Commodore 64 - Released - 1990

In Acia you control a vehicle from a top-down perspective and must destroy all blocks in order to reach the exit. Most of the time you don't have direct control over your vehicle, that is if you press left, it will continue to go left until you press another direction or it hits an obstacle. Colliding with a block will destroy it, provided your vehicle and the block are the same color. To change the color of your vehicle, you have to navigate it onto specific fields. All levels contain various movable and immovable obstacles have to be avoided. To further complicate things, some levels also contain switches that open up new passages, teleporters as well two colored blocks that need two hits to be destroyed. Sometimes, destroyed blocks drop power-ups including a shield that protects your vehicle or a few seconds, a "fist" power-up that allows you destroy blocks regardless of your vehicles color and a "control" power-up that allows direct control over your vehicle for short while. Acia also features a two player mode and a level editor. Published in Game On 1990/01 / a.k.a. "Crillion IV".

Adrenalin

Adrenalin

Commodore 64 - Released - 1991

ADRENALINE. . . Your body will most certainly pour out during this game, as it requires full concentration and a quick reaction. The story of ADRENALIN is easy to tell: The year is 2042. After a chemonuclear war between communist China and capitalist Russia, the genetic material of the birds was changed by radioactivity. The mutated new generation turns out to be the true scourge of the survivors, since they have shed all fear of people and are now bloodthirsty upon them. This is all the worse when the birds - and with them all insects - have reached a shocking height. They are so big that in flight they can carry stones, which they then drop on people in order to kill them. (Different birds, different customs.) Only one person can stop this cruel goings-on, and that. . . You (= a lot of you). So you have to try to put an end to these flying mutants. A special mini-plane - a so-called combat capsule - is available to you for this purpose. However, your ammunition supply had to be limited for weight reasons. So you have to shoot your way from level to level and always try to get as many of the misguided flutter men out of the sky. But you should keep in mind that you only have 75 shots and four lives to complete your mission.Published in Magic Disk 64 1991/11, and also in Abo Disk #1.

Aircop 2000

Commodore 64 - Released - 1990

In this horizontal scrolling shooter with the screen scrolling constantly from right to left, you are the pilot of a helicopter who must shoot and avoid helicopters and balloons before attempting to destroy a base. With 6 skill levels to choose from, the game is split into three sections with the first section having you shooting and avoiding helicopters but you can only move up and down. The second section has you unable to fire and once again you can only move up and down while you avoid various types of balloons and missiles. Touching any craft or missile loses you one of five lives and when they are gone it is game over. The final section is viewed from the side with the whole section on the screen. You face a base in a cliff on the left of the screen and to destroy it you must fire missiles down three thin shafts in the cliff to destroy the power. Once all three shafts have been fired down then a gap moves up and down a wall in front of the base and you must shoot through the gap to destroy it. A helicopter keeps taking off and trying to destroy you while you fire your missiles. In between the sections is a re-fuelling section which sees you trying to place your fuel pipe into a large planes fuel pipe while in the air. Released as part of Magic Disk 64 1990/10.

Another World

Another World

Commodore 64 - Released - December 2, 1991

San Francisco 2016. A series of earthquakes has damaged several nuclear power plants, and the subsequent nuclear contamination has forced the survivors to flee underground. Their only hope to get off the continent is to use newly developed matter transporters. However, these transporters require certain types of crystals to work. Since men cannot survive on the surface, the task of collecting the crystals is assigned to a cyborg. You take control of the cyborg and must collect different types of crystals in a number of side-scrolling levels, while fighting off mutated animals. Your cyborg can jump, shoot and use smart bombs that damage everything on screen. From time to time, extras appear that replenish some of your health or improve your weapon. If your weapon is at maximum power, you can also collect additional smart bombs. The main task of each level is to collect crystals and use them in one of the teleporters that can be found at each end of a level. There are three types of crystals that are used for different purposes. Green crystal teleport you to the other end of a level. Red crystals take you to another level and blue crystals are needed to get to another continent. Usage of the crystals is rather complicated, as each crystal has a different charge, and they have to be put into the right slot of the teleporters. Not paying attention to the charge may even cause the transporter to explode. Coding: Ivo-Jürgen Herzeg Graphics: Thomas Heinrich & Michael Martin Detert SFX/Music: Thomas Detert

Commodore 64 - Released - 1990

There can difficulty in precision and this missile command type game definitely illustrates that. You control a set of 4 ships, you can drop explosive charges from your spacecraft with a very small blast radius to stop the falling enemy munitions. If you don't put them exactly in the path of the falling bombs they will not take out the target. To compound this, any enemy bomb that hits the bottom removes one of your spare ships. Run out of ships and the game is over. This game was created by Axel Teichmann and published in Game On 1990/03 in German and through newsstand and subscription sales and in Italy in both Hit Parade C64 n.47 (luglio/agosto 1990) and Special Program n.65 (maggio 1990) under the name Shield.

Arc Doors

Arc Doors

Commodore 64 - Released - 1994

Arc Doors is an action game with some puzzle elements. The player controls a prince who was turned into a frog by an evil wizard, and thrown into a marsh filled with dangers. On each of the 50 levels the player must find the key and reach the exit. The game is shown in a top-down perspective, with the player able to move from tile to tile. As the wizard had taken away the prince's ability to swim, falling into water ends with immediate death. Getting across the water often requires leaping across lily pads, which regularly sink and resurface in a synchronized pattern. The marsh is populated by a variety of creatures with different behavior patterns, most of which kill the player instantly upon contact. The monsters can be killed by shooting at them. However, the prince has a limited amount of energy, which is depleted each time the player moves or shoots. Running out of energy results in death, but powerups can be found to replenish it. The player can also come across heart pickups which give a bonus life. Published in Game On 1994/05.

Arscet

Arscet

Commodore 64 - Released - 1990

ARSCET is the computer version of the well-known and popular game "Kniffel". Your C64 takes over all the annoying administrative tasks including. Rolling the dice, high-score list and keeping the points account over several rounds, so that up to half a dozen players can devote themselves entirely to the trick. The game is controlled by a joystick in port # 2. As many throws are made per game as there are lines on the board. The player whose turn it is is indicated by an arrow pointing at his column in the game board (just like the winner at the end of the game!). You have three attempts per throw. Use the joystick to select the cubes that you want to keep (red color) and confirm your entry by selecting the "end symbol" (ed). Try to fill in all fields with the highest possible score. After each throw you can choose a free field, except for those that are intended for accounting. 1 to 6: As many dice as possible must show the corresponding number. Double: 3 or 4 of the same good numbers are rolled are counted (the Total score!). Streets: There have to be 4 or 5 successive Au- numbers are rolled the. Full House: It has to be a 2 and a 3 double dice are rolled the. Kniffel: There must be 5 identical numbers are rolled the. Opportunity: All points count. If a player has achieved at least 63 points in lines 1 to 6, he will receive 35 bonus points at the end. The high-score list is constantly updated during the game and saved on disk. Have fun! Published in Magic Disk 64 1990/05.

Artax

Artax

Commodore 64 - Released - 1989

Artax is a horizontal scrolling shooter developed by Maurice and Raymond Penders and published in Magic Disk 64 1989/04. A new space game is currently very popular with the entire editorial team: "Artax" has been blocking all computers in our rooms for days. Only MANIAC-FRED is quite disappointed with this game and annoys us all the time with sentences like "Much too lax, the game" or "Where are the screams?" . Why does a "shooting specialist" like Fred not like a "shooting game" like "Artax"? Very easily: "Artax" is a well presented skill game that is about (much) more than just "banging around". In addition, we suspect that our new acquisition is just a little too difficult for our "Redaktionskaspar", but he does not want to or cannot admit it. . . "Artax" should already inspire you right from the start: A nicely arranged intro "whisks you away" to the distant galaxy where a hot battle is waiting for your little spaceship. "Of course", you will surely say now, "We know that" . "Bombastic intro, great cover picture, and the actual game is once again as lean as a gnawed bone..." . Unfortunately we have to disappoint you here, because "Artax" does what the introduction promises. What is "Artax" about? Unfortunately we don't have a story in stock; such a would also be inappropriate. You fly with your spaceship along a long tunnel and have to try to avoid the enemies approaching in the convoy or to let them burn up in the fire of your laser cannons. Should the latter happen, please avoid directing your spaceship into the explosion nebula. . . As soon as you have completely destroyed an approaching line of enemies you will be rewarded with an additional laser (example: you destroy a complete convoy of enemies with one laser, and as a "reward" you can defy the next attack with two lasers...). But do not rely too much on your fire abilities: It is wiser to avoid some convoys than to take them under fire and thus "die" early. Laser barriers await you at irregular intervals in the middle of the tunnel, through which you cannot always pass. Just wait for a suitable opportunity, but always expect a sudden attack from behind. . . ! So if you feel like doing some "joystick exercise" again (or just want to play a good game), "Artax" is made for it!

Commodore 64 - Released - 1990

In Baby Blues the player controls a crosshair and must use it to protect the baby from wildlife such as eagles, spiders, and worms; all the while popping balloons that travel across the screen. When all balloons are popped, the game proceeds to the next level with the difficulty and the number of balloons increased. When wildlife comes in contact with the baby, some milk is lost. The game ends when the player runs out of milk or ammo. The original 1990 version required the use of the Light Phaser gun (or a similar light gun), which this game came with on the compilation tape included in the purchase of the gun. However IN 1994, A joystick hack was made and published by German company CP Verlag in Game On 1994/12.

Ball

Ball

Commodore 64 - Released - 1990

The aim of this game is to steer a ball against the generic wall and fend it off if necessary. Sounds like the umpteenth variant of Breakout, but it is not. In order not to let the player fall asleep, the program has a few nasty tricks in store. Another ball floats vertically up and down in the middle of the screen. If the cue ball touches the said ball, our peaceful cue ball becomes a mean contemporary whose sole aim is apparently to send the player onto the boards. Among other things, life can be deducted if the player's ball leaves the field, penalty points can be distributed, etc. If the counter above the score display shows 3, the game is over (mostly for the player...) The only chance is to be faster and more skillful than the computer in order to stay afloat. With a little practice, you too can outsmart the computer. A tip at the end: By pressing the fire button, the club can be moved faster - often very helpful for reaching the ball. This pong\breakout style game was released as part of the Magic Disk 64 1990/02.

Ballfever

Ballfever

Commodore 64 - Released - December 6, 1993

So far, the c64 has largely been spared the dinosaur fever. Ball-Fever is now seizing the opportunity and is spreading at breakneck speed on all bread boxes in Germany. This game is an addiction! The gameplay is very simple. You control a small ball that, thanks to its elastic properties, has the ability to develop enormous bounce from standing. You have to guide the cute ball through numerous levels and protect it from all kinds of monsters. Slimy snails and jumping monsters have to be avoided. The highlight of this game: It is played on two levels. For example, if you have bitten yourself above the surface of the earth, you can try to pave your way underground. Although the difficulty level is quite low at the beginning, you should be careful not to underestimate the game. It is all too easy to maneuver yourself into a hopeless situation. Have fun!Published in Magic Disk 64 1993/12.

Commodore 64 - Released - 1995

The aim of BLACK IT! is to discolor all the stones on the playing field so that in the end none are left. The stones can have different colors, which - as can be seen on the right edge of the picture - have different priorities. If the ball is now moved over a stone, it will be discolored according to the above-mentioned pattern and finally disappear completely. When all the stones are discolored, all you have to do is direct the ball onto a black field and you are in the next level. If you enter a black field and there are still stones left, you lose one of your five lives. In addition, time is on the player's neck. If you have mastered all 50 levels or just earned enough points, you can immortalize yourself with a clean high score. The game is controlled by a joystick in port 2. All levels are solvable, even if this may seem a bit difficult at times. Good luck puzzling! Published in Magic Disk 64 1995/06.

Bubble Mania

Bubble Mania

Commodore 64 - Released - November 7, 1994

A not-too-frustrating platform collect-em-up. "Soap bubbles determine our lives. Whether in the wonderfully relaxing bathroom, in all our dreams or in computer games, you can find them everywhere. Bubble Mania is a tricky jump & run that requires a bit of clever thinking. You control a little imp who wants to get all gems of the country into his possession out of greed. This smart kleptomaniac is controlled with the joystick in port # 2. The highlight of this game is that you cannot fall into the abyss. However, since our hero cannot jump very far, and the platforms on which the clunkers are located are relatively far apart, you have to do a little trick. Soap bubbles are constantly rising from the abyss, which will carry you for a while - at least until they burst on the ceiling. You can also cover longer distances by letting yourself be carried by the soap bubbles. Of course, this includes a touch of dexterity and a little tactical approach. You can fall three times into the deep abyss before you have to start all over again." Publshed in Magic Disk 64 1994/10.

At least four blocks of the same color have to be lined up vertically, horizontally or diagonally in order to clear them. The more stones are cleared at once, the higher the score. A level ends after a set number of stones (which increases with every level) has been dropped. Every 10,000 points the speed of the stones increases. The game is a very basic platformer with rather weird controls. You can only shoot or jump while walking. Moreover, you keep walking in one direction until you press the joystick down, which feels very odd in the beginning and makes the game quite hard to play. Clystron was originally released for the C64 and later ported to the Commodore Amiga. Especially the C64 version was lauded for its great music and graphics.

Commodore 64 - Released - January 2, 1995

A puzzle game created by The Creators (represented by Helfried Peyrl who did the coding, Roland Ottensamer on graphics, and Antti Hannula for the music) and published in Magic Disk 64 1995/01. The aim of the game is to clear all colorful, moving pieces from the playing field. To do this, you simply have to make the stones disappear by pushing the same stones horizontally or vertically (sideways) together. With the joystick in Port II you control the blinking cursor, which you can point to the desired stones in order to move them. By pressing the joystick button and simultaneously moving the joystick to the left or right, the stone under the cursor can be moved to the left or right. It is not possible to move the stones vertically. In addition, gravity acts on the pieces, and pieces with a free space below them fall down until they hit another piece. It is of course also possible to move a piece if there are other pieces above it. The pieces only disappear when the pieces in question are in a rest position. If there are only 3 pieces left of a type of stone, the stones must be arranged and shifted so skilfully that they touch each other at the same time and thus all three disappear. The player has 3 attempts and a limited time limit.

Conquest for the Crown

Conquest for the Crown

Commodore 64 - Released - 1988

A war strategy game published in Magic Disk 64 1988/12. A great strategy game for anyone who has had a lot of fun with games like this in the past. As is often the case with good games, the game is in English, which some of you may not be particularly enthusiastic about. But since the texts are limited and it is not a text adventure, you quickly got used to the game and the English is no longer important. To make it easier to understand, here are the brief instructions:: It is a battle simulation in which the aim is to conquer a continent that has so far been made up of many small provinces. Up to eight players can play against each other. Everyone has his army and is trying to conquer the whole continent by invading the other provinces. In addition, there are troop remnants from the former king of the continent, which can be either friendly or hostile to the other player. But first you have to create your own continent. To do this, you connect individual hexagons on the playing field with the 'cursor', a sword. Of course, it is also possible to delegate this task to the computer. A continent must consist of at least 10 provinces. Now it is the turn of the royal troops to be recruited. These, as mentioned, can be friendly, which means they'll join you and add to your troop numbers. But you can also choose to have the royal troops hostile and defend themselves against you. In addition, this condition can be increased by making them more aggressive. Then they invade the provinces you have already occupied. If you don't have enough enemies yet, you can also call a brother of the king onto the field, who is on a crusade at the start of the game, but who comes later to stand by the royal troops. Then you can move your own troops to another province and finally recruit new soldiers. However, each new soldier costs 1 gold piece. For 20 gold pieces you can also build towers to improve the defense situation. In order to collect more taxes it is also possible to build new villages. However, that costs four gold pieces at first. After each round it is the turn of the royal troops, the King 's Men. They behave as you have determined beforehand.

Since Susi has no weapons to defend herself against the nasty figures, she has to withdraw without further ado and jump over them. The numerous monsters see through this quickly and for this reason attack in various formations that are very difficult to penetrate. The joystick in port # 2 is used to play. Joystick left / right lets Susi run in the appropriate direction and a well-dosed upward pressure lets her jump into the air. The height can be set individually by pressing the top for a short or long time. Evaluate in the upper line of the screen the current score, the remaining time and number of lives displayed. Cut-In

Cut-In

Commodore 64 - Released - 1991

Published in Magic Disk 64 1991/04. After a space shuttle glides across the screen right at the start of the game - more precisely, while it is loading - it should be clear what kind of game it is: a space adventure, and a rather action-packed one. As with most other games in this genre, at CUT IN you dash through the galaxies in a fast space car to bring fame and glory, i.e. highscore, to your home get-together. The environment is as usual: you fly from left to right and the background scrolls past you from right to left. In this game, it consists of futuristic halls, containers, tanks, etc., which probably belong to a huge spaceship complex. Unfortunately, the spaceship has no turning ability, so the direction of flight is clearly predetermined. Every few seconds you are attacked by soap bubble-like structures, which firstly always appear in packs and secondly rob you of valuable energy when touched; at the start of the game you have 99 energy cells. These will be destroyed depending on the intensity of the enemy touch. The only antidotes are avoiding or shooting down the slimy bullets. For a "game to abreact" (original sound), your spaceship has frustratingly little firepower; the shot frequency is somewhat low. You also face danger from the spaceship itself. As soon as the speedster touches parts of the facility or superstructure, the important energy cells are destroyed as well as in the event of enemy contact. Unfortunately, touching the spaceship usually takes longer than you would like. But be comforted: You only lose energy until you are dead! The real highlight of the program, however, is the control of your vehicle. A little clumsy at first glance, it quite simulates the weightlessness of space in a very convincing way, because the space car doesn't turn in the desired direction when the joystick is counter-steered. The exact control needs to be mastered! After each more or less successful game round you get the opportunity to register yourself in the highscore list.

CyberBlocks

CyberBlocks

Commodore 64 - Released - 1994

In this puzzle game, the player is presented with the game field on which a specific region is marked. From the top Tetris-like blocks are randomly falling down (arrows indicate the place where they fall). The shape and texture of the block that is supposed to fall down is presented in the top right window. The aim of the player is to arrange fallen blocks in the Cyberblocks shape so they can be destroyed. If they are destroyed in a specific region, the picture behind is uncovered and stage can be completed. Unlike "Tetris", the player does not control the falling blocks but only those that are on the ground - moving them left or right to make space for new blocks. If two blocks of the same texture touch themselves, they will be inseparately linked - thus the block to move will be bigger. The game can be over when the player is out of Cyberblocks, or the tower with blocks is too high and they can not be placed in the well. Before each stage, the player can choose a difficulty level among two different specific region shapes. Completion of the more difficult one will grant you a bigger bonus. Released in Magic Disk 64 1994/02.

Cygnus

Cygnus

Commodore 64 - Released - 1991

In Cygnus you have to find in each level 10 Magic Pots then try to reach the exit before the time limit has ended. Published in Magic Disk 64 1991/05. The idea of the game is to use a ball to collect ten pots that are in a kind of cave. The ball is of course controlled with the joystick - if you press it to the right, it rolls in the desired direction, it works the same with the left; if you push the joystick forward, the ball bounces. This is important because the cave is not flat and level, but rather rugged and impassable. The screen shows the section of the cave that you are currently in. The pots are on different levels, on which the player has to hop with his ball. If he succeeds, he can take the pot there with him if necessary. But if he jumps next to it and the ball falls into the depths, one of the five (ball) lives that he has at the beginning is withdrawn from him. But do not worry, with small heights you do not have to give the spoon (the ball) in a humane way, it only becomes critical at great heights. Dangerously there are villainous villain balls on the large plateaus, who also try to kill your ball. It's best to just jump over them. Lanterns also bring some light into the dark cave from time to time, but they are more likely to be added to the decorative accessories. From some plateaus, arrow-like "ray bands" go up or down. These are elevators that safely transport you in the desired direction. In order not to make the level gain too easy, the programmer Fabian Libeau has set a time limit within which the pots must be collected and the saving exit of the level must be found. This limit is exactly six minutes. With every second that has passed, your score increases by one, with every pot you get awarded one hundred points.

Cylogic

Cylogic

Commodore 64 - Released - 1991

A brain\puzzle game by Hakan Akbiyik and published in Magic Disk 64 1991/04, Game On GE 1993/2, Abo Disk #3. In the game you need to recreate the scene found in the right pane in yours. Get them in the correct order of will need to do it again. Cylogic is an immensely captivating game of skill and puzzles in which, in addition to a steady hand, a quick talent for combination is required. Cylogic is divided into two separate, completely independent play areas, which are appropriately titled Game 1 and Game 2 and which I will introduce one after the other in the following. Incidentally, both areas can be conveniently selected using a joystick. So let's start with Game 1. At first glance, there are certain parallels to the arcade hit "Tetris". As with Tetris, the screen in Cylogic is split into two parts and you have to move the pieces that fall down from the top of the screen to the correct place. With Cylogic, however, the player does not have to compete against a teammate or an imaginary computer opponent, but instead has to recreate a predefined arrangement of stones. More on that now. As already mentioned, the screen is divided vertically into two halves - with the right half showing the stone arrangement to be reproduced, which must then be reproduced in great detail on the left half of the screen. The difficulty now is to put the stones, which are meanwhile falling fairly quickly, into their place before they hit anywhere else. If that happens, one of five lives is withdrawn from the player. The stones do not necessarily have to hit the ground - it is sufficient to let them land on some horizontal surface (ledge, etc.). As expected, the stones are controlled by a joystick. As soon as the player has completed the stone arrangement, the next level is reloaded in no time at all. So much for the NORMAL level - at the EXTRA level, the player can open up the number pieces that are falling in the usual manner according to a pattern that is again given on the right-hand side of the screen. The control, which reacts extremely sensitively to joystick movements, is particularly noticeable here. In order not to die the quick screen death, the control of the stones has to be very precise and calm - but here, too, practice makes perfect. In the case of particularly shaky contemporaries, in the long run, a certain degree of disgust with playing is likely to set in; however, they can also be helped. The programmer Hakan Akbijik has given the game an editor mode.

Dark Caves is a H.E.R.O. clone in which the you control a treasure hunter searching for treasure under the surface of the earth. When navigating through the caves, you must avoid contact with enemies, spikes and other deadly objects. The beam weapon can be used to dispatch enemies, while bombs are used to destroy walls. If you have run out of bombs, you can also use the beam weapon to destroy walls, which uses up a lot of energy. In the final level, a Tetris-inspired puzzle has to be solved. However, instead of clearing lines, the goal in this case is to fill up the lower part of the screen without leaving a gap. Initially released in Magic Disk 64 1994/04.
