Dark Souls

Dark Souls

Sony Playstation 3 - Released - September 22, 2011

Long ago, before humans existed, the world was ruled by dragons. However, when humans came along, the dragons were all but wiped out thanks to the Four Lords, mighty god-like beings who defeated them in an epic battle. The Age of Fire began, a golden age for humanity, but such prosperity could not last. A curious affliction has started to appear: called the Darksign, those it brands are cursed to become an immortal undead, forever returning from death until they ultimately lose their minds. It is said that one day, a Chosen Undead will appear, and a great change will occur in the world. One of the many undead manages to escape the asylum he was locked in, which is seen as the first sign for the role he will eventually play. Dark Souls is a third-person action RPG and a spiritual successor to 2009's Demon's Souls. Mechanically, it is very similar to its predecessor. The player can choose between several character classes for the protagonist, choose the gender, and customize his or her physical appearance. Character attributes can be manually increased when leveling up. The game takes place in a series of interconnected, mostly dungeon-like areas populated by enemies. Some areas can be accessed freely, though the enemies there may be too hard for the player to tackle at earlier stages. Combat allows detailed options such as active parrying, blocking, rolling, and different attacks with equipped weapon. The player must pay close attention to both their vitality and stamina meters. All actions will reduce stamina, and when the stamina bar is empty the player is left vulnerable. Much like its predecessor, Dark Souls touts its hardcore pedigree and high level of difficulty. Even the most mundane of enemies can be deadly if not handled with care, and many situations will seem impossibly unfair at first glance, but there is always a solution to be found. The game takes place in the kingdom of Lordran, which is a large continuous world where all areas of the game are interconnected. The game also features a unique and extensive online play system, where players can attack or assist each other for benefits, as well as find and leave messages for each other. The player can improve their abilities and equipment using Souls, which are taken from defeated enemies and function both as a currency and experience points. There is also a secondary, much more scarce currency called Humanity, which provides a number of situational benefits. Humanity can be used to revive to human form, which allows the player to kindle bonfires to earn more healing items, as well as to call for assistance from NPCs or other players. However, if the player is defeated, they will revert to hollow, return to the last bonfire they rested at, and lose all souls and humanity they had on them. It can be recovered by reaching the spot where they died, but if they die again before collecting them, they are lost forever.

In Digimon World Data Squad, a new type of digivolution method is used, called the Galactica Evolution System: this will determine what Digimon your partner will evolve into. Allies and enemies will be made based on who the player chooses to engage in combat, eventually becoming trusted friends or bitter rivals. Each pilot has a series of short story missions in Mission Mode that are mostly based on events from their native series, but altered or expanded to make use of the additional characters in the game. Nearly every Official and Mission Mode level can be played in co-operative mode, and there are also competitive modes (both online and off) that pit players against each other in a race to complete objectives or score kills. Pilots grow more powerful as they defeat foes, and they learn new skills from the Mobile Suit they use in combat. A Mobile Suit's stats are derived from its torso and four limbs, each of which can be replaced with better parts by destroying that model MS in combat. Besides the variety of game modes and missions there is also a comprehensive library containing information on all Mobile Suits, battleships, and characters in the game.

Both anime series covers volume 00-18. The first series is Fighting Beauty Wulong and the second is Fighting Beauty Wulong: Rebirth. Both series have approximately 25 episodes apiece. The lead character, Mao Ran, a person of Chinese origin born and raised in Japan, has been trained in the secret martial art of her family by her drunken lecherous grandfather Master Mao Hun. Her grandfather has promised her that he'll tell her what happened to her parents to encourage her to train and fight. Without her knowledge, her grandfather signs her up to participate in a televised martial arts competition between female martial artists known as "Prime Mat". During the course of the manga and anime it is revealed that Ran's mother married Cao Da Hen and gave birth to Ran's step sister Rin chan. The first season of Fighting Beauty Wulong concluded on March 25, 2006 and Bandai rushes a fighting game based on the animation to market this week. The storyline revolves around a girl named Mao Ran who is the reluctant keeper of her family's fighting discipline which adapts well to women's professional wrestling. The PS2 game features 3D grappling action where Ran faces off against other she-devils in the ring as well as training exercises where she rousts groups of Yakuza, a bear, and assorted street goons who materialize out of thin air. As the girls battle on stage, their bosoms seem to shudder with every blow and animated clothing as well as swishy hair add to the kinetic motion of the visuals. Purists will enjoy the Story Mode which faithfully follows the events of the animation and starts off with gramps tricking Ran into a wrestling tournament. Before she battles however, Ran has to punch and kick her way through rain-soaked streets brimming with thugs. Two players may bout in the VS Mode and a Collection Mode allows peepers to check the fighting amazons out as they punch, kick, and otherwise perform according to the options selected on screen. Mao Ran may look like an average teenage girl at first blush, but she is in fact a master of Mao Juhe Kenpo, a secret martial art passed down through her family for generations. After her grandfather and mentor, Master Mao Hung, signs her up for a televised all-female fighting competition called Prime Mat, she decides to take part in order to find out the truth about her parents. Snoopy Vs. The Red Baron

Snoopy Vs. The Red Baron

Sony PSP - Released - October 24, 2006

As Snoopy sleeps atop his doghouse, the player is transported into his dreams about the adventures of his alter ego, the "World Famous WWI Flying Ace." The rest of the Peanuts characters are woven into his dream - and thereby the game's narrative - as they pass by the sleeping beagle. Lucy Van Pelt becomes the commander of the Allied forces, Linus and Sally take humorous turns as intelligence officers, while poor Charlie Brown is characteristically cast as a janitor in an Allied airbase. The story moves quickly after Charlie Brown is captured by the Red Baron's minions along with the plans for a secret weapon that could change the course of the war. Snoopy and his co-pilot Woodstock take to the skies in his trusty Sopwith Camel to recover the plans and rescue Snoopy’s hapless owner. The game mechanics center around third-person action adventure flight in contexts such as aerial races, dogfighting missions, and world exploration. Collectible items in the world unlock plane and weapon upgrades, as well as new character/plane combinations for use in versus multiplayer aerial combat. Hardcore Peanuts fans will recognize the front lines at Verdun, the woods of Montsec and Verdon Gorge as the settings for Snoopy’s original Flying Ace adventures in the comic strip by Charles M. Schulz. The game features 7 of these locations, which often change considerably from mission to mission. The flight model for Snoopy's Sopwith Camel and the other planes in the game leans heavily towards the fanciful arcade end of the realism spectrum. Controls and collision are forgiving and approachable for younger players, although advanced stunts such as barrel rolls and Immelmans are accessible through button combos for experienced aficionados of the air combat genre. The game includes boss sequences that offer novel variations on its core mechanics. For example, players will battle a flotilla of submarines as Woodstock, being towed behind Snoopy's plane in a toy balsa-wood glider. Here the mechanics are those of a rail shooter, with Snoopy pulling the player along a path while the player contends with a multi-stage boss fight. Pre-rendered cut scenes advance the narrative between missions as the player returns to a "hub world" represented by Charlie Brown's neighborhood. Here the player can upgrade his plane and weapons at Pig-Pen's Shop or complete a series of tutorials at Marcie's Flight School. The music and voiceovers in these sequences recall the classic Peanuts holiday specials that have been an annual fixture of American television since 1965.
