gamepad skills (mostly pressing a button as fast as possible with minor variations), the changes of success are dictated by the monster's statistics. So for example a dragon would be beneficial for a flying mini game. Those statistics can be further enhanced with items bought at shops. Play single and multiplayer battles on the GameCube, or upload your creatures to the Game Boy Advance, taking them on the road to challenge your friends and unlocking unique items and features for the creatures you design.

Anarchy Reigns

Anarchy Reigns

Sony Playstation 3 - Released - July 5, 2012

Anarchy Reigns is a third-person brawler fighting game where players choose one of the sixteen available fighters to duke it out in large arenas. Each character is defined through different types of weak and strong attacks with a trademark weapon, a specific fighting style, throws, and different moves that can be chained into combos. They also have access to a move that clears the surrounding area and many moves are very violent and over the top. It is possible to lock on to a single character and performing evasive actions. A rampage mode is charged up while fighting and there are also bonus items such as shields or rocket launchers. The game incorporates Action Trigger Events (A.T.E.) where actions in the environments can be triggered to influence the combat. Examples of these are plane crashes, black holes or a blitz bombing. The game's backstory describes Earth as a mutant-infested wasteland with monsters and cyborgs following a new world war. The focus is largely on multiplayer with game modes that include Battle Royale, Capture the Flag, Death Ball, Death Match, Survival and Tag Team, for up to sixteen players simultaneously. There is also a singleplayer campaign that largely shares the assets of the multiplayer environments. It is split up into two parts, one for Jack Cayman, the Gator Tooth double chainsaw-wielding protagonist from MadWorld and one for Leonhardt "Leo" Victorion,—a new character—an agent of the Bureau's Strike One unit who wields positron blades that can be charged. In the single-player portion there are many hub areas where a certain amount of enemies need to be defeated in order to progress and enter new missions. At certain points the campaigns cross over. Jack and Leo are enemies and they both want to hunt down Maximillian Caxton responsible for killing Jack's daughter. After the four stages of each campaign (White and Black), Red is opened up as an additional one. There are four other characters who return from MadWorld: Big Bull (cyborg with a human brain), Blacker Baron, Mathilda (uses her Iron Maiden spiked club), and Rin Rin (uses the Yanlong blades). Next to Leo the new characters are Ai Rin (with the Huanglong lightning nunchucks), Douglas Williamsburg (with twin pilebunkers), Durga (cyborg bounty hunter who uses martial arts and a revolver cannon attached to his leg), Edgar Oinkie (can turn into a reptile), Fei Rin (with the ice trident Zilong), Garuda (as a mech who can transform into a jet plane), Maximillian Caxton (with both positron blades and tesla blitz), Nikolai Dmitri Bulygin (with tesla coils), Sasha Ivanoff (with an ice blade), and Zero (cybernetic ninja with katanas).

Apollo 13

Apollo 13

Pinball - Released - 1995

Apollo 13 is a 1995 pinball game designed by Joe Balcer and Joe Kaminkow, released by Sega Pinball, based on the film of the same name. Kevin Bacon (Jack Swigert), Bill Paxton (Fred Haise), and Gary Sinise (Ken Mattingly) provided custom speech for this game. This is a very dense pinball table; playfield toys include an elevating Saturn V rocket, a lunar LEM module, a countdown LED, and a rotating Moon. Collect orbits around the table to Advance the Spacecraft around the Moon and return to Earth, and perform various Apollo Missions along the way — perform a manual burn to straighten the orbiter, fix the Life Support systems, fix the CO2 scrubbers, and take care of the Master Alarm. For more points, shoot the Saturn and load up for multiball, or use gravitynote to slingshot pinballs over the Moon. Even with all these features, the biggest appeal of the game is its 13 Ball Blastoff Multiball, where thirteen balls are unloaded onto the playfield. Up to six people can play at once, either individually or in teams, and the game offers "Novice" and "Wizard" difficulty settings for players.

While the spaceship can fire destructive lasers for major damage, the robot can raise a shield that will protect from enemy attacks for some time and instantly kill anything that touches it.
