3ta-kun

3ta-kun

NEC PC-9801 - Released - July 19, 1991

A nameless otaku (which roughly corresponds to the English geek, albeit with a focused "nerdiness" in all things anime) encounters an aggressively-looking Santa Claus, who offers to test his knowledge; if he succeeds, he can have his way with a few magically summoned beautiful girls... Santa-kun is a quiz simulation. Santa asks a question, and the player must choose the correct answer among the three available ones. The game consists of several "matches"; in the beginning of each, a fully dressed young girl is introduced. A match consists of three rounds (25 questions all together); after each round, the girl removes part of her clothing. Upon successful completion of a match, the girl is shown fully naked. The questions revolve (with a few exceptions) around video games and computer technology.

Gakuen Bomber

Gakuen Bomber

Sharp X68000 - Released - May 27, 1994

Gakuen Bomber begins with a dream; more precisely, the dream the protagonist of the game, an ordinary Japanese high-school boy, is having: that of his sister having passionate sex with... a female classmate. Since afterwards he begins to dream about spaceships and aliens, he assumes that dream had nothing to do with reality... or has it? Exploring the high school he attends, the hero makes some startling and not very unpleasant discoveries... Gakuen Bomber is set almost entirely in the high-school, and mostly consists of the protagonist wandering around and triggering event scenes (often of sexual nature) that advance the story. However, the player is given considerable freedom to explore the rather large school compounds, interacting with many on-screen objects in point-and-click fashion.

GunBlaze

Fujitsu FM Towns Marty - Released - December 16, 1994

The events of this game take place in London, in the second half of the 19th century. Mark Flint is a young private detective. One day he sees several men assault a young girl near his apartment. He saves the girl, only to discover that he has seen her face already on a wanted poster. But the girl (whose name is Jewel) explains that she is being hunted by the mysterious society of Rosenkreuz. Her father was a great scientist who knew how to make items out of pure ether; his zeppelin was attacked, and the Rosenkreuz are after the ether-made necklace Jewel is wearing. Mark, Jewel, and their friends have to find a way to defeat the Rosenkreuz and their leader, the ambitious Irene, who won't stop until the entire world is under her control... GunBlaze plays like a story-driven Japanese RPG, with the real-world setting adding some unusual gameplay elements. Most of the game takes place in urban locations (such as the city of London); instead of a world map, there is a city map with locations marked on it. Despite the fantasy elements, the game tries to keep the realistic setting without supernatural or sci-fi themes - for example, there are no magic spells or any equivalent powers. The heroes fight with guns, for which they have to buy bullets, and which require re-loading during combat. Otherwise, GunBlaze preserves traditional Japanese RPG gameplay elements such as linear plot progression, simple character development system (leveling up), random enemies, turn-based battle engine, etc. Despite the historical European setting, GunBlaze has typically Japanese manga/anime-style character design. The game has nudity and sexual content, though it can be considered softcore.

IF contains four scenarios, which are unrelated to each other and can be accessed directly from the main menu: The first scenario stars a 19-year-old young man who accidentally makes a wish and summons a cute-looking female demon, who is ready to serve his "master"... in various ways, including what you just thought. This scenario is sub-titled Triangle, and is dedicated to a high-school student who has a rather uneasy relationship with the girl he likes. One day he meets a female childhood friend, which further complicates his love life... Set in medieval (feudal) Japan, the scenario tells the story of a young man who is on his way to the capital city, to study martial arts by a famous teacher. He gets sick and has to stay in a mountain village. Soon he notices that strange things begin to happen there, and has to find a way to release a woman from a curse that was placed on her. The last scenario is set in a small village that lies deep in a forest, in a fictional country, and focuses on a young boy named Indy. He fancies the daughter of the village elder; one day she is kidnapped by strangers, and Indy swears to rescue her. All the scenarios have the gameplay of a visual novel: the player reads the vast amount of text that accompanies the pictures, choosing actions or dialogue choices from time to time. The first two scenarios feature branching story and Game Over moments; the two others develop in a linear fashion and have only one ending.

IF contains four separate scenarios, in them you make choices that can deeply impact the development of the story.

If 2

If 2

Sharp X68000 - Released - October 16, 1993

IF 2 contains three separate scenarios (as opposed to four of the previous game); they are numbered 5, 6, and 7 (continuing the count from the first IF), but have no relation story-wise either to the preceding scenarios or each other. "Scenario 5" is a rare example of "mainstream" eroge which deals with a male homosexual relationship. The adult content here is text-only; there are no graphics that depict explicit sex. The hero of the game is a young man who lives together with his boyfriend. A girl who works with him in the company seems fancy him, and the protagonist has to deal with her advances and his partner's jealousy, questioning his own orientation in progress. This scenario has a branching story line; the premise is that the hero, a college student, is desperate to find a date. The episode is dedicated only to one day of the hero's life; during this day, he must locate and convince a girl to have a date with him. Depending on the player's choices, the story develops in various different directions from there. The final, "seventh" scenario stars a female protagonist, a high-school student named Kumi. One night she dreams of her male classmate having a romantic relationship with her. Upon arriving in the school, however, she sees another girl obviously trying to seduce the man of her dreams. Will she be able to reclaim him for herself - and if so, by what means?.. The gameplay in IF 2 is similar to that of the previous game, though the branching story line concept is somewhat deeper and more complicated. There are more choices to make, and they have a more significant impact on the development on the story. Particularly the second episode is notable for being more open-ended, but also unforgiving and leading to premature endings if the player doesn't choose the right things to do and/or to say.

Fujitsu FM Towns Marty - Released - April 14, 1995

Like its predecessors in the series, if 3 contains three scenarios, which are unrelated to each other story-wise and can be played directly from the main menu: The first episode, sub-titled Will for Suicide, is indeed about that: a person who tries to commit suicide. The scenario can be played in two different ways, from the point of view of either a male or female protagonist. reasons and circumstances of the suicide can also be chosen by the player. The scenario involves supernatural forces that change the fate of the heroes; however, the specific narrative is defined by the player. This episode is called Like a Magic Woman; the heroine is a beautiful young woman, contemplating about her future career and desire for money; at that moment, she is hit by a truck. Miraculously, she survives the accident, and is granted the magic ability of shape-shifting. The final episode is entitled Eday & Magy (sic), which are the misspelled names "Eddie" and "Maggie". The setting is a fictional city in the USA called "Autumn City"; it is being governed by the powerful Chief Anderson, enjoying an era of stability and peace. But a criminal organization targets Eddie, a young half-Japanese police officer, and he receives the assignment to bring the villains to justice. The gameplay is visual novel-style; while the second and the third episodes feature few choices and the story develops more linearly (though some choices do influence the narrative as well), the first episode is more open-ended, also containing several premature endings that should be avoided.

Kusuriyubi no Kyoukashiyo

NEC PC-9801 - Released - April 5, 1996

Toshio is an eighteen-year-old young man who has attended a special school, and now has quite a bit of free time on his hands. He has been raised by his single father, and has enjoyed a careless life in a wealthy environment. Now, his thoughts are directed at his pretty ex-schoolmates. Not everything is as simple as it may seem - Toshio has to plan his moves carefully, otherwise he might fail in his amorous endeavors. Kusuriyubi no KyŨkasho is essentially a visual novel; though it offers somewhat more choices than most other games of the type, it does not feature a permanent command menu. The player is usually prompted to choose between two or more available actions for the protagonist. These decisions may trigger certain events, alter the course of the storyline, or lead to a premature end of the game.

Mahjong Fantasia

Mahjong Fantasia

NEC PC-9801 - Released - June 6, 1992

Mahjong Fantasia is, as the name implies, a mahjong game set in a medieval fantasy world. The story mode is divided between cut-scenes that advance the plot of the game, and the actual mahjong "battles". The story centers around an evil witch called Belladonna, who can only be defeated with the sacred power of the 136 mahjong stones. The protagonist is a young "mahjong warrior" Ring, who must win a mahjong tournament in order to seal Belladonna once and for all. In addition to the story mode, there are versus mode, which allows the player to choose any character to fight against in four rounds of mahjong, as well as "vs. computer" mode, which allows playing mahjong against computer AI. Both story mode and versus mode deal exclusively with mahjong parties played against young, pretty, female opponents. In both modes, they undress when defeated. The story mode features many other story-related scenes with nudity.

Mahjong Fantasia II

Mahjong Fantasia II

NEC PC-9801 - Released - August 6, 1993

Mahjong Fantasia 2 is a direct sequel to the first Mahjong Fantasia game. The story mode begins with a reminiscence of the events depicted in the first game. The hero, Ring, is back with his girlfriend Tania, but mourns the loss of the lovely elf Raspberry. He travels to the Village of Elves, where he discovers that there might be a way to resurrect Raspberry - but it involved finding seven sacred golden tablets, guarded by fearsome opponents, which must be defeated in a game of mahjong... Like its predecessor, Mahjong Fantasia 2 focuses on mahjong games, with extensive cut-scenes between them, and parts that have interaction in Japanese adventure-style, with menu-based verb commands to advance the plot. The game also has a versus mode, which allows to play mahjong against various characters from the story mode, a "vs. computer" mode, and a new training mode, which explains in detail the rules of mahjong. Just like the first game, Mahjong Fantasia 2 features an all-female opponent cast. Cut-scenes with explicit nudity appear after the mahjong victories.

Mahjong Fantasia the 3rd Stage

Mahjong Fantasia the 3rd Stage

NEC PC-9801 - Released - August 25, 1995

The third installment of the Mahjong Fantasia series is not directly related story-wise to its predecessors. In the story mode, the player assumes the role of Chris, a guard in the city of Burgund. His mission is to protect the princess at all costs, but once the city is destroyed by members of a cult known as Valms, the two of them have to flee. Chris finds out that the only way to restore his homeland is by finding a sacred ring that had been kept in secret for many generations. The gameplay of the story mode retains the formula of the previous entries, essentially being a collection of mahjong games with long cut-scenes between them. The other game modes from the previous games are present here as well: versus mode, which allows the player to play against mahjong opponents of his choice, "vs. computer" mode, and training mode.

Sharp X68000 - Released - October 27, 1995

Girls school recently started to adopt male students. There's an old urban legend about a ghost called "young lady" at school and three ghost study club members are set to investigate it. It's lesbian comedy. And it's more lesbian than a comedy. It's more or less fun through the middle, but don't expect to see any kind of story development here. Yet another bakage with emphasis on H-scenes.

Sweet Angel

Sweet Angel

Fujitsu FM Towns Marty - Released - 1992

The player takes the role of Seisa, a bald-headed photographer. He likes sneaking into a high school and taking pictures of pretty girls. But one day he was caught and beaten by a girl who didn't want to be photographed. So Seisa plotted an elaborate revenge scheme: he managed to learn a spell that allowed him to look like different girls. Naturally, being one of the girls, it becomes much easier for our heroes to earn their trust - and to seduce them! Sweet Angel differs from the majority of Japanese adventures by allowing the player to physically move in the game world (from top-down perspective). Most important conversations and seduction scenes are still viewed from the traditional first-person perspective, with menu choices for different actions.
